Laredo Bridge System: Fill & Download for Free

The language barrier is the biggest hassle. Laredo is a big city with a small town mentality. I am a preacher’s kid and moved a lot growing up and have lived in small towns and communities. I have lived in Laredo since the summer of 1982. My wife is from Laredo and my two sons were born and raised in Laredo. I have lived here longer than any where, so Laredo is HOME for me and I love living here the people are friendly and decent. I have seen this town grow tremendously over the past 36 years. We have a four year university that is part of the Texas A&M system. The state has built a loop around the city. We have two new bridges connecting with Mexico, one for regular traffic and one for commercial traffic.I am a public school teacher in Laredo and have nothing against the Spanish language. However, a person does not have to learn the English Language to survive in Laredo, so that creates a barrier for the students that want to go out of town for college.

Of course. If you don’t cover other people’s tails, then your radio calls don’t get answered in a timely manner. It’s a sad system and it’s real. It’s one of the reasons I left law enforcement in 1985. But, there are still some good stories that come from that close knit family.Seems back in the 1970s on an international bridge between Texas and Mexico (I think it was between Laredo and Nuevo Laredo, an American officer shot a Mexican national. He swore that the Mexican had a gun and fired two shots at him. He described the gun as a short barreled, blue or black revolver. It was not recovered at the scene and the officer’s speculation was that if fell off the bridge and was in the river. Two days later, the brought in a big magnet to dredge the river. The magnet was lowered into the river and moved around a little bit and brought back to the surface with four 2″ .38 Specials each with two chambers fired.

Sort of. You have to know where to pick your spots. There are more and more of very sophisticated motion monitoring systems and software out there — some crazy high-tech shit, so the CBP and ICE have an astonishing capacity to detect crossings over much of the border. And the places they are less concerned about are often very difficult, dry, dangerous, hot.But nobody in Mexico is paying attention to gringos heading south, so you can cross into Mexico most anywhere. In Laredo I cross the bridge into Nuevo Laredo four times a year and don’t even have a human interaction. Buzz straight over the bridge, maybe one or two cars on it, a little camera flash, the gate opens, and I drive into downtown Nuevo Laredo. Coming back? A two-hour line, followed by the third degree interrogation, followed by the car search. I really wish we were more like the EU. Just a sign, “Entering France” (and the Germans invaded them twice in the last century, a bit more dangerous than freakin’ Mexicans are to Americans).
