(NIT, XXX if i say the place i can be spotted easily :P)Took me 6+ years to finish the 4yr course, thanks to laziness, drugs, multiple relationships and alcohol addiction. Once i was out, I was in a similar situation like you. The concept of first job having a great package was wiped out of context due to the 5.1CGPA that i had and the fact that it took me 2+years to finish this subject.Now that i was out, i hunted with ego. “I m from Nit, i must get at least INR XXX PM” Balls. Nothing worked out.Searched for 08 months and in parallel got certified in Oracle primavera and MS Project. One thing I realized is that, even though I had just passed all the subjects in college with bare minimum marks (30–35) somehow two subjects had been interesting and had stayed in my head, which is Operations research and SCM. I guess this made me do the MSP and Primavera certification. Finally I landed a job in Mumbai. A small mechanical service provider company. First Salary: 6200 INR Pm (imagine being in Mumbai with that amount).Sent to site as service engineer, cleaned power plant engines/components for 2 months and during which i learnt components and kept asking seniors what each components do,Worked there for 1 year for same salary. Learned tonnes of things and slowly noticed how the small small things taught in theory were being applied practically. Honestly, its the best way to learn.Slowly scaled to site supervisor (13k PM, still less, but it was a small company). Worked as site supervisor and then project engineer (15K) for another year. Finally found a new job in an MNC who specifically wanted someone good in Primavera for Manufacturing and Project scheduling. Tried my luck. Got it. (2.5LPM) Yes. Even I couldn't believe at first. Been here now for a year and I intend to switch and climb the ladder further ahead.Notice one thing? The value addition(i.e. Software training) i did to myself when i was jobless helped me after 2.5 years and in my first job i had never used those softwares. Also those 2.5 years helped me learn intricacies involved in various processes and practical knowledge.Coming to the specific answer to your question:As of now do not think about money, look for opportunities that may do value addition to your intellect and not pocket only. Learn as much as you can. You’re obviously good at something and you know it already. Work more on improving it and increase your intellect. Also, never stop learning. I wish i studied in college properly and didn't harm my body this much.Whatever laziness you may have had in college/ younger age, time to let it go and start thinking positive and result oriented. Also, understand the fact that job market is difficult these days and it takes time to land one. Do not give up just after trying a bit. KEEP TRYING. Things will work out well, my friend. Trust me :) and never ever judge a job just by the package it is offering. My first company/experience taught me the most in my life and turned me into a much better person.
