This has now become a miniature version of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, where more than 3500 people were killed by a deadly, poisonous gas named MIC: Methyl Iso Cyanate.Here in this tragedy, similarly, a toxic gas named Styrene was reported to leak from a chemical plant. The chemical plant, more precisely LG Polymers industry at RR Venkatapuram near the Naiduthota area close to Gopalapatnam, was being reopened for the first time after the government lowered strictness of lockdown.The total affected area according to various report looks like this:What is Styrene and why is it so dangerous?Styrene, a synthetic chemical, known as ethenylbenzene, vinylbenzene, and phenylethene, is an organic compound . Styrene is commonly used in the manufacture of plastic products used in many things like food packaging, rubber, plastic, insulation, fiberglass, pipes and automobile parts etc.Styrene gas, leaked from LG Polymers has killed at least ten people meanwhile more than five thousand people are reported to be affected until now and created panic in several areas of Visakhapatnam.Styrene is primarily used in the production of polystyrene plastics and resins. The harmful effects of Styrene include severe irritation to eyes, mucous membranes & gastrointestinal effects. Continous exposure to styrene leads to effects on the central nervous system (CNS), such as headache, , CSN dysfunction, hearing loss, and peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, weakness, and depressioneven cancer.How it affected its surrounding?The effect of the gas leakage was felt even around Santhoshnagar and surrounding areas. Residents here complained of breathlessness, vomiting and a few even fell unconscious and many more severe health issues. Around 6 am police came to these localities and asked the residents to vacate their houses. Many of them went to distant localities like Muralinagar and are stranded there on roads. While a few went to their friends' or relatives' places in other parts of the city.Around 10 people have died and more than 5000 people are sick due to this incident; people are seen, dying,in the streets, they are getting unconscious, animals are dying. In a video, a girl is seen getting unconscious while standing and falling on the ground; a mother with her child is seen lying in street, unconsciously; some people are also seen falling in drains and beside roads. These shocking pictures depict how normal life got suddenly vandalized by this chemical plant tragedy.Question: Whats next? What about the girl? What about those families who were completely unaware that this incident may ever happen? This brought causality to these families all of a sudden just like the snap in ‘Endgame’.Whose fault is this? Is it the government or the authority of the chemical plant, situated in the dense area, who failed to provide security of life, regardless of the fact that there could have been such a scenario?Authorities of the chemical plants pleaded their innocence by saying it an accident, they also added that they were unaware of the fact that this leakage may happen while reopening the plant after a long time.Lastly the picture of the leakage shared in various reports:
