There is no town by the name of Kashmir!Long Answer: The state of Jammu and Kashmir consist of three geographical regions Jammu,the Kashmir valley and Ladakh. All the three regions are having a whole geography of its own and consist of number of towns. The state consists of two administrative divisions namely Jammu and Kashmir divisions.There is a city by the name of Jammu which is the winter capital of the state. However there is no city or town by the name of Kashmir. Kashmir is the name of one of the two administrative divisions. Srinagar, a city in Kashmir Division, is the summer capital of the state.The other towns​ of Jammu division are Kathua, Udhampur, Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi etc. Whereas the other known cities of Kashmir valley include Anantnag, Baramulla, Ganderbal,Bandipora, Sopore, Budgam etc.The Ladakh region is the 3rd geographical region of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the largest region of the state in terms of area,like Jammu region and the Kashmir valley. Ladakh is not a city or town itself. There are numerous theories as to where the name “Kitai-gorod” originated, but it probably had nothing to do with China.For those who do not read Russian, the word “Kitai” in Russian means China, and the word “gorod” means city or town.
