Hi Everyone,I recently moved to Germany with National Visa for Work Permit.I went through lots of struggle starting from Visa Slots, Paper work and confusion about Federal Agency etc. So I would like to write down in detail everything and it might help many.Booking a Visa Appointment Slot: This was so tough. I am from Bangalore and the waiting time was 3 Months to book a Visa Slot. Make sure to book a National Visa Slot if your stay is over 6 Months and more. Enter the correct details while booking. Any slightest mismatch of data would reject the Appointment at Embassy.The Slots open up at 12.00 am German time. So it is either 3.30 am or 4.30 am in the morning for Indians. The Slots gets filled up very quickly. It might appear only for 2 minutes. One must be really quick in filling up data.Tip: Use Auto fill Extension in Chrome which also will have space for your passport number. This is very helpful and all you will have is to just type Captcha and submit.Warning: The Agent entered my passport number incorrectly. Instead of 56 he had typed 65 in hurry. Though all my other Details was entered correctly, my Appointment was rejected at Embassy. They do not accept at any cost. I had to wait for another 3 months. And I did by myself using the auto fill.Documents for Work Permit VisaFully filled 2 Application form along with two Passport photographs (This must be according to the requirements). The form is easy to Understand and fill.Valid Passport.An Employment contract stating your Position/Role and salary Details.Covering letter from the Company in Germany or Invite letter.Degree Certificates. (Carry German language certificates also if you have. This is not important )CVTravel Health Insurance. This is a must. Make sure it is valid from the date of Entry to Germany or earlier.Declaration form. This is available on the Website. Do not Forget to carry this.Demand Draft.Also please visit their Website and check the list of documents. They might update it timely.Tip: Take photocopies of These documents and make 2 sets. The Embassy will collect the photocopies and not the Originals. If you have missed photocopies do not worry, you will get time from Embassy and you can get the xerox. But People applying in Bangalore should also know that the Xerox Shops are not open early in the morning or before 10 am.The Embassy will collect Original Degree Certificate and Original passport. Do not Panic and they will return back once your Visa is decided.Confusions I had during my Visa Interview!How about proof ofaccommodation?No you Need not Show any proof of accommodation for Work Visa. But however Invite letter from the company must have some address mentioned. Like a Hotel or Friends place would do. Since the exact travel Dates wont be known it is not possible to book an accommodation. I said the Embassy that Company would book once my Visa is granted.What if there is difference in Name on the Passport and Employment contract?This could be corrected by your Employer if you notice early. My work contract had missed Surname. It was not a Problem at Embassy. I asked them at the end as I noticed this only on the day of the Visa Interview. It is Always good to ask your Questions instead of hiding. Sometimes they even give time to submit documents.Intended stay inGermanyThis is a Question in Visa application form. Many believe that if the Intended stay is more than 2 years we might not be granted Visa. No it is not true. Write whatever is there on the work contract. If you have Unlimited work Contract, just write the date of start and leave the other date blank.Pre-approval from Federal Employment AgencyThis was the part which took a lot of time for me to Understand. The Pre-approval from Federal Employment Agency will help the Visa Process Speed up. But it is not compulsory to have this before Hand. It has to be done by the Employer, if they wish to. If this process is not done the Visa grant will take up to 4–8 weeks. If you already have pre-approval Visa grant will take up to 10 days.Visa InterviewThe process is simple. Might take up to 15-20 minutes after you enter inside. The authorities will call the candidate based on the time and availability of the counters inside.The Interviewer might ask some Questions based on the Work contract and how did you find the particular Job. They will enter all the details that they collect from you into their System. And if there are any missing documents they give time to submit. So do not Panic. Make sure the Information you provide are true and accurate. The interviewer will collect the documents and take the Original Degree Certificates and passport. They will tell you the approximate date of Visa decision time. Collect the acknowledgement and Keep it safe.The Visa ProcessIf there is no pre-approval from Federal agency, the German Embassy in Bangalore will have to send the documents to officials in Germany. They will decide upon your application based on number of factors. Your Employer must answer the calls or Email from the Officials. This is very important.The Final DecisionOnce your Visa is decided you will receive mail from Embassy. It will just state“Your Visa is decided upon”This does not mean it is granted or rejected. You have to visit the Embassy and find out. You must carry the Original Acknowledgement with you along with ID. Either Aadhar or driving licence. Without ID the security did not allow People inside.Confusions I had onreceivingmy VisaThe Visa was stamped only for 6 months though I had applied for longer Duration. I stood in the counter to clarify this. They can grant only up to 6 months and we will have to extend the Visa at Foreign Office in Germany after our Arrival and before this time expires.My Name being very large after expanding my initials was a Problem too. Full Name was not printed on the Visa. They clarified saying it is only so much we could print and your full Name will be stored electronically. So do not panicAfter reaching GermanyThere are works one must complete after reaching Germany. I would list it out here.Residence Registration: You Need to visit the Residence Registration Office with Rental Agreement and a form that has to be signed by House owner or Hotel Manager. This form will be given by Owner itself if they are Aware of it or it is available in Registration Office. carry your marriage certificate if you want to Register your Family Status as married. Registration Office is available in the locality you reside, So Google it.What you receive: Registration ID. This is very important for any further actionsTax Office: With the registration ID/Letter go to the Tax Office and Show the work contract. They will make a copy of it and send the tax number by post.What you receive: Individual Tax Number. This has to be given at your work place for tax payments. This will be received by post in 2–3 days (Working days)Opening a Bank account: Carry residence Permit letter and work contract. Fill the forms and submit. You get a Partner to guide you through out. Any Questions you can contact them. The Card and other Details will be received by post.Foreign Office: For the visa Extension one must visit with all the documents.You might receive a letter from Deutsche Radio. One must pay 17 euros to this every month. However in few residence the owner Pays. So clarify this once you get from owner. You have to fill this form and post back. If you are late you end up paying late fee.

Having spent a lot of time in both countries (I’m English by the way), I think the honest answer is that the biggest difference is obviously fear.In the UK we don’t fear each other because we’re not armed and our kids don’t go on shooting sprees in schools or fear that anyone else will. It never happens and simply can’t ever happen. Yes, there is racism in Britain like everywhere but it is far less prevalent, far less obvious and far less tolerated than, in my experience, the USA. We are a very pluralist and diverse society with people from all over the world merrily living, working and inter marrying with very few problems. The UK is not paradise, but honestly there is far less tension, far less aggression, far less trouble around racial issues than in the US.We don’t fear our police service because we are “policed by consent” and we all go along with this as a good idea. The police are a “service” who provide a benefit to society as a whole rather than a “force” who compel people to conform to rigid rules. Yes we have laws and rules but our policemen and women have enormous leeway in terms of how they may or may not enforce them. Our policemen and women are almost universally not armed and apart from the odd nut-job taken down by a specialist unit very, very few UK citizens are ever shot by the police in any given year. Best figures I could find were for 2016. In that year four people were shot dead by UK police compared with 957 in the US. The population of the US is about five times that of the UK yet US police (in 2016) shot dead 239 times more people than their UK counterparts.We don’t fear our employer or losing our job because we are an EU member state and employment rights are guaranteed to all EU citizens. With or without Brexit these rights will persist. This means you can’t just be summarily fired on a whim. It also means “I’m going to need you to come in on Sunday” is an unthinkable joke idea. It means you’ll work 37.5 hours a week (and no more BY LAW). It means you must be given 5.6 weeks of fully paid holiday (vacation) every year and everybody takes them. It means as a woman you’ll get twelve months paid maternity leave and guess what - British (and pan European) business is still thriving while treating people like humans. We don’t fear losing our jobs or changing jobs because we don’t need the health insurance that came with the job (see next point)…Importantly, we don’t fear being unwell, injured or developing chronic conditions because we know (in an absolute and concrete way) that the NHS will provide free healthcare to us regardless. This, I think, is the hardest thing for Americans to truly grasp - the NHS honestly is totally FREE at the point of delivery - meaning that if you need any kind of healthcare it will just be delivered to you completely free of charge, no questions asked - for your whole life. So we don’t fear bankruptcy or having to sell our homes or having to desperately crowd fund the cost of an operation or a supply of insulin on Facebook - we just go and have the care we need delivered for free. This is broadly true across all of Western Europe.We don’t fear our government because we know that we can remove and replace it within a maximum of five (usually four) years and if any one government starts to get seriously out of hand then parliament can step in and remove it in a few days. This has happened a few times and in fact, at time of writing (Late August 2019 this looks like it’s about to happen very soon to Boris Johnson with his majority of ONE) !UPDATE - Minority Government.UPDATE - Multiple legal actions against the Gov’t in the high / Supreme court.UPDATE - Boris’s Gov’t is the least successful in history and now parliament has taken control of the agenda.UPDATE - General election on the 12th of December.So you see, we don’t and never will fear our government.We don’t fear being audited or the government stealing our money because if you have a full time job in the UK all your tax issues are dealt with by a partnership between HMRC (Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) and your employer in a system called PAYE (Pay As You Earn) and you’ll never have to fill out a tax return or any other kind of form. You can access the entire system online and see exactly what you’ve paid in tax, how much state pension you will receive on retirementetc., etc., etc., It’s all very transparent and easy. Leading to….We don’t fear a shock at the till because in the UK the price you see on the ticket, the menu, scrawled on the windscreen of a used car - whatever - it’s always the price you will pay - no arguments. There is only one “sales tax” in the UK and it’s called VAT (Value Added Tax) and the original idea was that it would apply to luxuries. Over time it has come to be applied to more or less everything except food, books, childrens’ clothes and anything second hand. Currently the tax is applied at 20% but it MUST be calculated by the vendor and applied to the ticket price, the menu price etc., So you always know the exact and real cost of anything before you get to the till - and of course, everything’s negotiable…We don’t fear our food because as an EU member state we have the highest food standards in the world and I can know absolutely that my chicken hasn't been washed in chlorine and that my beef hasn’t ever been fed on hormones or GM crops. I know that any additives or colourings that have ever been linked to health problems are illegal in the whole EU and I know that any imported food will have had to meet those same standards.Lastly - We don’t fear Eggs !Because we treat them properly instead of treating them! Just Google this one because in Europe we all fall off our chairs laughing at what you Americans do to eggs. Unless you’ve left the country, as an American, you have NEVER ACTUALLY TASTED A HEN’S EGG ! Truly, at this point I feel genuinely sorry for Americans (no irony) I really do. Imagine never having taken a good thin slice of toasted sourdough bread and dipped it into a fresh free range boiled egg. Goodness - imagine going through life without experiencing that simple exquisite pleasure.So welcome to Britain where we live without fear…Anyone fancy a pint ?
