Graduation Application Form: Fill & Download for Free

I don’t know how common it is (that would require counting how many such applicants there are and dividing by the total number), but the Brown graduate application form lets a student indicate that they have a significant other also applying to a graduate program at the university.I don’t think there’s a standard way this information is used. It depends on the department, the admissions chair, etc.Several comments wonder about fairness issues. Before you do, please read the following two paras:Say department X really wants to attract student A, and A has marked B as an s.o., and B has applied to department Y. Then X can contact Y and say, “Hey, we really want A, B has applied to your department, can you please look at their application carefully?” No department ever tells another department what to do, but this would make sure that B doesn’t fall through the cracks at Y (which can regrettably happen when there are hundreds of folders to deal with — e.g., B’s letters may not have come in and so the folder may not have been read; this might get someone in Y to read it and realize B is actually very good, and can try to remedy the letter situation).In return, if Y decides they won’t admit B for whatever reason, they may notify X. If X really wants to attract a student in A’s area, they may realize that their chances of getting A are now slightly diminished, and may hence admit one more student in that area. So it may actually help an applicant ranked below A!

All IIMs send an e-mail to the shortlisted candidates listing the documents that need to be produced for verification before the interview. Here is a sample of that e-mail from IIM Ahmedabad:IIM-Ahmedabad also asks the candidates to upload the scanned copies of the documents before appearing for the interview. Once a candidate reaches the interview location, these documents are physically verified.The candidates need to produce a set of original documents as well as photocopied. First of all, the scores mentioned in the application form are verified against the original documents and then, the original documents are verified against the photocopied set.The most amount of emphasis is laid on the CAT scorecard, 10th mark sheet, 12th mark sheet, graduation mark sheet, grade conversion certificate and salary slips (for work experience). The certificates of extra-curricular and co-curricular achievements are not prioritized during verification.Each IIM mentions the criteria for extra-curricular and co-curricular in the application form. Based on what all achievements make it to the application form, different IIMs ask for certificates/proofs to validate them. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, and IIM CAP did a thorough check of the certificates. IIM Indore checked the top 3 and the rest didn’t ask during my time (2018).If any of the achievements have digital proof, it is suggested that a print-out is taken along as the staff members don’t have a desktop to confirm the same. In case any of the numbers in the application form have a discrepancy with the original documents, the institute expects the candidate to send an e-mail mentioning the discrepancy any time prior to the interview. This happened during the IIM A interview in Bangalore. We are standing in the hotel floor lobby waiting to be called for our interview. The power had gone out but returned shortly. Being in business suits (very formal suits and a tie!) made me quite sweaty before I entered the room. Inside the room the AC had stopped working despite the power being back on. When I went inside I could see the professors using the application forms to fan themselves. They were quite irritated and started the interview in quite a negative mode asking questions about civil engineering that I didn't know (I was a civil engineer but was working with a consulting company after engineering and didn't remember anything about it).Predictably the interview went badly, and I was getting desperate and more sweaty. Suddenly, for no rational reason I asked the professors if the AC was working and they looked at the AC quite sadly. I got up and tried switching it on and off and it started to work and the room began to cool. In that one instant the entire tone of the interview changed. I was asked much easier questions and when I didn't know the answer they would tell "not to worry, it's alright" and made me feel more comfortable.Long story short, I got in to the place and have graduated since!
