depend on how extinction happens, for humans and other species.. complex question, with some fairly obvious initial corrective changes of direction,, but perhaps the most obvious factor we all must face, and all depend on, is the ‘thin blue line’ earths atmosphere, seen from space, which protects us from solar radiations, provides the air we breath, and regulates temperatures which effect everything including oceans,, which being made of water, will expand or contract according to small variations in temperature..‘climate change’ is the idea generally used for realities which result in ongoing increases in temperature of our atmosphere, and oceans, thus resulting in variations in warm global ocean currents which diectly influence and change weather events..eg, a major current ending or circulating in the bay near florida will create damaging weather events with only small elevations in temp, but which have real effects when weather events cross over land.. this is one basic example of changing weather due to existing small rises in ocean and current temp.. continuing rises in ocean current temp will continue creating damaging weather events..slight sea temp increases for oceans miles deep covering the entire planet, expand the water slightly, but for a water mass this size,, means higher sea levels, which, must continue to rise, as temp continues to rise.. so if you live on an island about sea level, better make real plans for where you will go when your country is under water..rising levels also means greater impact including erosion of coastlines, thus of any buildings close to the shoreline,, some more than others, well above sea level but subject to erosion of the land they are built on.. undermining everything above..this is just one example, anyone can check, and which is happening now, today..similarly, earths storage of fresh water is in miles deep ice sheets, covering arctic and antarctic poles and related areas, in glaciers and glacier feeding mountain ice etc,, which is under direct damage dur to rising temp which causes ice to melt…the glaciers are melting.. check out glacier park usa glaciers, only an easy example of an overall massive reality effecting earths stored fresh water.. arctic ice sheets are melting,, which effectively spells the end coming for polar bears, evolved to hunt seals on solid sheet ice.. as the ice breaks up, their only prey becomes unavailable..who cares about polar bears,, but this is just a signal to us of real, serious, changes..earth from atmosphere to oceans and all life everywhere is part of an interrelated system,, to which life has evolved, including mass extinctions relative to climate changes, ice ages etc.. these events are know realities to experts in their fields, yet todays destruction of our atmosphere, ozone layer etc, are not natural events, rather man made realities.. there are unprecedented amounts of greenhouse gasses being pumped into our atmosphere all over the planet,, by human decision..young protesters sign - ‘you will die of old age, we will die of climate change’that sums up one element of todays and tomorrows realities,, decisions are made by politicians, some must be fairly normal humans, but enough are psychopaths, not mad killers,, but those unable to feel empathy for others.. these people attain high positions of power, decisionmaking, due to being able to make ‘hard’ decisions..if you are a military commander, you must be able to sacrifice many young lives as part of the battle chessboard,, similarly if sentencing someone with a family etc, to long prison sentences, or a company director ruining employees lives, destroying viable companies etc, for other profit motives.. and so on.. whether a learned ‘skill’ or inate, the psychopath also tends to gravitate to positions of political power..here is just a longer view, realities including of decisionmaking, or not, relative to climate change and related serious earth changing effects.. here [aust] someone asked a politician about ‘why dont you shut down the coal industry’ [in that area] reply; 75,000 jobs. fullstop..75,000 votes is another way of expressing the same reason or excuse..australian politicians and decisionmakers are no worse generally than any others,, they are what they are.. the systems supporting them, are what they are..so i think humans will most likely avoid extinction.. there is active planning for mars colonies of humans.. we have 7.8 billion humans on earth, so from the point of view of a psychopath, or ‘normal’ others, we have plenty to spare.. for those who see whites,, or blacks,, or asians as expendable, say, its even easier to see a path ahead,, without all those others…as an older person, im living life by the moment,, the extended moment,, yet i do fear for my little granddaughter and those yet to take first breath..
