A business model is a totality of how an organization produces value. The framework has three components—context, strategic decisions, and alignment—as shown in the following chart.Context. What is the mission and vision of the organization? That will drive many of the subsequent decisions. For example, Ability Beyond started in the 1950s when parents of disabled children volunteered daycare and school services. By 2010 their vision statement grew to encompass more needs and a larger geographic area. As the vision grew, so did the strategic decisions (and the need for more resources).Strategic decisions. Who will we serve (customers and clients)? How will we serve them (through what product and service value)? These decisions result in short-term, medium-term, and long-term outcomes. The desired outcomes will lead to further decisions on funding strategies and organizational structure.Alignment. This is the core of a business model. Nonprofits need to define a funding model to generate revenue to execute the strategic decisions and vision. Here are potential options.Foundation-controlled and/or fund-raising operations.Many libraries and free zoos have foundations and various fund-raisers to generate money for operations.Affiliations with a for-profit organizationBright Horizons, a public employer-sponsored daycare corporation, has a sister nonprofit entity (Bright Horizons Foundation).Organized as a Benefit Corporation or B CorpWhile not nonprofits per se, some companies have a legal structure requiring more emphasis to a social cause than to stockholders. Seventh Generation, a certified B Corporation, focuses on stewarding social and environmental progress as part of its corporate charter.And it’s not always necessary to file as a benefit corporation to do good works. Newman’s Own Foundation gives all profits from the sale of Newman’s Own food and beverage products to charity. TOMS offers a product to a person in need for every product sold.Government (or non-government) contractsMany social service organizations receive partial support from city, county or state agencies. ORP Management, an employee-owned family of companies serving people with disabilities, receives funding from the relevant county and state agencies.The best answer to “what is the best business model for nonprofit organizations?" is “it depends.” The scale of the non-profit (as determined by the vision and strategic decisions) will define funding requirements. That will influence organizational structure and strategy.

Any political party to succeed in India has to have atleast one of the below -a) charismatic leader andb) a good organizational structure down to grassroots (basically being a cadre based party).DMK and AIADMK are blessed with both - both have strong leaders and strong organizational structure to back them up.DMK perhaps has one of the best organizational setups amongst all political parties in India. They used to have regular inner party elections and most of the office bearers are elected rather than selected (though this is getting diluted in the recent times).District Secretaries, Town Secretaries, Zonal Secretaries .....up to the lowest level somebody has some post. In DMK, District Secretary post is one of the coveted position and the person holding that post wields considerable political influence in that area irrespective of whether they are in power or not.Even when not in power, DMK inner party elections are fiercely fought and atleast two or three district secretaries have been murdered. Used to wonder why so much fight for a party post ! Strange ways of politics.AIADMK style is different, MGR started this party after he was thrown out from DMK, and he followed the same setup as that of DMK . But being a larger than life persona as he is, the second line leadership, though capable, was always overlooked. This is the main reason that after his death, instead of somebody like Thirunavukkarasu or R.M.Veerapan, the party cadre preferred Jayalalitha - another Charismatic leader.Even being the undisputed leader, she knows the importance of the grassroots level link. The party has almost 50+ supporting organizations with different office bearers who are all basically AIADMK party members but cannot be given any official post in the party or Govt. These are like MGR Peravai, Ilaignar peravai etc - roughly equivalent VHP, Bajrang Dal of BJP/RSS, but are fully controlled by AIADMK leadership.So, how all these helpful ? They are the vital links to the people, any welfare scheme or the freebies are distributed and/or atleast monitored by these group and they ensure that these goes to the right people. They work in tandem with the Govt machinery. Though they give preference to their ruling party members, they will ensure that it reaches other people also, so that they can reap the benefits in the next election.This has worked really well for the people atleast in one aspect - there is no bureaucratic control or delay. They are bullied by the partymen. Babudom does not exist in TN.When not in power, they monitor the opposition parties and ensure that nothing is grossly misused. (Sometimes they even collude with each other and defy the respective party leadership)It is common in TN villages that in some families each family member will have affiliation to different party (DMK or AIADMK) , so that whichever party comes to power they are not affected.To summarize, in TN, these two parties are so well entrenched at the grassroots level it is becoming very difficult to dislodge them.

Disclosure:I have been, and to a limited extent I still am closely associated with RSS or one or more of its affiliate organizations.PROS:- The fundamentals of RSS are deeply rooted in its Brahmanical Origins & that foundation lends it, its character & its bearings. In that sense RSS is truly an indigenous social movement firmly entrenched in India's age old cultural values.- Its organizational structure is very dynamic & participatory & it has grown organically over the years to be a formidable force in shaping India's psyche.- It receives no corporate funding nor does it levy any membership fees. Participating in RSS activities is completely voluntary, and only on Guru Poornima does it receive donations from its volunteers by the way of 'Guru Dakshina'. Again this Charity has to be done anonymously.- The office bearers of RSS lead a very spartan lifestyle almost like Monks and try to sustain on bare minimum. Mostly RSS friendly patrons (like many members of my family) assist Volunteers in their transportation or lodging needs when they are out on prachar (missionary) duties.- RSS Volunteers have been amongst the first to rush to help of those affected by natural calamities and their efficiency & speed of reaching those services to the needy have received lots of accolades & praise in the past. They do this selflessly & without much ado.CONS:- RSS is in its dogmatic zeal to make Indian into a Hindu-Rashtra forgets that, not just the religious minorities but also, the underprivileged from within Hinduism do not subscribe to its Brahmanical views. Dr. B A Ambedkar was a big critic of RSS & its upper caste ideology. #Beefban is one glaring example of RSS's sociocultural rigidity.- Like most Socio-Religious Organizations RSS is predominantly male dominated, and mostly Celibate Bachelors at that. These volunteers have no real world experiences of dealing with women (except Mothers & sisters) & marital issues therefore, their summary on marriage & women are not only lop-sided but, laughable too.- The partition of India has inflicted a deep wound on RSS's character & even after 60+ years they are letting that issue drive their narrative. They have been unnecessarily reactionary to an issue (irreversible) that was settled some 6 decades ago and refuse to move past it.- They have refused to duly credit the scientific evolution around them and instead look back into Vedic past to find answers to issues pertaining to Health & Medicine. Their whole obsession with Cow & Dung is based on that premise.
