PDF Editor FAQ

Why is the Trump administration trying to discredit Dr. Fauci as he disagrees with President Donald Trump on pandemic?

Hello! The number one reason is this one: A poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College last month found a wide disparity in trust in Fauci and Trump. The poll found 67% of American voters trusted the doctor for accurate information about the coronavirus, while just 26% felt the same about the president. White House Moves To Discredit Fauci Amid Bleak Warnings Over Coronavirus SurgeCourtesy of the wonderful Dianne Hughes. And:President Trump’s advisers undercut the U.S.’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, over the weekend, anonymously providing details to news outlets about statements he had made early in the coronavirus outbreak that they said were inaccurate https://t.co/xKocHp7tCD— The New York Times (@nytimes) July 13, 2020This is what we call putting out opposition research on Dr. Fauci as if he were a political opponent to discredit him so they can ignore scientific guidelines and data and push forward with opening schools. Which is reason number two. Trump desperately wants schools to reopen because he thinks that will help him get re-elected.The White House agitporn propaganda machine will do everything to discredit science and Fauci because the facts demonstrate their incompetencies. And Dr. Fauci made mistakes they say huh? Just look at what Trump said about the coronavirus over the past 6 months:And who can ever forget this doozy:The President inquires about injecting disinfectant? pic.twitter.com/75kGQkD0h7— Acyn Torabi (@Acyn) April 23, 2020My IQ immediately dropped watching that…So am I the only one who would trust a rambling drunken statement from Dr. Fauci after he'd been on an 8-day bender more than a sworn affidavit from the entire Trump team?Political journalist for the National Observer, Caroline Orr, put it best:Dr. Fauci is among the world’s leading infectious disease specialists. He's been the director of NIAID since 1984 and he’s advised every president since Ronald Reagan. He’s exactly the type of devoted, career government employee that Trump insiders have smeared as “disloyal” for 3+ years. So Dr. Fauci is (rightly) getting a lot of credit for his role in America’s covid-19 response. He is not just an expert, but an experienced and highly respected leader who helped us through previous outbreaks including the AIDS crisis, Zika virus, Ebola, and now coronavirus.Dr. Fauci is the “star” of the coronavirus response team. And he should be — he’s the one Americans should be listening to and looking to. But that’s a problem for a narcissist like Trump. He can’t deal with someone outshining him and getting the praise that he thinks *he* deserves. The first signs of a budding smear campaign targeting Dr. Fauci started almost from the beginning, but he has done a good job of defusing much of it publicly. But it never went away, and it’s about to become something that threatens his job, at the worst possible time. We can’t lose Fauci. In one version of the smear campaign, Trump insiders portray Dr. Fauci as an Obama holdover or “deep state”-aligned liberal elitist who is trying to use covid-19 to wreck the economy (via closures, stay-at-home orders) in order to ruin Trump’s chances of re-election.In another related smear campaign, Fauci is presented (internally to Trump and among right-wing figures) as disloyal for correcting Trump and for speaking honestly to the “fake news media”. They also say he’s consulting with anti-Trump liberal scientists who can’t be trusted. As they go after Dr. Fauci, call it for what it is: A politically-motivated smear campaign aimed at ousting or sidelining the leading infectious disease expert in the country during the worst pandemic of our lifetime — all because he’s more loyal to science and medicine than Trump. And to the media: Please be aware of this smear campaign so you don’t become part of it. Be extremely thoughtful with your questions (focus on facts) and don’t use soundclips of Dr. Fauci to make it seem like he’s attacking Trump when he’s not. This isn’t the time for that. Please. And to Trump-friendly media: I know there are still people at Fox News with a conscience. If you’re one of them, now is the time to show it. Don’t let your network be used as the vehicle for a smear campaign that will derail our coronavirus response and kill countless more people than it already has… Caroline Orr (@RVAwonk) | TwitterThere has been a 30-year war against experts like Dr. Fauci by conservative media. They have been successful: the GOP base is disinclined to believe anything experts say that goes against the party line. Just to give you an idea about the scumbaggery they promote:Or what about this one? This picture is real but it’s not taken in China. Both Obama and Fauci were visiting the National Institutes of Health in 2014 along with then-Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia Burwell., and NOT Melinda Gates! They are listening to Dr. Nancy Sullivan, chief of the Biodefense Research Section of The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Photo does not show Obama at a lab in Wuhan, China, in 2015I rest my case…

What made you change your lifestyle?

I decided to change my stream of subjects after taking 12th board exams. The subjects I had in my highers were- Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Informatics Practices, and English. Before my 12th board exams, in December, my life was turned upside down when I lost my father. It was such a low point in my life that I became depressed. I somehow managed to take the board exams, but only to experience such a darkness that I had never felt in my life before. I no longer wanted to pursue my career in the field I had earlier wanted to, because it did not feel right. (I had wanted to prepare for IAS).All I wanted was to be with my father or bring him back to the place he belonged.I couldn't imagine that there would no more be patients sitting in the waiting area and there wouldn't be any sounds of my father's laughter coming from that room. That was the time I developed an immense desire to be a doctor. I used to imagine myself sitting at my father's place, wearing a stethoscope just like him. I wanted everything to be like it was before! But alas! I didn't have BIOLOGY as my higher secondary subject, which meant that I was not eligible to appear for the pre-medical test to enter medical college.“So what!,” my mom said. “If you want to do this, even now, I'm with you”.I promised myself even if it required me to repeat 11th and 12th grade again with biology as a subject, I would do that. But the only thing I could not see myself doing was something other than being a doctor. Now I had decided what I wanted to become in my life. A doctor.I searched and inquired everywhere about how I could become eligible for taking the PMT ( Pre Medical Test, now called the NEET-UG). I contacted several career counselors. I didn't sleep for nights along with my mother while searching for authentic information regarding this. After coming across so many disappointments and some rays of hope, I came to know about NIOS (the National Institute of Open Schooling). This board of education allows one to repeat one subject (like biology in my case, as I had already passed my 12th with Physics and Chemistry through CBSE) so that I could meet the eligibility criteria for entering a med school. After getting my 12th board results, I enrolled myself in a coaching institute in June of 2011 and decided to spend a year preparing for the PMT. Biology wasn't an alien subject to me as there were quite a lot of people who were doctors in my family, but it was a challenge to learn 11th and 12th grade Biology in one year, along with Physics and Chemistry, preparing for a competitive exam. Also, it was my first ever time away from home and dad. It was just five months back that I had lost everything in my life and now I was struggling in a whole new place with totally different people.I was extremely home-sick. I always made sure that mom never got to know this so that she would feel a little bit less of the pain she already had. But we all know, we can't hide things from mothers.Hardships only make your skin thicker and thicker. And as they say, you have to go through your part of struggles in life. And everybody does. Everyone has to! That's how life is.In March of 2012, I took my 12th board examination again, and I got good marks in biology. Good enough to get admitted to a med school. In August, 2012, I was admitted to a medical college and I couldn't believe how it happened!I was so confused about thanking God. Why, if he really existed, did I lose my dad in the first place? It was so unsympathetic on his part! And if he didn't exist, how come the odds were in my favor!Cut short to today, I have completed my MBBS, and now I'm back in my hometown. I'm preparing for the PG exams though, but I'm also giving some free of cost health services to patients at my dad's clinic. It gives me immense peace. The way the patients compare my face and smile with my father, I need nothing more and nothing less than this!It all seems like a one day story but it isn't. It was that one decision of my life to become a doctor that changed my life.Because, when your life has a purpose, it feels worth living!-Dr. Tanvi Dinesh Sharma
