How do you feel about people who regret changing their gender?

This question made me go to the science. I’m well aware of the current popular narrative that huge hordes of post-surgical transsexuals deeply regret the transition and wish they’d never done it. This is of course popular with folks who disapprove of gender transition. Here’s a quick story. I sat in front of a board of four examiners when I was seeking specialty certification. I’d presented a case of a young woman with chronic depression. Three of the senior psychologists had lots of excellent questions about case formulation and treatment. One asked “Did you explore the possibility that she had had an abortion?” (I couldn’t remember, I didn’t think so.)This guy, a very experienced psychologist, was determined that many, many young women suffer serious depression as a result of “abortion guilt.” It was a kind of single issue for him. The other three rescued me, thank gods, by peppering me with more questions until the time was up.I always think of that incident nowadays when people learn that I’d been involved with gender transitioning folks and want to instruct me on the “Tragedy that so many of these poor men, perhaps the majority (it’s always men for some reason) mutilated their bodies, and live with endless depression and regret.”There’s a lot of that going around these days about detransitioning (what a word.)As best as I can make out from a quick look at the science, is that post-surgical regret is extremely uncommon. Here’s a summary quote from a recent studyAbstract: A Survey Study of Surgeons’ Experience with Regret and/or Reversal of Gender-Confirmation SurgeriesCONCLUSION: Regret after gender-affirming surgery is an exceedingly rare event. Reasons for regret or detransition are diverse, ranging from change in gender identity to societal and relationship pressures to post-surgical pain. It is not uncommon for detransition to be associated with surgical complications. Guidelines need to be developed to assist surgeons, patients, and payors in managing these rare events. This finding makes lot of sense to me. The hoops surgeons require people to jump through before any kind of gender reassignment are extreme and daunting, often at least a full year or two on hormones, a similar period of living and presenting full time exclusively as the new gender, tons of counseling and second opinions (I did second opinions), assessment of support system, and a whole lot more. These folks would be very unlikely to change their mindsNow, we’re not talking about 12-year-olds who are absolutely certain they’re in the wrong body, or at least want to consider it, and who are sent to specialists and clinics to explore and deal with it, but never move on to hormones, much less to surgeries. Those number are hard to sort out, but they’re bound to be far higher than 3 out of a thousand post-surgical regretters, which makes sense. This image comes up when I Google “transition regret.” (I didn’t have two minutes available.)

Which of the new IIMs are good for operations? (suggest Baby IIMs also if they are good)

In a comparison, among the 14 IIMs recently established, it has to be IIM Kashipur for the following reasons:1. The college is located in one of the densest industrialised belts of the country, as over 180 industries have their plants located in and around Kashipur. This places the institute in a strong position over another sister IIMs, as IIM Kashipur gets access to their live projects. It also provides the students with the opportunity of an industrial visit.2. Twenty percent of IIM Kashipur's permanent faculties are from the domain of 'Operations Management.' In fact, the institute's Director is from the same background. On that note, let me brief you about some of the institute's Operations Management faculties:Prof. Gautam Sinha: The present Director of IIM Kashipur has received the ‘Best Teacher in Operations Management Award’ at Asia’s Best B-School Awards, Singapore, July 2011. He has also received "Thought Leader Award" in World Education Congress 2013 at Mumbai. He has been trained as TQM Trainer by 'Institute for Resource Development', Columbia(USA) in 1991 and received his ISO Lead Assessor Certificate from BSIQA, UK. He conducts MDP programs for top management executives of companies like CIL, Voltas.Dr Kampan Mukherjee: He is presently the Dean, Planning and Development, IIM Kashipur. He earned PhD from Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics as a government sponsored research scholar in 1988 and subsequently got associated with LAMSADE, University Paris Dauphine as a Senior Visiting Fellow of Government of France in 1998. He was awarded 'Life Time Achievement award in Operations Management' by 'Society of Operations Management in 2012'. He has a rich teaching experience of over two decades. His accomplishment in teaching is well reflected by overseas Visiting Professorship in European countries (Germany, Austria, The Netherlands and Finland, in particular), Australia and Dubai.Dr Kunal Ganguly: He is presently the chairperson of the Operations Management area at IIM Kashipur. He has co-authored the textbook ‘Operations Management’ by Collier, Evans from Cengage publishers and authored ‘Supply side risk assessment’ from LAP Lambert Publishers, Germany. He is an International contributor to the book “Quality Management” by Foster and “Materials Management” by Chapman from Pearson Edu.Dr R K Padhy: He held the position of Sr. Dy. Director at National Productivity Council (Under Dept. of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry), New Delhi. He boasts 14 years of consulting experience in operations management area with clients such as Airport Authority of India, NALCO, NTPC, Garden Reach Ship Builders, Reliance Industries, Aditya Birla Group, L&T, Bharat Gears Ltd, Ministry of Power, DCMSME, OMC, OPTCL and various government departments. He holds Black Belt certification in Six Sigma from Advanced Manufacturing Technology Associates, Glenview, Motorola.Prof. Debabrata Das: He was conferred with the "Award for Excellence in Thesis Work" for the year 2014-2016 by IIT-Bombay for the outstanding research contributions. He has also received Certificate of Merit award for his research paper presented in IAENG International Conference on Operations Research, Hong Kong, 2012. Recently, he was invited to participate in the “New Faculty Development Consortium” organised by Decision Science Institute (DSI) held in Seattle, USA.3. IIM Kashipur is among those few institutes that provide students with the opportunity to earn a six-sigma Greenbelt, as a part of its curriculum4. IIM Kashipur has its own ‘Centre of Excellence’ for ‘Lean Management’ known as ‘Lean Operations Cell’Therefore, on the criteria of faculties, curriculum and location, IIM Kashipur is better for 'Operations Management,' compared to its sister IIMs. But, again, it’s still early to judge any of these institute.(Data courtesy: IIM Kashipur’s website)I hope that helped
