Which celebrity did you meet only to find out they’re a total jerk?

What celebrity did you meet only to find out they’re a total jerk?I’ve lived and worked in Los Angeles for the past 40 years. You can date me by that statement.Anyway, in LA it’s very very easy to meet celebrities. Especially if you work in the hospitality business such as a restaurant. Especially, if you work in one in a good Ritzy area. I worked in West Hollywood bordering Beverly Hills and in North Hollywood near the Hollywood Recording Studios (for musicians and bands to record their sessions and albums)The “hot” “foodie trendy food at the time 1980s was Sushi and Japanese food in general”. And since I was a combination of Waiter (during lunch), Maitre’d / Consigliere (Dinner), Busboy (during lunch). The Japanese restaurant I worked in was just the place to hangout for celebrities and musicians to see and be seen. That Japanese Restaurant was on Riverside Dr. that abutted the 101 Freeway between Coldwater Canyon drive and Laurel Canyon drive.Another upscale Thai restaurant I worked at was in West Hollywood / border of Beverly Hills: on the corner of Doheny st and Sunset Ave.I did work in a restaurant in my teens and as a young adult to put myself through college. I’ve met:Barbara Perkins - Valley of the Dolls and Testimony of Two men: Stunningly beautiful. Amazing. What was interesting was when Barbara came in, I didn’t know who she was. Barbara was with another woman. They were both very beautiful. I guess it must have been girls' night out because they came in for dinner, just the two of them. But the other waiter said, “you know who that is right?” I said, “No, I don’t know, who is that?”.He said, “that’s Barbara Perkins - Valley of the Dolls and Testimony of Two men mini-series.”I said, “Wow, that’s her? I had a huge crush on her from the mini-series “Testimony of Two Men”. “I even bought the book and read it because of the mini-series by Taylor Caldwell”. Back then I was hooked on reading novels. “I never saw Valley of the Dolls, that was before my time I was too young, about 8 years old at the time”.Barbara had a look that I never saw again until I saw the Movie Blade Runner where Actress Sean Young walks out as the character “Rachel”. SEE BELOW. I did not meet Sean Young.Jack Wagner - nice guyRobert Blake (Beretta) about 30 years before the murder trial nice guy.Vic Morrow (1 week before he was killed along with those two Korean child actors on the set of Twilight zone movie by Director John Landis; (he was prosecuted for their three deaths and found “not guilty”); nice guy. That was the date of July 23, 1982. I graduated from High School in May of that year 1982. so I was all but 18 years old and out of High School.Lily Munster “The Munsters”, originally played by Yvonne De Carlo (only came in for lunch and always had to have this one Exact booth in the corner. Everybody knew that that table better be reserved for her) nice lady.Lindsey Wagner (Bionic woman) Beautiful, really nice, also really Tall. She must be 6′0″. Lindsey came in with this Native American Actor, they were dating at the time I think.Linda Evans (Dynasty and Big Valley) Really pretty and nice.TOTO the whole band. This is the album cover they autographed. Whenever Toto came out with a NEW Album (vinyl back in the day) they would come in with a bunch of albums and tell me to hand them out. The way you could tell these albums weren’t for sale is a (notch) would be cut out of one corner. This one album they autographed was great because it was white, so their signatures showed up well. And it may be worth money today since the Porcaro brothers are all dead. Jeff (drummer) died. And His Brother the bassist died. I forget his name. We were all shocked when we heard Jeff Porcaro had gotten married. He was such a player/playboy. I kid you not EVERY TIME Jeff came there, there was a different beautiful blond hanging on his arm. This is the Toto “Turn Back” ALBUM I think with that new lead singer after they fired Bobby Kimball.Ambrosia the whole band. Whenever Ambrosia came out with a NEW Album (vinyl back in the day) they would come in with a bunch of albums and tell me to hand them out. The way you could tell these albums weren’t for sale is a (notch) would be cut out of one corner. Really nice guys especially the drummer a local band from San Pedro beach town. David Pack the lead singer is actually deaf in one ear from a childhood fever. He’s got a great voice and does lots of backup vocals like on Al Stewarts “Year of the Cat”. That’s David’s voice in the background singing harmony.Jeffrey Osborne.Michael McDonald. (Doobie Brothers) really nice guy. He did a lot of studio sessions with Steely Dan. He’s really handsome in real life. He always always had that signature well-groomed beard of his (Kenny Rogers style beard).Kim Carnes.Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) about 8 years ago in a Starbucks in Santa Monica. He was doing a reading with some English lady.I got all of their autographs and lost them all over the years. The only one I still have is the entire TOTO Band; they autographed their White Toto IV album. And the Brandon Fraser; I was reading Stephen King's “Dream Catcher” at the time and he autographed that book so I still have it. LOLOh, and THE JERK? That would be Wesley Snipes at a Thai restaurant in East Hollywood aka Thai Town. I’ll never watch his movies again. Just a rude arrogant jerk. I’m glad he went to jail for tax evasion. He’d rather do time than pay back taxes to the IRS. I didn’t get his autograph. I didn’t even bother to ask he was such a jerk. He was there with his Chinese Museum Curator wife.Wesley SnipesIn 2008, Wesley Snipes was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file tax returns from 1999 to 2001. The actor kept a total of $7 million in taxes from the federal government during this time period. After losing an appeal for a retrial in 2010, he was sentenced to three years in a Pennsylvania prison for white-collar offenders. Snipes was released from prison on April 2, 2013 and finished the final three and a half months of his sentence in home confinement.Shocking Facts about Wesley Snipes’ Tax Evasion Charges - LAWS.comWesley Snipes Loses $23.5 Million Tax Case, Offers IRS Tiny 4% CompromiseCelebrity Tax Evasion: Top 4 Celebrities Who Got Busted! India's top 10% of population holds 73% of the wealth according to Oxfam. What are your thoughts on this wealth inequality in India? How will this affect the well being of the Indian society? How can we improve the current situation?

What happens if all 16 lakh students in the CBSE class X exam score the same 50% marks? This would be equality. Right? Wouldn’t it be?But, is it desirable? Can the system function with all students getting the same marks?Inequality is inevitable. The nature is like that only. Human beings, being part of the nature, cannot be different.Life on Earth is possible only because Earth revolves around the Sun. And, that is possible only because the Sun is extraordinarily larger and heavier than Earth - the sun is so large that as many as 1.3 million planets the size of Earth can fit inside it. Had Earth been of the same size and mass as the Sun, it would not have revolved around the Sun.Isn’t it inequality? Yes, but, had this inequality been not there, there would have been no life on Earth. What if all persons in the world were engineers?Or, what if all of them were doctors? Can the humanity survive with that type of system?Remember, inequality is not a new or recent phenomenon. It existed at every stage of the humanity or rather ever since the universe came into existence. One single person spent about $ 1 billion (in today’s value) in the year 1643 to build Taj Mahal. On the other hand, about 20,000 artisans worked for about 10 years to construct it. Now, what would have been the inequality between Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan who got Taj Mahal constructed and those 20,000 artisans? In fact, inequality is desirable in a way. If all persons are equal and are destined to be equal for all times to come, what would be the motivation to work harder, then?A Mukesh Ambani may inspire lakhs of businessmen to work harder.A Virat Kohli may inspire a large number of sportspersons. An Einstein inspires millions of science students. And, so on.Humanity has developed because there have been a large number of people having better (inequal) intellect or better capacity to work hard than other ordinary human beings. Most of the scientific advancements have been made courtesy such extraordinary human beings having disproportionately higher level of qualities than others.Well, let me try to come more closer to your question. When you say that 10% of the population in India holds 73% of the wealth, please realise that this 10% population includes all those who pay income tax (of course, barring those who are in agriculture, as there is no income tax in agriculture sector) and much more. This is so because, for example, in the financial year 2016-17, only about 5 crore persons in India filed their income tax returns, out of them too only about half of them (about 2.5 crore persons) actually paid any income tax; others mostly filed Nil income tax returns. That means only about 1.7% people in India actually pay income tax. Therefore, we can safely presume that 10% of the population in India would include not only all income tax payers but also a vast majority of almost all government servants, all educated professionals, most businessmen, etc.Contrast this with the fact that about 65% of the population in India is dependent on agriculture and related activities, and that agriculture contributes only about 17% of the GDP in India. This means that 65% of the population in India would mostly be consisting of poor and/or lower middle-class persons. This is further substantiated by the fact that about two-thirds population (about 66.66%) in India is provided with food subsidy at highly subsidised rates, under the provisions of the National Food Security act, 2013.Therefore, considering all the facts mentioned above, it should not come as a surprise that 10% people in India would be in possession of a substantial wealth. This may be 73% of the total wealth in India (as suggested in your question) or maybe some other substantial figure. In fact, even within a single professional field, all persons would not be equal. For example, the law profession, there are a few advocates who would be earning in the range of ₹ 50 lakh per day, while a majority of the advocates would be earning only as little as ₹ 10,000 per year. Same holds true about most other professions and vocations. When there can be so much of inequality in a single profession, there can be no doubt that there can be huge inequality when we consider all Indians together.More so, because India is still a developing country. At the initial stages of development, inequality is generally higher. At a later stage when India attains the status of a developed nation, it is definitely hoped that the level of inequality would come down substantially, though inequality will still not vanish completely.Remember, some people are diligent, some are lazy. Some are intelligent, while others are not so blessed. Some people are dedicated to their jobs (whatever the job may be), while some others may be just doing time-pass. Moreover, some people get opportunities, while others might not. Some people have inherited wealth or other positions from their forefathers, while some others are not that lucky. Some people work in big cities with a lot of opportunities and facilities available, while many others live in smaller places which don’t offer such facilities and opportunities. In short, men are not born equal. They don’t do equal work or the same type of work. Their upbringings are different. In fact, there are a large number of reasons due to which any two given persons may not have the same nature and qualities.Even two real brothers may be entirely different. Take the example of Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani. A few years back, both of them had more or less similar wealth, after their father’s wealth was distributed between them. Today, Mukesh Ambani is the richest person in Asia, with about $ 45 billion. On the other hand, Anil Ambani is mostly under debt, and his wealth is almost nothing when compared with his elder brother. So, some amount of inequality is inevitable. Same or similar inequality exists in most other countries.Even in a supposedly communist nation like China, a single individual Jack Ma has a wealth of about $ 40 billion. On the other hand, many Chinese live a life of misery. A recent government report in China categorized those earning $295 per month (about ₹ 21,000 per month) as middle class. So, can you compare this figure with the wealth of Jack Ma? Thus, even a supposedly socialist nation may have such high level of inequality. To answer another part of your question, this inequality may also be put to good use. For example, Mukesh Ambani’s wealth is actually invested mostly in Reliance companies, which give employment to people, pay huge taxes to governments, and contribute a substantial about 2.25% to India’s GDP.Most rich people keep their money in banks or invest in shares. This money is then used directly or indirectly for India’s growth. Banks lend this money to businessmen and others (including farmers), which is directly or indirectly used for constructive purposes. So, it is not that the 73% wealth (or thereabout) owned by 10% Indians is kept in a black box somewhere which is of no use to India. This money is mostly in circulation in various productive assets and thus contributes to India’s growth and also to provide employment to others, to pay taxes (which are then used by Government for various productive, and sometimes unproductive, things). How to improve the things? How to reduce inequality in wealth? Well, development of the nation is the best way possible to reduce such inequality. Gainful employment to all will help in the long run. We need to improve our agricultural sector (recently, I wrote an answer on this) on which 65% of our population is dependent. A large number of people dependent on agriculture will have to be employed in other sectors, including manufacturing. And, this requires encouragement to private sector, which can boost manufacturing. Government cannot provide employment to all. It is the private sector which can be useful in this regard. So, we must create favourable environment for manufacturing and services sector (including tourism). And, as I mentioned in my recent answer on Quora (please see here), Government needs to do a lot for the agriculture sector.
