This is totally bizarre! However, Al Qur’an was not named, as such. Instead, to cover all religious texts, the Chinese government called for a "comprehensive evaluation of the existing religious classics aiming at contents which do not conform to the progress of the times". So, that includes The Bible, Al Qur’an and any other religious text that falls short of the glory of the Chinese government ideologues.But how can you rewrite verses like : “ And fight them until there is no fitnah and [until] the religion, all of it, is for Allah.” Al Qur’an 8:39. ??!And there are hundreds of other verses that would ultimately have no place in the Chinese government’s new concept of The Social Credit System. And which Muslim anywhere in the world would accept such a re-written book? Islam teaches specifically that not one syllable of Al Qur’an can change because it originates from an unchanged and unchanging Allah. The ‘Mother of the Book’ (Umm al-Kitab), the original source of Al Qur’an, is in Heaven, and the Qur’an we can read on Earth is an exact copy.This decision sounds like it was made by a committee! And committees are famous for getting things totally wrong. (There is a true saying: A camel is a horse designed by a committee!)In fact, it might be interesting to compare final versions of Al Qur’an and The Bible with their original versions and discover which book has suffered most changes. That could be a benchmark to find out which religion comes closest to the Chinese government’s world view!But seriously, whatever kind of text the Chinese government eventually produces, it will simply become a literary curiosity that critics all over the world will use to ridicule them.However, it’s interesting how the Muslim world’s comparative silence regarding the Uighur crackdown might cause them to remain tight-lipped about the rewriting of Al Qur’an. For example, on August 21st, 2019, Qatar informed the UN Human Rights Council that it was withdrawing from a multilateral letter it had signed criticizing China’s actions taken against the Muslim Uighur population. Qatar’s permanent representative to the UN said, “We wish to maintain a neutral stance, and we offer our mediation and facilitation services.” That careful wording is unsurprising given that Emir Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has met with Chinese president Xi Jinping twice in the past six months and agreed to enhance ‘strategic cooperation’ with Beijing.And there are many other Islamic States in a similar position. Chinese financial muscle could leverage an already supine response to the Uighur crackdown, meaning that red lines normally clearly marked could be moved, depending on circumstances.Muslims around the world will, of course, reject the re-write totally! And one can understand why.

The U-Foes, historically, haven’t been much to be excited about. However, With Al Ewing’s new take on “Gamma” and “Cosmic Rays” they offer an opposite to the Hulk. They received 2 doses of cosmic rays. The first was when they were trying to replicate the experiment that created the Fantastic 4, while the 2nd was after a fight with the Hulk, to try to become more powerful and gain better control of their abilities.The U-Foes are made up of 4 members:Iron Clad is the big blue guy on the left side. He’s got metallic skin and is the “bruiser” of the group. Much like the Thing, he was changed forever from his human form to a more monstrous appearance. This gave him a tough exterior that allows him to stand up to the Hulk’s punches, and the strength to fight back against the Hulk.Vector is the orange guy in the middle. He’s their leader, and while he’s not as smart as Reed Richards, he’s vastly more powerful. He’s a powerful telepath/telekinetic who can affect matter. He can attract, repel, block and accelerate matter. He usually uses this power to repel matter away from himself. In fact, once when battling Hulk at the crossroads, he nearly destroyed many dimensions simply through his matter manipulation while trying to repel the Hulk.X-Ray is the red glowing fella in the back right. He’s a living energy construct that can project hard energy constructs in the form of concussive blasts. While he’s technically immune to physical harm by normal methods, anything that can disrupt his electromagnetic fields can hurt him. Hulk once used a lead pipe, for instance, or Thor simply used his energy absorption powers.Vapor is the lady in the top right that looks a bit like a cloud. Her body is gaseous and she can change the chemical make-up into any gas in existence. Like her brother, X-Ray, she is nearly immune to all physical attacks, though unconventional attacks can harm her (such as when Professor Hulk shot her with a freeze ray and then shattered her.)As I said, the U-Foes attempted to replicate the accident that created the Fantastic Four, and as such, they were bombarded by cosmic rays. However, they were bombarded by far more than the Fantastic Four, and this lead to them being different in team composition. They got a second dose which helped them control their powers a bit better.Now, the interesting angle to this is that they’re normally considered the bad guys. However, Al Ewing has suggested that Cosmic Rays are divine, while Gamma Rays are satanic. So, the “hero” is powered by evil, while the “villains” are powered by good. This leads to an interesting dichotomy and while I don’t expect Ewing to do a ton with them considering there are only 8 issues left and a lot to wrap up, I think we’ll see some interesting use of this dichotomy.Now, into the Review of the actual issue.We open up to a scene that suggests that The Leader is controlling a great many people on Earth via the green doors that he has Bruce Banner hooked into.Immortal Hulk #42 (all scans in the answer are from this issue unless otherwise specified.):This is immediately followed by Henry Gyrich reprimanding Gamma Flight for letting the Hulk escape, (despite his own failure to prevent Joe Fixit from escaping). Carl Creel is threatened and Titania nearly loses her cool which is something Gyrich would have a very hard time living through. (Though I suspect he was being controlled by Leader, which is why he was acting particularly villainous for the time being.)After his threat against Titania, Leonard Samson, in Sasquatch’s body, decides he’s had enough of the governmental control and decides to speak up. This is another instance where we see The One Below All influencing the rage of someone on Earth:He threatens to break the nearby window, killing everyone in the area in the void of space. While he would technically live, by reviving through the green door, everyone else who isn’t a gamma mutate would die. And we learn that Titania and Puck believed the bluff, but so did Samson. This is extremely out of character for him, so I can’t imagine it wasn’t The One Below All heating things up.While that’s going on, we follow Jackie McGee as she meets her new boss. A shady figure whose face we never see, but he’s a smooth talker. He takes her off writing about the Hulk, and reassigns her to writing listicles. When she gets home, she realizes someone is in her home, and it turns out to be an old friend:During these pages, we learn that Jackie McGee seems to have become a gamma mutate. In fact, everyone who was present in Georgeville Iowa when Hulk exploded during Immortal Hulk #35, seems to have become a gamma mutate in some capacity.And this makes sense, as we saw Bruce controlling a very large amount of Green Doors at the end of Immortal Hulk #39, but it was far more than the number of Gamma Mutates we know of:We know of maybe 20 some, 30 some gamma mutates, but there are at least 56 green doors pictures above, with some being hidden behind and some off panel above.Finally, we get some more action in The Below Place, as The Leader is trying to get Bruce Banner to concentrate, while Bruce is fighting his control. Brian Banner shows up to explain something to The Leader, and by the time he realizes what’s being explained, he learns something I’ve been saying all along:The Leader was playing with forces beyond his comprehension. He thought he could control and work alongside The One Below All. He thought he had figured out how to control the Green Doors, and the gamma. None of that was true.The One Below All was allowing The Leader to advance his goals, and once Sterns was no longer of any use, TOBA stepped in. Now, Samuel Sterns is simply a host for The One Below All, and we’ve got some new horrors coming our way.And finally, we see Gyrich speaking with the U-Foes, after placing the rest of Gamma Flight on leave.So, my concerns remain. I know that Ewing was very excited to put the U-Foes in, he mentioned them in a gamma gram quite a few months ago, but with only 8 issues to wrap all of this up, I have a hard time seeing how the U-Foes can have a real impact on the story. Joe and Savage Hulk still need to find Bruce and get the band back together, as it were.The One Below All is now ready and poised to come to our Universe and do whatever it is that he plans to do, last I checked it was making the multiverse empty, like himself.And now we’re throwing the U-Foes into the mix to try to stop Joe and Savage from finding Bruce and fixing things.Oh, and someone was reintroduced at the end of 41…I’m pretty sure it was Rick Jones, and we have the Jackie McGee and Dr. McGowan plotlines to finish up.And what’s going to come of Gamma Flight? They’ve been pretty integral to the story this whole time.That’s a lot of strings to tie up nicely in just 8, 30ish page issues. But, if I’m gonna have faith in any writer at Marvel to do it well, it’s Al Ewing.Overall, I liked the issue a great deal, and it continues to show that Ewing is a master of build-up while telling a good story. Let’s just hope the payoff is satisfying.7–8/10

( 3 family members killed in the raid ) The camera shows them carrying guns, ammo and equipment out of the house and laying them in a pile on the curb... The neighbors are all "SHOCKED that such a thing could be going on in their happy little community!"It get's a big rubber stamp: "Justified" from the gun controllers, and they pick their next "mark".
