PDF Editor FAQ

What was your ambition when you were a kid?

Well, here it goes.At the age of 6–10, I was simply dumb enough to think of these. In those days, I was comfortable with my friends, hanging around, playing all the day, getting beaten by mother, sleeping (Ohh, I love it till date). At the age of 10–15, I grew up with different Electrical and Electronics circuit (I knew about wires, positive, negative, DC, AC, Diode, Transistor etc by that time). I wrote some programs on Logo and BASIC (as a school extension program on computers). Also, I met some Army men. I was also exposed to Shaktiman and Pokemon at that time. Then I thought over two things to become, Army Officer or Engineer. Sometimes thought of becoming an artist and I tried drawing many pokemons and other stuffs. With all these experiences, I thought what life would look like after 10 years if I am a Designer, an Army and an Engineer. I found Army to be very prestigious but also thought of the consequences (like loosing body parts, burning alive, hit by bullets etc. etc.). Then I refrained myself of thinking as an Army personnel. Then I looked at Engineering, I also found this one to be very prestigious but also found that the route to it was a bit hard and clumsy. Then I thought myself as an artist. Nice, fancy stuffs, paper and charcoal, shades of different colors. Yes, I was interested but I thought of the real field and tried many things. I failed in most of them and found myself reluctant. So, you see I am finally left with none. Then all of these thoughts, I tried with some limits and calculus problems (I heard that these are the basics of engineering, may be true to a great extent). Well, I scored a very good rank on self evaluation. I found myself drawing functions on Graph Sheet and trying to find relevant tangents. I solved most of the elementary calculus problems on graph paper and the results turned to be accurate and I found a deep interest in that. Then I again thought of engineering and I found curious on Engineering, I studied hard and joined an engineering college at the age of 17 and by 18, I was exposed to C programming. This even drew me into it. I loved the way programming is done, then algorithms, then numerical methods, then networking, java. All of them I loved. Most of the college students memorized the programs while I always wrote my own. I was never good at memorizing things. So, my theoretical knowledge is very limited in that respect. My grade was not also good.Well, so that’s how I ended up being an engineer. For me, my interest became my profession, I just love to code and always learn new things (specially on mathematics and programming). After 11 years, I see myself exactly in the same place where I thought I would be at the age of 14. Its not me who achieved it, its for the characters in my life who did this. Thanks to my parents (they are the one who helped me in all aspects and funded my study), my teachers (who selflessly given their best to teach me), my friends (who always stood by me and criticized me), my wife (who always tried to help me in my path even if it was too difficult for her) and last but the most, my luck (do I need to say anything ?).

How do children deceive their parents?

I'm going to go anonymous on this one because it is a secret between me and my friend. He is the one who did this haha. When were in elementary school teachers always gave our test sheet and told us to show it to our parents and ask for our parents signature. The teachers told us to get the signature 2 days after they gave it to us or our test score will be reduced by 50%.Well, my parents were strict about scores and school stuffs. So i always tried to get a good score on every test or else. (I remember when I was late for school and the teachers didn't allow me to take the test. My dad hit me with a stick because of that)One day in 2nd grade, we had a math test. The test was very hard and almost all of the class get a score below 40, only some people managed to get 70. The teachers still told us to get our parents signature, and as you can predict my parents were furious. The next two days in recess everyone shared their story of how they managed to get their parents signature. It was horrific for us back then but it is funny now, knowing that your parents didn't beat you up anymore. Then it is my friend turn tell about his story, he got the lowest score in class. He said: "nothing, my parents didn't yell at me." Then he laughed. WOW everyone wished that their parents are like that. When we came back to the class, I sit next to him. I ask him if their parents really that nice to him. Then he told me. "Of course not, they will be angry if I show it." "Then how did you told your parents to ask for a signature?" "I never showed anything to my parents or asked signature to my parents, I sign it by myself."Turns out that from the 1st grade to 6th grade, he was the one who sign all of his test sheets. Not only his test sheets my friend also sign everything such as weekly report, field trip permission, sick leave letter, and even his report card. His parents didn't know anything. That is a very brilliant and a very dirty trick to deceive your parents and your teachers.

What would you feel like if literally everyone you know is faster and better at doing most things than you, should it bother you or should it not?

What would you feel like if literally everyone you know is faster and better at doing most things than you, should it bother you or should it not?You can’t necessarily change your feelings. If something bothers you, this is a legitimate feeling. It’s natural to feel discouraged when everyone is faster and better at doing things. I was in this situation when I was a child and teenager. To make it even worse, my mom would call attention to the fact that I fell short in so many areas. Then she’d say that she didn’t know why I had an inferiority complex, that I needed to become more self-confident. Duh!As my life progressed, I discovered that I could still succeed in things that I wanted to do even if I wasn’t the speediest or the best. My secretarial skills were valued by my bosses because, although I wasn’t speedy, I was accurate. Having a secretary who types 80 words a minute doesn’t help if the letter is full of mistakes. When I was trying to learn to swim, a swimming teacher said in exasperation, “You are going to have to develop endurance” because I’d stop in the middle of doing the crawl stroke since I felt as though I couldn’t breathe. A few years later, I was asked by a lifeguard to take a break because I’d been swimming laps for five hours. If it were possible, I would have challenged my old swimming teacher to an endurance test. I just kept practicing over the years and built up my endurance. I’m still not speedy. But who cares? I get my exercise. At 71, I don’t do five hours anymore—40 minutes is my usual. My suggestion is to try to do things where you’re not constantly aware of what others are doing. I’ve never wanted to participate in team sports. It’s nice to be able to just compete against yourself. You can practice running or swimming when you’re alone and don’t have peer pressure to affect your performance. One of the most satisfying things I’ve done in my life has been volunteering for the benefit of children at orphanages in the Philippines, a children’s hospital, a preschool, and now I’m a volunteer tutor at an elementary school. Children don’t care if you’re a klutz. They’re not evaluating you. They care about you because you make them feel good by listening to them, laughing with them, and respecting their feelings.Bowling and golf are sports that you can do as an amateur because you have a handicap that levels the field. I was never a good bowler, but I occasionally had some wonderful luck. I can’t tell you how great I felt the day I scored 190. My average at the time was 100 or less. One of the guys on my team hadn’t been paying attention to my score because he wasn’t expecting anything great. He nearly keeled over when he looked at the score sheet and saw all my strikes. I won the prize for High Game Handicap and it was thrilling.Another time I was playing tournament Scrabble in Bahrain with players who had been doing this for years. There was an 11-year-old Sri Lankan boy who was a champion and traveled to other countries. We played a preliminary game and I found out that I had scored high enough to be considered a “High Scoring Loser” and could compete in an upcoming tournament. The little boy got so excited for me, “You’re going to be our ‘high scoring loser’”! Once again, I was thrilled! It sounds cliche but all those old adages make sense—”Be yourself,” “Practice makes perfect,” and one that the entertainer Danny Thomas said to his daughter Marlo about succeeding in life, “Put horse blinders on and run your own race.” Horse blinders are used on horses so that when they’re competing in a race they don’t see the other horses and become disoriented. “Put your horse blinders on and run your own race!”
