PDF Editor FAQ

What happens if I make any mistakes when balancing my checkbook? Such as if I forgot to input a transaction or mistakenly put any out of order or incorrectly put how much was paid in a transaction & the balance is inaccurate? Are there consequences?

Of course there are consequences! You cannot answer the most important question of your life while making purchase decisions! Which is:Can I afford to buy this thing? To know the answer, you must have an accurate balance. If you have more than enough, then you can at least decide to buy it, if it brings enough value to your life. Otherwise, no matter how much perceived value it may have to you, you cannot afford it at this time.Okay, so we all make mistakes. Let’s see how to fix them and get on with our lives.Problem #1: You put a transaction in out of order. This is not a problem. It just makes it a tiny bit more difficult to balance at the end of the statement period, as you might have to search a bit for the out of sequence transaction. When you realize that you forgot to enter an automatic or recurring transaction, (or any other, for that matter), simply make an entry as soon as you realize that you made an error. Put in the correct date, and the check or the transaction number, so you can easily note that it is out of sequence, and find it more rapidly later. The sooner that you correct this type of error, the closer the entry will be to where you would normally expect to find it. Thus, the less time that you will spend flipping through pages, wondering where in the heck that transaction got to. This wasted time can add up, so correct the error as soon as possible.Problem #2: You entered the amount that was paid by the financial institution incorrectly. This should never happen. You always double check your receipt for the correct amount. You save every receipt at the time of purchase in the correct checkbook cover for that account for later reference. For instance, you have cash on hand, which requires its own checkbook register, and for which you will never get printed statements, you just balance every night before going to bed. If your cash doesn’t match the balance shown in the register, then you get to burn the midnight oil until you eventually recall your mistake. To save endless grief, I carry a small 3”x4” notebook, with pages that can be torn out without destroying the ability of the rest of the pages to stay intact, ($0.78 UPC code: 0 26229 76025 9, one of the few products made in India that I can state is absolutely excellent in quality! Way to go guys!), and which I use to make my OWN receipts for those times where you will not get a receipt. Such as at water and other vending machines, most laundromats, and so on. Tear out the completed page, and put it with the rest of your receipts paid for with cash. You obviously have a personal checking account. So, you will have a checkbook register and cover for your personal expenses paid with your debit card. You might have a business, which means that you MUST separate your personal and business purchases. So, another checkbook register and cover for each business that you own. Gets complicated fast, doesn’t it?Now, how to correct the error that you made by putting in the incorrect amount? You make a small reminder note where you made the mistake. Then, using the next available space in the register, you write out a full explanation of what happened. In that explanation, you refer back to the transaction number or check number where you made the mistake, so that both entries refer to each other. Here is a sample:Ck. 1234 Chippewa Power Company ugggh, can’t format Quora! Yikes! This may have to wait, while I figure out a solution… Drat!Anyway, sorry about that. A written explanation won’t make much sense without an example to view. The entry that you make later says:*1247 Error correction. See Ck. 1234 $0.02 (for an entry that was 2 cents less that what was paid by the financial institution.)2020Oct06 Entered in amount incorrectly.Ck. 1248 Whole Foods $94.23 (next item in register)2020Oct12 GroceriesYou then add (or subtract) the amount necessary to bring your register back into reality for that one error.Problem #3: You make one or more math errors.Rather than scribbling over each line of your checkbook register with a “corrected” balance, just make a note of the error, like in the example above, and correct the entry later. The first time that you have to make TWO or more passes through your checkbook register fixing “additional mistakes” will prove that it is cleaner, and more readable, to make error correction entries later, where you adjust the balance as is needed. If you made multiple errors, just make an entry for one error, and list all the individual amounts on the explanation line.*1256 Error corrections. $12.42See Ck. 1249 $10.00 math error, see Ck. 1251 $2.00 math error, see Ck. 1254 $0.42 wrong amount.Once you have a balance that is in compliance with your account statement, write a note to that effect where you once again matched up with the financial institution:Ck. 1269 First Bank Of Boston $226.41Car payment. Balance here.In this way, you won’t have to check any further back in your register for errors, as you have caught them all up to this point. A handy way to reduce your work later on for new statement periods.Hopefully, I will figure out a way to format my “checkbook register” entries so it works properly for you to view correctly. If not, my apologies in advance!

Should I be concerned that my autistic 17 year old daughter still has the maturity of a 13 year old girl? My kid has always been a few years behind her typical peers. However, it’s just that she’ll be a legal adult next year.

Dear god, I just looked back and I talk too much. I’m very sorry for the long response.I’m a couple years ahead of you here. While she was growing up, that was always a dilemma. Do I buy “age appropriate” toys, or do I buy what she likes? Then I thought about that. What if I said ‘gender appropriate’ instead? Well, that sounds stupid now.It did seem like she matured a lot the last couple years. My daughter, just like any ‘legal aged’ teen, likes to throw that in my face occasionally. “But I’m a legal adult, I can do whatever I want”. Ehhh, sort of. You are a legal adult. The definition of that is “An adult is a person who has attained the age of majority. The age of majority is the legally defined age at which a person is considered an adult, with all the attendant rights and responsibilities of adulthood. The age of majority is defined by state laws, which vary by state, but is 18 in most states.”Rights. and RESPONSIBILITIES.Of more concern than what she wants to have the freedom to do without your consent, is all the things you do for her that you will no longer be legally allowed to do. Like call in her medication refills. Or talk with her teachers. Or make her doctor and dentist appointments. Or tell her therapist about the latest concerns, or give feedback on a new medication. Suddenly, they will say that they can’t talk to you about her anymore. I’ve always thought this was stupid - they don’t suddenly know how to do these things just because the calendar flipped over to another day.If you get her declared incapable of making decisions for herself and you as her legal guardian, that also takes away her right to vote. And getting that reversed is near impossible, so I wouldn’t go that route unless she’s very severely autistic. You CAN have her get a medical power of attorney for you. It’s a legal document signed by her that says she is allowing you to deal with her doctors and medical needs for her. She can revoke that in part or in full at any time. Give a copy to her doctors, dentist and pharmacy.Mine keeps saying she wants to move out and live with friends. On what money?, we ask. We downloaded a sample budget for a one bedroom apartment, utilities, etc. We downloaded a sample grocery budget for one person. We had her do the math - to afford to move out, I’d need this much money a month. Wow.Teens seem to think we’re “keeping” them from something. I mean, aside from living on the street! We started with explaining what sorts of responsibilities we have as adults living on our own, having a home, a car, a pet, and a job to afford these things. What is insurance, how does it work? If you haven’t yet, set up a joint bank account with her, give her a debit card for it. Put some money into it every month, and teach her how to use it. And have her keep a checkbook register of her spending. Maybe even create a fake checkbook, and a fake account and have her do bills when you do. “You make $X a month, lets write that in as a deposit.” and whenever you get a bill for stuff - cell phone, electric, water, etc, have her deduct an amount from her fake account and write a fake check for it. Look up online what average rent and utilities for a 1 bedroom place are in your area and use those numbers. If she forgets, well, that could be interesting! “Oh no, you forgot to pay your electric bill, and they turned it off! It will cost $75 to get it turned back on, plus what you owed for last month, plus the $35 late fee! They can’t come out until next Thursday to turn it back on, so you have no hot water, no heat, and no hot food until then. Oh, and half the food in your fridge will spoil by tomorrow!” Then deduct all that from the fake account and let her see costly that is.Write down all the steps to calling in a medication refill, and have her start doing her own, under your supervision. If you haven’t yet, get her a state ID, which is through the DMV, but not a drivers license.Explain that this is the time when she is learning to do the things she needs to do to be able to live on her own. While she’s safe at home. Where making a mistake with her bills won’t get her evicted. That she can go to college or a voc tech program so she can learn a skill good enough to be able to afford to live on her own, and also learn from you HOW to do that.

What I like most about this software is the possibility of using it online, without the need to download the software, because I use several computers and sometimes it is complicated to have to download them all, with the option of online use is much more functional.
