What it actually means is, if the children commit the sins or iniquity of the father, than God shall punish them as he did their fathers, unto the third or fourth generation. God is very patient and is not willing that any should perish. However if Gods children commit the sins of their fathers and do not repent, they shall receive the punishment their fathers received. Jesus excercises the evil spirit from the possessed man. The Pharisees who are the high religous officials, claim that Christ performed the excorcism by the power of the devil. The Pharisees did not want to beleive that Jesus is the Son of God. Christ not only removed the evil spirit but healed him so he could see and hear but also healed his spiritual eyes and ears. This man once possessed now knows the good news and who Christ is. When the Pharisees stated that Jesus healed him because he himself was evil, Christ explained that if he was evil and removed an evil spirit. a house of evil wouldnt stand nor last long. If you come from evil you wouldnt remove an evil spirit but rather try to possess more people. Thats why Christ said the house would be divided. If Christ, being the Son of God went around removing the Spirit of God from every believer, than the house of God would eventually be gone.
