What is student knowledge gap analysis?

Technically, a disparity in levels of knowledge is knowledge gap. How does student knowledge gaps get created? What causes the knowledge gap? Answer is Learning… or learning process. Yes, knowledge gaps get created while learning and widens if they are not resolved on time. You will ask how? Simple example, when student misunderstood a concept or topic it creates gap. If student does not ask question at time, assuming he/she will understand it later, the gap is created. Such knowledge gaps exists with underperformers and over achievers both. What is the Google Daycare Center like?

My daughter, who was 4, went to Pre-K at the Woods this past year. This was her first and last year at the Google Day Care. We too had heard about how amazing Google's day care was, and was eager to find a spot for her. But we were on a waiting list for the past 3 years. And just when we had given up hope, we got an email telling us that we have a spot, if we wanted to take it. So of course we did.In general, Google's day care is very good, definitely a cut above the average day care centers you'd find in and around the bay area. There are several things I really liked about it:Excellent Teacher/Student Ratio The student teacher ratio is very good. We had a class of 24 kids, and 4 teachers. This in comparison to the program she was in last year, where it was 12 kids to 1 teacher.Individualized Attention Each student gets a lot of individualized attention. Within a few weeks, all the teachers knew what my daughter liked and didn't like, knew her personality very well. Because she was a bit of a picky eater, we were concerned about whether she'd eat well during lunch. So during the first few weeks in school, we'd ask the teachers about how she ate during lunch. I was very impressed by the fact that the teachers were able to tell me in detail what she tried and didn't try during lunch. They could also tell me whether she took a nap in the afternoon, and what she did during the day. This was the kind of attention that was unthinkable at her previous day care.Students Treated Like Adults Each student is treated like a smaller version of adults. This shows through in a couple of different ways. First, the teachers listen to the student's concerns in the same way my manager would listen to mine. I've never seen a teacher take a patronizing tone with a student. Each child's opinions are clearly valued. Students are also encouraged to make presentations in front of the class on whatever topic they want (vacations, favorite movies, etc). And the teachers will go all out, including setting up a projector with powerpoint (Google Slides actually), if that's what the student wants. At the end of the presentation, there is a question and answer session.Individualized Learning Plan The teachers pay close attention to what each student's interests are and really try to foster those interests. For example, my daughter was really into Elsa (who isn't?), and wanted to make an Elsa dress. But instead of laughing it off as the flights of fancy most 4yr olds are prone to, one of the teachers decided to make a plan with her, starting with an exploration of fabrics, and eventually leading to learning how a sewing machine worked. Sadly, in the end she lost interest. So the project never went anywhere. But the fact that the teachers were willing to take her seriously and make a plan with her to accomplish those goals was very impressive to me.Focus on Emotional Development The school program focuses a lot on emotional intelligence and development. There is a lot of emphasis on being a part of a community, and having a shared space (the class room) that everyone owns, and has to take care of. There are rotating chores that each student must take turns doing each week (e.g. Setting the lunch table, clearing the table, and putting dirty dishes into the dishwasher, etc). There's a lot of focus on team work and proper ways of conflict resolution.Food The food is all healthy, and cooked by the Google chefs. Most if not all organic and locally sourced (within 150miles). The kids sit together around a set of long tables and eat together, in a communal fashion. Serving dishes are passed around the table, and they have to be polite and ask their classmates to pass the potatoes, for example. So those are the pros. But no program is perfect. Below are a few of the cons:Cost. It's 1900 a month. And from what I heard, it's actually getting a little more expensive next year. It's a lot of money to spend on day care, even if you work for Google.Too much individual freedom. It's got a little too much individual freedom. The kids can do pretty much anything they want. That sewing project that never got finished? This kind of thing happens a lot. When your child loses interest in something they started, they aren't pushed to finish it. And if your kid isn't as interested in reading or writing, the teachers won't force it on them. And while I agree with this approach in general, I do wish there was a lit bit more focus on academics, like maybe 30 minutes out of the day to learn a few new words.Impossible to get into Despite the high cost of the program, there is still a huge amount of demand, and not nearly enough available slots. We were on a waiting list for 3 years. And now, they've done away with the waiting list and have adopted a random lottery instead. This makes it even more impossible to get into. My recommendation here is to submit your child's name into the program as soon as you are pregnant. The best way to get a spot is to start as an infant. Of course not every parent will make this choice. We did not, and preferred to keep her home with us for the first few years.Commute. The commute is brutal, if you don't live near Mountain View. All of the schools are near the main campus. But if you are like me, who lives in Fremont, then you are looking at an hour long commute in each direction.

Can you help me make an example of an IEP (individualized educational program)?

One way of monitoring learner progress is to set up ‘Individual learning plans’ or ‘learning contracts’. You can probably find lots of stuff on google about these.A simple ILP might follow these steps:Diagnose the learners needs – this can be determined by an initial meeting with each learner and discussing course requirements and individual concerns and needs.Encourage diary keeping for you and the learner – this will help the learner to keep track of where they are in terms of meeting set deadlines and course objectives.Explain course objectives/outcomes – provide information about what there is to know and how this will be achieved through the course.Have the resources in place to keep records of progress and meeting schedulesSet time frames for certain objectives to be achievedMake student aware of criteria to be used for formal assessment (ie what they MUST achieve to pass/meet the course objectives).Include formative assessment as a means to track how the student is progressing.Check records and assessment sheets and give feedback at set meetingsReview individual learning plan at set meetings and check if objectives have been met. These stages look a bit daunting but once you have systems and documentation in place it will improve your awareness of each student’s progress.
