Keep a simple log.I was an IT consultant for 15 years, often working on projects for different clients at any given time. I faced the same problem. Interruptions and task switching mess with your creativity and productivity.My solution was to keep a log of any time I started working on a different task. I'd note the date and time, client name, and what I was trying to accomplish. That's all.Keeping track of things this way had a few benefits. It helped me fill out my time sheets every day, it let me look back many months later at what I was doing on a certain date, and, most importantly, it was data I could share with my manager to show how disruptive constant interruptions were.Over time I switched from a paper log to an Excel spreadsheet, but I also toyed with having an application running in the background that I could activate with an unusual keyboard combination, then click on a button indicating which project I was switching to and maybe add a note about why I was switching. The Excel spreadsheet was the most useful in the long run.In any case, all you need to do is keep a log. It's minimally invasive, and it makes filling out your time sheets much easier.

Ideally, your microservices self-document in one way or another. In this way, it is easy to keep up to date. After all, with so many microservices, having a centralized person documenting every relationship will almost certainly fail.Typical methods include:Swagger API documentation that is auto-generated by your application. These document just what each service API supports, not necessarily what its downstream dependencies are.Zipkin activity logs that track service-to-service calls and build a visualized web of relationships. This is a sort of after-the-fact way of doing it, but actually pretty cool.Centralized Configuration Repository that configures what microservices are allowed to call what microservices and (ideally) something like Amazon Security Groups that actually enforces these relationships. Alternatively, some way to boot up everything locally using the configured dependency hierarchy. Basically, this method only works if there is some ulterior motive for people to keep the docs accurate. I’ve seen people write quick apps that visualize these relationships, mapping into D3 libraries or other visualization tools.Good luck!
