Parking Lot Policy: Fill & Download for Free

I don't remember the guy's name but there was this one guy that had a camper parked in the parking lot near Crittenden and the story was that he slept in the camper and then did everything else in the office. Technically, you weren't supposed to live at the office, but people got around that by living in their cars in the parking lot of the office or the Shoreline parking lot.Anyway, the guy lived in the camper for 2-3 years. Showered at the gym. Did his laundry on campus. Ate every meal on campus he could. After the 2-3 years, he had saved up enough money to buy a house. It was simply brilliant!

Question: “Can I leave my car at Walmart for a month?”Not if you want to find your car in one piece, or find your car at all, at the end of the month.Some Walmart stores allow overnight parking for RV’s. Your car probably does not qualify as an RV.Walmart overnight RV parking is for limited stays only. That may only be a day. At most it will be two nights.Walmart parking is at the discretion of the store manager. You have to ask and receive permission. It would not be granted for a long term stay.In an attempt to avoid legal liability for activity that might occur in its parking lots, except in the area immediately in front of its stores, many Walmart stores as a matter of policy do not light or patrol their parking lots.Walmart parking lots are patrolled by criminals who are on the lookout for unlocked or easily broken into cars that might contain valuables. They would certainly notice any car that is not moved for more than a couple of days.A car parked for weeks could easily be considered abandoned by some people who would not hesitate to strip it for parts. You would then have to ransom it from some guy with a lot of tats and a jail record (as well as a junk yard dog) at a place like this:Bring lots of cash.In short, leaving your car in a Walmart parking lot for a month is NOT a good idea.

This is an official policy put out by Wal-Mart, not KMart, and there are some important caveats.Wal-Mart allows people who are TRAVELING to use the far outer edges of their super Wal-Mart parking lots. You can park your car, truck or RV in the lot for the night.The marketing objective is to get people in RVs to stop and purchase supplies during long road trips.People in smaller vehicles who are also on long road trips often catch a few hours of sleep, just to avoid an accident, before using the Wal-Mart bathroom and buying a meal for the road (again, supplies) .While homeless people use the parking lots, it's extremely important to pass as a vacationing traveler or…at least…stay for only one night and keep a really low profile.Any large company that maintains this policy will have people arrested, towed away and/or thrown out if they park in the lot for an extended period of time.In short, it's not homeless assistance, it's tourist marketing.EDIT: The comments have made a few good points:Businesses must adhere to local laws about overnight camping.Managers of some branches are more lenient than others about the length of time people can stay.Wal-Marts located in high crime areas are more likely to forbid overnight parking.When a manager wants someone to leave, they will usually send store security to tell the vehicle owner it's time to move on before calling the police. Sometimes they call the police without giving a warning (e.g.: in high crime areas) .As a general rule, when I'm traveling across country i make a habit of checking the outer edges of the parking lot. If a collection of RVs, vans, campers, etc are parked there, then it's safe to park your vehicle in the same area for the night. If not, then it might be prudent to ask permission first.
