Dominion sued Sidney Powell for defamation. Will she be allowed 'discovery' if this goes to trial?

Of course. It will not go well. And by the way, the lawyer handling this for Dominion is Thomas A. Clare of Clare Locke, one of the top defamation firms in the country (see Thomas A. Clare, P.C. | Clare Locke LLP).You know who Sidney Powell has?L. Lin Wood, the batshit crazy Trump lawyer who literally misspelled a one-sentence court submission.Powell is so far beyond fucked that you don’t even want to think about it.My prediction is that the first thing we are going to see is an immediate court action by her insurer, who will argue that because she breached professional ethics she is in violation of her insurance covenants and that the insurer is not liable. I believe that they will win handily. At that point it will be difficult (or perhaps impossible) for her to practice law, since you generally cannot practice law without insurance. She will also have no insurance coverage to pay for the current suit. She will quickly be broke and will be truly twisting in the wind.To address the actual question, just the discovery process could cost her millions of dollars in legal fees and incidentals.I expect that following that realization, she will probably offer the plaintiffs a deal in exchange for her full and frank testimony against Giuliani and Trump(s), who are the real big fish here. Even Powell will realize that this is her only way out.BTW this article is an excellent and in-depth ovieview: Dominion Voting Systems files $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit against pro-Trump election attorney Sidney Powell

What is the difference between morality and ethics?

Why should professional ethics override morality and decrease the importance of morality? In my experience ethics are morality codified. For instance:A psychologist will not have an intimate relationship with a client until six months after the professional relationship is terminated. The psychologist cannot lie to a patient for the good of the psychologist. If a psychologist is presented with a client who is making bodily harm threats to another individual or group and the psychologist feels the threats are warranted, he/she is required to report the threats to the proper authorizes and in many cases, to the person or persons the threat is being aimed at. Ethics of PsychologyAs an electrician's ethics are simpler and more staightforward. For instance:All work is done according to the prevailing codes.Have permits for all jobs.Charge only for work performed.Inform the customer of all hazardous situations. Not performing work while intoxicated.Carrying insurance.Having a license. My personal ethics include:Telling the customer the truth in all cases.Honoring my bid even if I am losing money.Take no shortcuts.Admit to all mistakes.Do not cheat the customer even if they are cheating me. (There are some slimy types out there, it is important to not join them in the tarpit). My company motto:We will show up when we said we will show upWe will do what we said we would doWe will charge what we said we would chargeWe will leave the workplace cleanAll these examples are also moral guidelines.

Does the black sheep of the family tend to grow into the most successful person?

I am the black sheep of my family. I am the second of four children, three girls and one boy. My brother was the youngest. I was always extremely shy and sensitive. For some reason, I was the female child who was the most physically and verbally “disciplined”. My brother was also physically disciplined. But being the only boy, he was also put on a pedestal. When my parent’s divorced, when I was just starting college, the family dynamic became more exacerbated. My father sold the house we grew up in. My older sister had her own family, my younger sister went to live with her, my brother went with my mother, and I was sort of thrust out into the world, on my own. I was left to figure out how to register for courses, figure out a major and finance the expenses with loans and financial aid. I did it with the help of friends and college advisers. I got rides to my graveyard-shift-job waitressing, with college roommates. Every chance I got in between semesters, I would spend in places away from what was left of my “home” and family. After college, I moved away and worked jobs in both corporate America and the restaurant/hospitality business. Sometimes at the same time, to make ends meet. I always had a strong work ethic and even though new jobs and new coworkers made me uncomfortable, I pushed and pushed myself to do my best and reach for more. A few years after college, I was hit by a drunk driver and my car totaled. Even though I paid for my car, my mother forged my name to the insurance check and cashed it. I was working a full-time job and had no transportation to get there. I definitely used alcohol and drugs at times, to numb the hurt. But I just kept pushing forward. I moved to Florida, after meeting my boyfriend at my best friend’s wedding. I worked at a restaurant and spring training camp for the Orioles, until I got an opportunity in IT with Arthur Andersen.Through all of this, each member of my family has come in and out of my life. I have never gone back to my hometown, and they have never left. They are indifferent towards me at times, and other times cruel. I tried and tried to show them my love, sometimes by buying things for them. It never mattered. I plugged away at my career in IT, working through some pretty awful situations. The negativity and heartbreak just pushed me to do more.Today, I don’t know that anyone in my family knows what I do for a living. I didn’t have children because I was afraid I would be a horrible parent, based on my upbringing. Despite all of the trauma of my family, I have become quite successful. I earn more than any of my siblings, am renovating a 170-year-old farmhouse and l live in yet another State, all on my own. I’ve been in therapy for 25-years and that has helped me realize, to let go of things I cannot control, and that the dynamic will most likely not change. But I was brave enough to leave and find my own way in the world. Their rejection, indifference and at times abuse of me drove me through to become the best person I can be; personally and professionally. I still treat people as I want to be treated. My advice to anyone who is treated terribly by their family; don’t let it destroy you. Let it drive you to be the best version of yourself you can be.
