Brookside School: Fill & Download for Free

I was a pin-boy in the '50's at Brookside Bowl in Tulsa. It was semi-automated, in the sense that one was filling a rack and cranking it down, picking up the balls and sending them back down the return rack. One did get to bowl for free and earned 10-15 cents a line. If you were really good you could handle two lanes at once. The big sport for the bowlers was sending the ball down the alley quickly to see if one could send a pin ricocheting up to hit a pin-boy. It happened too often. It was an after school job or weekends, although the school boys were not appreciated by the regulars who did this for a living. One tried to pick the lanes where the best bowlers performed, particularly in the leagues. The games went faster, thus producing higher earnings, and there were always folks who would tip the pin-boys if they were fast and made no errors. It was dirty and dangerous work, but the free bowling paid off leading to some other chances to make money from some of the patrons or on "Bowling for Dollars" on the local TV station. For the bowlers, it was not much different, although knowing that there was a person setting the pins, not a machine, did produce a connection. Some bowlers actually requested certain pin-boys for luck, speed or, sometimes, a little help occasionally on the pin count.

My fiancee, Tami, and I were planning on inviting our respective families to our wedding in 1997, however, when I told my parents on Thanksgiving that we were getting married, my parents sort of freaked out.Now, to be fair, I was only 30 years old, with 8 years of active duty Army Intelligence, a veteran of 3 wars [didn’t participate in conflict, was part of rear-echelon troops], was in college getting all A’s as well as holding down a full time job; and Tami was a recent divorcee.We had met each other in 1981, went to rival high schools, attended the same college starting in 1985, and even shared a few classes - we were the only 2 freshmen in the Advanced Madrigals, but we weren’t involved with each other then.I joined the Army in 1989, and got out of active duty in 1996. I got a call from a co-worker a few months later when she was a patient at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She asked me to get her out of the hospital for a few hours, and so we went to a nearby church, where I ran into Tami. She asked if I still did music, so we exchanged numbers and she called me the next week.We spent two weeks working on music, and we would talk, catch up, and just had a great time being around each other.We were not looking to get into a relationship - she was divorcing her husband [months before she met me, she separated, knowing her relationship was over], and I was working on finishing my degree.Well, we fell in love, and so back to the story:My parents kinda freaked out and really pushed for me to quit seeing her.Well, I didn’t. We planned our wedding, including the venue, and my parents kept being very negative. Her family liked me, but her brother and sister-in-law were also very negative.After a number of months of realizing they weren’t going to change their views, we looked at each other and said: We can’t manufacture them feeling happy about us, and since the wedding is a celebration of us - let’s just go ahead and get married for us.So we did.So on 8 July 1998, Tami and I eloped after work. We went to the Brookside Botanical Gardens, in Silver Spring MD - near where I lived. It had rained earlier, but the sun was peeking through the clouds.The minister and she and I were the only people in the park, other than 1 worker.We went to the gazebo on the water, and said our vows, and left smiling.We’ve been married since then, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Relative to the rest of the country or even the KC metro area, I’d say there aren’t really any “bad” parts of OP. There are areas that are more convenient, being closer to work, shops, nightlife, etc… there are parts that are more quiet and laid back (away from main streets). Even what some might consider the “worst” part of OP is pretty nice. The crime is usually minimal and very rarely involves any violence.If you’re asking what neighborhood is best: I think it depends on your needs. If you’ve got young kids, you probably care about the Elementary School. That leaves a ton of options, with only a little research. To keep my answer timeless, I’ll just say that you can find great reviews of all of them online.If you want to have more night-life, you probably want to be somewhere between 95th and 143th between Metcalf and Nall.If you want to be close to work, it depends on where you work. However, being close to 69hwy or I-35 will get you anywhere in town very quickly (except Waldo / Brookside, which is never easy). I loved being 2 minutes from a highway when I worked downtown.If you like parks and being outside, then you can be just about anywhere. The trails are all over, as are the parks.
