Bill Simmons already conquered this one with his Entertaining-as-Hell Tournament idea back in 2013. The non-playoff teams play their own playoff. The winner gets the #1 pick in the draft. At the end of the column, Simmons trashes his own idea and then suggests the worst 6 teams all get a 9 percent chance of winning the lottery, which is pretty close to the new draft rules for 2019 (14 percent for the bottom 3 teams, then tapers off to 9 percent to the 6th worst).Think about how entertaining an NBA draft tournament would be this year. You’d have Dirk Nowitzki and Dwayne Wade battling to help their franchises get the next franchise player on their way out the door.
