Our daughter is adopted.We were in the hospital during her birth, but not in the delivery room.The hospital allowed us to meet her for about 10 - 12 minutes, then we had to leave since the biological mother had not yet signed the adoption agreement.After just meeting our brand new baby, I felt the need to do something motherly.I decided to go shopping and buy a few (or a lot lol) of baby clothes and such.As we were standing in line to make the purchase, the cashier commented about all the stuff we were buying.I told her that our baby had just been born, not thinking that it would sound like I had given birth.The cashier reached over and rubbed my hand and said, “Don’t worry honey, you’ll lose the baby (pregnancy) weight in no time)!I weighed all of 112 pounds at 5’4”.Definitely not fat.I did not say anything back to her.

I rehomed my dog. The new owners said I can visit him whenever I want to see him. Is 5 days later too soon?First, they were being nice. They were not really expecting you to stop by on any random day without calling (i.e. “whenever I want”). Or to visit at all. Ever.Second, if you gave your dog up through a rescue or shelter, the rescue or shelter might have rules about disrupting the dogs’ new life. Check the surrender agreement and adoption agreement.If you have an informal agreement with the new owner(s) - no shelter or rescue adoption contract - then the new owner is an idiot because you could randomly demand your dog back claiming you just asked them to take care of your dog for a while.Most adoption contracts indicate you have 3 business days from surrender to change your mind. After that 3 business days is past you have no legal right or privilege to be anywhere near the dog. You’re just another person on the street.When I’m asked to foster a new rescue, for example, I do not tell anyone I have the dog for those 3 business days. Once the 3 business days is past, I can post pictures and let friends and family know about my new foster. The rescue is responsible for advertising when the dog is available for adoption, which might be a few days, weeks or even months after those 3 business days.Third, if you gave the dog up then you should never visit the dog because it will confuse the dog and delay settling in, training, confidence, etc. The new owners will have all sorts of behavioral issues to deal with given the confusion.

Superman adopts Jimmy Olsen and then abuses the hell out of him. Seriously,Superman adopts Jimmy for a free thirty day trial, which is totally a thing. At first Jimmy is super jacked. He never had a father, and now he has a Super Dad! Yay!But things go south fast. Superman gives Jimmy a laser gun, then bans him from the Fortress for playing with it. He orders his son around and insults him. Then he ignores him. He won’t take Jimmy on adventures anymore. He undermines Jimmy’s career. Superman takes Jimmy’s signal watch away. Superman is an absentee father!It gets worse. Superman dumps guilt on Jimmy, blaming him for things he didn’t do. Jimmy has a special Father’s Day gift custom made for his dad. Superman calls it crap, berates his son, and burns his present in front of him!But there was a real good reason for this Super dickery. See, Superman had a Super Disaster Predictor in the Fortress that activated when Jimmy fired his laser gun. The machine predicted that “Superman will destroy his son at the end of the month”. So Superman wanted Jimmy to void the adoption agreement and not be his son anymore. Of course.Turns out it was all a big misunderstanding. It wasn’t Superman’s Son he was fated to destroy, it was “Superman’s SUN” Oohh. See, Superman created a solar system for a bunch of space homeless, but the sun has burned out and turned into rock somehow. So, he destroys the sun, fulfilling the prophecy, grabs a nice new sun and everything is just fine.Couldn’t Superman have told Jimmy about the prophecy in the first place, without the mind games? “Sorry Jimmy, I can’t be your dad because the machine says I’ll kill you”
