PDF Editor FAQ

Is there a hierarchy among those involved in film making? What is the pecking order among producers, directors, cameramen, editors, screenplay writers, dialogue writers, music directors and various other trades? Who is paid more?

This is going to be the longest answer I have written. So considered yourself warned. Definitely there's a hierarchy in the film crew but it changes little bit to drastically according to type and budget of the video or film. When working on any video production, it’s important to know the roles and hierarchy of the team. This way you know who to approach with questions and which person leads what department. So I'm putting the list of people involved and their responsibilities in a films.PRODUCER: (THE ALPHA )The producer is the initial contact for the project. They talk with the client to arrange the high-level goals and expectations. It’s their responsibility to assemble the production team. The director typically comes first. From there, they put together the necessary crew members. The producer usually stays involved throughout the project life cycle: pre-production, production and post-production.Producer has its own team depending on the budget of the film. His team usually consist ofCo-producer: Co-producer is a member of a team of producers that perform all of the functions and roles that a single producer would have in a single given projectExecutive Producer (E.P) : The executive producer oversees all of the other producers working on the same project. They make sure that the producers are fulfilling their roles on the given production. They can also be in charge of managing the film's finances and handling all other business aspects of the film.Line Producer: The line producer manages the staff and day-to-day operations and the oversees each and every physical aspect that is involved in the making of a film or television program.Segment Producer: A segment producer produces one or more single specific segments of a multi-segment film or television production.DIRECTOR-The director is typically the most involved person on and off set. They assist with assembling the right crew to get the job done. They make adjustments to the script to keep the video on budget and on time. They oversee all parts of the production. Questions get funneled up to them. And, when dealing with talent, the director should be the only one directing them. They oversee technical details as well, such as camera position, use of lighting and anything that effects the final product.Examples: Anurag Kashyap, Rajkumar Hirani, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher.Director has its own team too. It consists of1st Assistant Director ( 1st A.D) : This guy mainly responsible for scheduling on set. He wrangles talent, keeps the crew on time, and assists the director and producer. In some cases, the 1st AD also checks off the shot list, assuring lines are read as intended and the correct props are in the proper place.2nd Assistant Director: This guy distributes documents such as scripts and call sheets to the cast and crew. They also help supervise the set with the 1st AD.DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY (DoP) / CINEMATOGRAPHER:DoP and cinematographer are usually the same. Some insist that the cinematographer title only gets used when the DoP is also the camera operator.Either way, the DoP is in charge of the lighting as well as the camera. In some cases they work along side the lighting director.Examples: Anil Mehta, Gordon Willis, Roger Deakins.DoP and Director are the most involved people in the production phase and they do work by help of each other. His team consists ofCamera Operator: He is the person in charge of working the camera to capture the scenes.2. 1st Assistant Camera: He is often the focus puller.Their job is to make sure the shot is always in focus. Why was Liberace not considered a great pianist by his peers?

Liberace was a very good pianist technically. He was a child prodigy and originally played classical music. I have some sheet music of popular songs arranged as Liberace played them: his own Boogie Woogie, a ragtime number, etc. They reflect an original approach to the music — sort of his own patented Liberace style — and are a little challenging. Liberace knew his way around the keyboard. He was at least as good and very possibly better technically than his pop piano contemporaries such as Roger Williams, Ferrante & Teicher, etc.I say he was a very good pianist “technically” because Liberace was basically a piano entertainer. The real measure of great pianists is not just technical skill. A certain level of technical skill is a given when it comes to professional pianists. What really makes a pianist great is the ability to grow as an artist and find new ways to improve interpretation of the same music. A pianist may record a particular piece of music at the age of 25 and then come back to that music at the age of 50 and find totally different nuances in the music. This is commonly seen with the greatest classical and jazz artists.Piano entertainers usually don’t worry about musical growth because they are entertainers. They may very well play a piece of music pretty much the same way at age 60 as they did at age 20. There’s little or no interpretive growth. Some “serious” musicians think that’s awful, but there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it. It’s just a function of what the pianist is trying to do. Entertaining is an art unto itself, and Liberace was very good at entertaining.Liberace did tend to change over the years as an entertainer, and his longevity was quite amazing given that his career was a product of the 1940’s and 1950’s. He was still going strong until shortly before his death in 1987, and at one point he was the highest-paid entertainer in show business. They didn’t call him “Mr. Showmanship” for nothing. Over the years his sequined costumes got wackier and wackier, and he was an inspiration for performers such as Elton John. But his music eventually played second fiddle to his rather gaudy stage shows and flamboyant lifestyle, both public and private.Liberace began as a classical pianist, but he once said that in his heart he knew he wanted to be an entertainer. Did he make the right decision in becoming an entertainer instead of a concert artist? I think he did. The classical world is brutally competitive, and while Liberace probably had the ability to compete in the world of concert piano playing he would not be remembered in the same way. For better or worse, love him or hate him, Liberace will always be remembered as an American original.

Who’s the better boss? Perry White or J. Jonah Jameson?

Seriously, why is this in question? Perry White is an irascible man who in the end cares about people, the paper and integrity. JJJ has a bigger rap sheet.Criminal activities of J Jonah Jameson.Libelous accusations without evidence regularly printed in the Daily Bugle. Such yellow journalism can lead to class action lawsuits at the very least and he knows it.Falsified news stories about various people including many costumed crime fighters. All to further his smear campaign against them and incite the public. Personal vendettas do not make for good journalism and could lead to legal action by the state.Inciting public riots through the news media and issued out company funds to place a bounty for the capture of Spider-Man. Such a bounty can only be issued for any information as the Daily Bugle is not a law enforcement agency or bail bondsmen.Used company funds for illicit activities such as paying for the construction of the Spider Slayers by Dr. Alistaire Smythe, the same doctor whose actions caused the death of his second wife, Marla Madison.Who he also hired to make Spider Slayers.Hired assassins like Daniel Berckhart, the 2nd Mysterio to eliminate Spider-Man.Filed fraudulent lawsuits against Peter ParkerFinanced illegal human experimentation by Drs. Farley and Harlan Stillwell, resulting in the creation of the super villains Scorpion and the Fly for the sole purpose of attacking Spider-Man.Assault at the controls of the aforementioned Spider Slayer as he attacked Spider-Man with them on multiple occasions.Attempted murder of his new daughter in law Jennifer Walters otherwise known as She-Hulk. Jameson once again used his Spider Slayer robot to try and slay She-Hulk. It failed, obviously, thusly adding stupidity to the list of reasons why he is not a good boss. All of it. Every single thing he ever did was out of the colossal ego of an insecure man.Unless your measure of a good boss is on what they can get away with without going to prison, I will have to go with Perry White as the better boss.
