Totally valid granted your client is ok in you showing that work. If they are not ok the of course that could cause trouble for you. I wouldn't dismiss work samples based on how old they are unless you feel that style/approach is something you have outgrown and wouldn't really do anymore. I had a portfolio review 10 days ago and showed everything so people saw my evolution but explained how I've gotten to where I am today. Certainly clients or employers will admire real/live work but it is not critical at all.

Many editors will conduct portfolio reviews at conventions so you could show them there. Depending on the publisher, some may even allow you to submit your samples online. You’d have to check the various websites.If you want to be a writer, that’s a steeper hill to climb. Your best bet would be to get some work published. Find an artist and create your own comic book. With digital publishing and print on demand, it’s easier and cheaper than ever to publish your own comic book.

The deliverables from this person are UI wire frames, which are greyscale mockups of key screens without any visual design applied. They will include indicators for every screen element, but they are not typically pixel perfect, because the visual design is meant to enhance the usability so the layouts may change.Furthermore, you were supplied with Visual Design assets and specifications, so your Visual Design skills aren't being tested. Providing pixel perfect layered PSD files is typically the production task of a Visual Designer or Production Artist.
