Unless this misses the question, I am astounded there's a lack of surrealist photography here. Surely photography is an art form in itself. Especially as the majority of the classic compositions are photomontages.This is a small selection of my favourite surreal images.Toshiko Okanoue(Nature -1951)(Noon Song - 1954)Toshiko Okanoue's 1950s collages, using images cut from Life, Vogue and similar magazines of the time, are curious escapes from post-war Japan.Man Ray(Glass Tears - 1932)(Observatory time: The Lovers - 1936)Emmanuel Radnitzky born in Philadelphia and raised in Brooklyn New York. His name slowly evolved to Man Ray – due in part to ethnic discrimination at that time. His art spanned painting, sculpture, film, prints and poetry, and in his long career he worked in styles influenced by Cubism, Futurism, Dada and Surrealism. He also successfully navigated the worlds of commercial and fine art, and came to be a sought-after fashion photographer.Herbert Bayer(Slice of Meat - 1932)(Lonesome Big City Dweller - 1932)Herbert Bayer (1900-1985) was an Austrian graphic designer, painter, photographer, sculptor, art director, environmental & interior designer and architect. Although Bayer was one of the last remaining members of the Bauhaus movement, he exhibited photomontages that are very surreal in nature.Dora Maar(Untitled (hand and snail) - 1934)(Ubu Portrait - 1936)Dora Maar was born in Paris, France, on November 22, 1907. When she was 19, she began pursuing the artistic life, studying painting and photography. Her work had begun garnering attention when she met Pablo Picasso, and her life would never be the same.Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison(Guardian - 2003)(Tethered Sky - 2004)Robert & Shana ParkeHarrison began collaborating on photographs shortly after graduate school, when they began constructing and choreographing scenarios about mans affect on the landscape. In these stagings, Robert would dress in a black suit and starched white shirt - often referred in the press as an Everyman – and interact with the land, creating environmental performances

Collages use found objects, often in ways the emphasize the incongruity of their construction. (The word comes from the French: coller, to glue) The introduction of collage in modern art (c. 1912, by Pablo Picasso) revolutionized the idea of the appropriate materials for art, and of the role of the artist in using external, sometimes industrially fabricated materials. It's interesting how many of the early Cubist collages depict violins and guitars.Pablo Picasso, Violin, 1912Collage was extended by Dada and Surrealist artists in innovative ways in the next decade, including the use of printed photographs, which is called photomontage.Hannah Hoch, Dadandy, 1919Hannah Hoch, Made for a Party, 1920sThe potentials of collage extend beyond the visual arts, and include the idea of sampling sounds found outside the realm of traditional musical instruments. That is, based on the manipulation of the world outside that created directly by the artist. For modernist artists as well as modern composers, the concept of collage allowed them to experiment with innovative forms, to rearrange the world in stiking ways, and to engage with new technology.Collage in music needed sound recording technology so that sound could be captured and then manipulated. Here's the first known sound collage from 1930, by German filmmaker Walter Ruttmann, titled Wochenende (Weekend).This is an eleven minute audio piece done with sound-on-film (with no images) technology.This is new technology which had emerged in the 1920s. This is the birth of sampling in music, and is directly related to collage. Ruttmann was clearly thinking about the film editing techniques called montage, which was also influenced by the ideas of collage in the 1920s.Early experimenters with electronic music (Called musique concrète) in the 1940s and 1950s included Pierre Schaeffer and others. They started experimenting with sound collage using the newly invented magnetic tape recorders (invented in 1939).This is Pierre Chaeffers, Etude aux chemins de fer (Railroad Study) 1948. It was composed of trains sounds recorded on tape.Here's an article on Scheaeffer: case study: pierre schaefferJohn Cage began experimenting with found sounds and manipulated instruments in the 1940s and 50s and on.In his prepared piano works, the performer would insert foreign objects such as screws into the piano strings, transforming its sounds.Cage started experimenting with chance-based composition techniques in conjunction with found sounds. His Williams Mix (1951-53) used I Ching (a Chinese fortune telling method) with rules he had determined to mix eight simultaneously playing tape recordings.The chaotic nature of these compositions extends from the experimental nature of collage in modern visual art. However, it's worth pointing out that these experiments are the ancestors of sampling in contemporary electronic music, hip-hop etc.

I recently saw a video on Youtube named something like this :- “100 years of beauty of Indian women.”It shows the changes in style and atttire of Indian women in very beautiful way.
