PDF Editor FAQ

A team of researchers from the future are looking through your things for evidence that you lived during the 1980’s, what would they find?

My high school and undergraduate diplomas along with some unfortunate photos from my Flashdance period would definitely place me squarely in the 1980s.My high school “varsity letter jacket" from 10th grade has my graduation year right on the black leather sleeve probably 6 inches high in bright yellow chenille numbers. (I went to a different high school on a different continent for my last two years.) In case of any confusion, the year is also displayed on at least one metal pin that goes on the actual “letter.”I was quite prolific in creating elaborate crewel embroidery and cross stitch pieces in the latter half of 1980s between my undergraduate years and law school. I signed and dated all of the professionally framed pieces. A few of them that were not created as gifts remain a part of my home decor.I have bound personal journals dating back to the latter half of the 1980s. The colors if the fabric covers alone would alert someone to the correct decade if they saw all of the journals on a shelf.I have a handful of garments from that period. Someone who knows fashion brands could pinpoint the decade easily.I have some watches and jewelry from the 1980s.

What people get into what schools?

sure but mine are very dated 1977 time frame.ACT 33 compositSAT 790 Math690 EnglishHigh School GPA 3.7 (note before any honors courses and AP classes existed so there were no 5.0 classes)Class rank 12th in a class of 620 +/-Applied to Stanford, Berkley, Michigan, Notre Dame & MIT.Accepted at all - Went to Notre Dame.Freshman son - 4.1 GPA 32 ACT CompositeApplied MIT - Stanford - Case Western - Michigan - Michigan Tech - Michigan State - Wayne State - Wait listed at MIT - Declined at Stanford - Accepted all the others decided on Michigan and decline MITs offer to remain on their wait list. Just started at Michigan last week.Other info about my son - Eagle Scout - His Quad finished 6th at US Nationals in New Jersey this spring. Captian of his high school rowing crew. 8 varsity letters total - Rowing MVP as a Junior and Senior. So Bottom line there are many many very very qualified candidates that get rejected from some big name schools. Don't get discouraged and have a backup plan.

How can I get admitted to MIT?

Time frame: mid 1980's.I had nearly perfect grades. My high school used straight percentage points (100% meant you didn't miss a single question). At graduation my average was 97.24% (on average I missed 1 out of every 36 questions). Regular GPA's (4.0 scale) hide the difference between a high A, an A and a low A. I had the highest average in my school every year during high school and was consistently ranked #1 in my class and the entire school.Math skills: I completed the math curriculum by my junior year (through AP calculus). My senior year I taught the class 1 day/week. I also won a few county wide math contests. Because I completed the math curriculum early (I couldn't take AP Calculus again for credit), I would have been ineligible, for academic reasons, to play varsity football my senior year. The faculty and administration, petitioned the state legislators to rewrite the academic requirements to match my exceptional circumstances (which the state did).Science: I had a perfect ACT score for sciences.Extra curricular activities: Varsity letters in Cross Country (3 years), Track and Field (3 years as a thrower and runner), Swim Team (1 year - my high school started the swim program at my request), Football (1 year), Rifle Team (1 year). I played in the band (first chair), was a sailing instructor (NJROTC high school) and was the second highest ranking cadet (300+ students). I was also a member of half a dozen different clubs.Every teacher I had volunteered to write letters of recommendation.
