Democracy? America? Are you serious? Ha! Don't make me laugh.A democracy is a country that allows everyone who is a citizen to vote, then acts on the result (theoretically).Everyone, and I mean everyone, of voting age gets to go to the polls. In my country, you get fined if you don't.Now, let me count the way America isn't a democracy.Doesn't allow people who have a criminal record to vote. Considering that a disproportionate number of people who have a criminal record in America are black, that is a massive blow to the integration of policies that affect black people and reforming the incarceration system. Why would you work for making the lives of ex-felons better? You're not going to lose any votes by upholding the status quo but you're definitely going to lose them by fixing the ridiculous criminal justice system you've got going there. I'm not saying that Australia's justice system is great either, but at least the people who have been in jail have a say in our democracy. It is well within the interests of our politicians to ensure that criminals are at least treated as people.In some states it is downright impossible to be able to vote if you are poor, uneducated, unable to travel or disabled due to voter suppression laws. Laws requiring you to prove who you are are onerous to the point of needing to take days off work, travel hours to get obscure documents that you haven't needed in years only to find out that because it wasn't printed on a particular type of paper your application was denied. Other examples are denial of same-day voter registration (you turned 18 the day before), closing of ballot boxes so you have to wait hours to have your say, prohibitively high costs to update drivers’ licenses (if you are earning $200 a week and you need to pay $35 to update your licence in 24 hours, that's not easy), a lack of current photo ID (very common amongst people who are poor, don't drive and look over the age of 35), disallowing student ID (which needs proof of identity to obtain)… my god, I could go on. The GOP’s Attack on Voting Rights Was the Most Under-Covered Story of 2016And it's not just non-white poor people that can't vote. Trans people have had huge problems with voting because they can't vote if their gender identity mismatches with their gender on their ID. Some states won't allow trans people to change their legal gender without reassignment surgery, which can cost thousands of dollars. Good luck getting that on a minimum wage job. Voter Suppression is an LGBT Rights Issue – Just Ask AsherWhat if you are sick or disabled? Well, if you have a guardian in the wrong state, you have no right to vote. Disabled And Fighting For The Right To Vote. Have cancer and you barely have enough time to think about how you're going to pay for your next meal due to the insanity of America's health non-system let alone the aforementioned loopholes you need to go through to get your vote registered. Yeah, you're not going to vote. Mentally ill? You could lose the right to vote and then have to go through the rigamarole to get it back. Check out the paragraph titled “Voting Rights Act” in the following link. Rights for People With Mental Illness. Try doing that while in a suicidal or schizophrenic state. In Australia, people who have dementia that has developed enough to necessitate being in a nursing home are encouraged to vote. Yes, people who can't remember the names of people that they see 5 days a week can still vote.One word: gerrymanderingTwo words: Electoral CollegeObviously, as an Australian, I am not 100% sure about the ins and outs of the American voting system but even I can see that in no way, shape or form is America a democracy. Dwight SchruteDwight Schrute in earlier seasons was an excruciatingly competitive co-worker to Jim, a total bootlicker to Michael and an overall pain in the *** for rest of the staff. His transformation went from being a jerk to caring boyfriend to a womaniser, and finally to an absolute supportive friend to Jim and Pam.3. Phyllis Vance (née Lapin)Phyllis was a quite character who was a constant victim of Michael and Angela’s arrogance. I loved how she gradually turned sassy and gave it back to Angela and Michael in later seasons. Apart from this she showed her master salesmanship in the episode “Traveling Salesmen” (S03 E13) Also she found the love of her life in Bob Vance – Vance Refrigeration. (So Yeah, Curvy women can have a Fairy Tale too)4. Meredith PalmerHonestly, I didn’t cared about her character which was mostly horny and alcoholic. But boy did she gave some hilarious gags with the bat episode, the lice episode in which she totally rocked the bald look. Also in the final season she expresses about how it was never shown that she received her Ph.D. in School Psychology during the first seven years, citing alcohol was just an escape from “College Life”. Who Knew?5. Pam BeesleyOnce upon a time Pam was just Roy Anderson’s fiancée. That’s it. I like how self-realization struck her and she started chasing her dreams- marrying the love of her life, pursuing art school, trying hand at Sales, etc. Also she turned from wallflower to a pretty woman.6. Erin (Kelly) HannonAt first look you will find nothing extra ordinary about Erin. She is a typical girl-next-door. But as show progresses, you see she has had a really tough life- being abandoned at birth, constantly changing foster homes, basic lack of real love in her life. Despite every hardship she has faced, she is amazingly optimistic about life and oh-so sweet to everyone. (Totally unrelated- watch Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, you will never regret it)She is the unacknowledged character no one talks about.7. Andy Bernard.Let’s accept this, no one liked Andy when he was introduced. He was more annoying version of Dwight. But quite honestly, over the few progressing seasons, he did became likable; especially his chemistry with Erin. But alas, the makers had something else written for this cute as a button a**hole. The overweight, dim witted accountant who was apparently very forgettable.The thing with the show is that it gave everyone a platform in which they totally steal the scene. Be it Meredith, Kelly (This day is Bananas- B-A-N-A-N-A-S) or even Kevin.In Season 9 Ep 14, Senator invites Oscar to his and Angela’s son’s birthday party, much to Angela’s discomfort. In the party both Angela and Oscar realize that Senator is using them to project his family man’s image (using Angela) and that he is immigrant friendly (using Oscar).The shining moment comes when the party ends, Kevin thanks Angela and Robert for the food, but tells Robert that he is a terrible person for using his friends to gain political support.
