The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation's largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.SYEP provides all of its participants with an 8 hour orientation prior to placement with a worksite to provide the youth with key information to be utilized while working for the program and in real life employment opportunities they can take with them.Applicants to the SYEP must apply online at New Castle County Summer Youth Employment Program, starting February 1, 2020. Along with the online application, applicants should also upload copies of their photo ID in the form of a school ID, driver's License, State-issued ID, or a school registration form with photo embedded.

If you want to work for NASA, you need to be in the NASA co-op program, while in college. The requirements for that program are:U.S. CitizenshipPursuing a bachelors degree or higher on at least half-time basisEnrolled or accepted for enrollment at accredited educational institutionCumulative GPA 2.9; 3.0 and higher preferredComplete at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours prior to closing date of the announcement you're applying toIf your school has a Cooperative Education Employment program you must be enrolled in it. Absolutely not.Humans are biologically wired to distrust anything different. That extends even to other humans, people who look or act differently.The disabled often tick all of those boxes. There’s a man named Garrett who works in the same store that I do, in an assisted employment program.Garrett is strange. He’s an older man with an unkempt beard and long red hair. He doesn’t like looking at you when talking to you. His jaw hangs open most of the time. He’s an adult man with serious acne on his face and neck.I was initially weirded out by Garrett when I started working this summer. His strange appearance made me apprehensive and I didn’t exactly seek out his company.One day we were the only two people in the store when my boss had to run an errand.“Do you like football?” Garrett asked, out of nowhere. “I saw you wearing a Packers T-Shirt and I thought you might like football.”“Yeah Garrett, I like football,” I answered.“My favorite team is the Bears,” he said, looking somewhere to my left. “Mitchell Trubisky is a better quarterback than Aaron Rodgers.”I looked at him. He was still looking away from me but he was grinning widely.This kicked off a 30 minute discourse about football. Garrett told me about the NFL when he was a kid. How he’d become a fan of the Bears listening to games on the radio growing up in a Chicago. I told him that my mom was from Wisconsin.He asked if she wore cheese on her head.The next day I went in to work and Garrett came over to me with a big grin.“Did you hear Aaron Rodgers got traded to the Redskins?” he asked.”Jesus, really Garrett?” I asked, whipping out my phone to check ESPN.There was no such news. Garrett was laughing hysterically. I had to grin. He got me.Garrett now comes in with a new team Aaron Rodgers has theoretically been traded to every day we work together. The fact that I don’t believe him anymore doesn’t seem to dissuade him at all. He finds it just as hilarious as the first time. His sheer persistence makes me smile.I used to feel uncomfortable around Garrett until I made a genuine effort to get to know him, to look at more than his strange appearance and mannerisms.Now I’m proud to call him a friend.
