Why is it so hard to get my child tested for special education, because her test scores are too high?

Do you live do you live in the United States? If you do, as the parent you have a right to request an evaluation for special education under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act. When they receive your written parent referral a team will meet and determine if there is evidence to go forward with a full battery of assessments. This team will consist of you and at least one of her teachers, a special educator, and an administrator. In Most states the team will also try interventions in her classroom at the same time to see if those will help without special education. A principal and the teacher cannot unilaterally deny your child an assessment without going through some sort of child study team process. Put your request in writing stating that you would like to have your child evaluated for special education in the area of literacy specifically reading and writing and hearing impairment. Send your letter also to your District or County Special Education director. The need for hearing aid alone is not special education but may qualify your child for a 504 plan with accommodations and modifications. Being a poor speller also does not necessarily indicate the presence of a disability. The team must find that your child has one of the qualifying disabilities for special education, that the disability has a negative or adverse impact on her learning, and whether that will require specially-designed instruction. They will have to have evidence in the form of testing, observations, medical documentation, work samples, intellectual and educational assessments etc. before they can answer yes to all three of these questions

Do employers discriminate against those who graduate from religious universities?

Some, but not very many. Let me take this question from the employer side and the employee side.On the employer side, this usually takes the form of religious discrimination. The reasoning is usually something along the lines of, "we don't want people to bring religious symbols to work, because they may be off putting to people of another. So, we need to find a way to screen out people who might do this, because once we hire someone, it's illegal to ask that person to leave symbols at home." Let's say that someone comes in for an interview, dressed in a way a to indicate a religious preference. The company is required to begin a deliberative process for a religious accommodation even if none is requested by the applicant.Perhaps unsurprisingly, anti-discrimination laws make it hard to discriminate. However, one of the easier ways to go about this is in simple non-selection cases of not calling someone for an interview if it appears that the applicant will display a religious preference. So, the questioner has isolated a seemingly easy way to discriminate without being caught. On the employer side, a perhaps too clever by half solution is with a diversity policy question requiring a narrative on the part of the applicant. Here's a sample that the California Community College system uses, "Demonstrate clear evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students."The ironic thing is that the same kind of interrogatory is used by religious institutions to discriminate against those who have non-conforming beliefs (see note 54 and the accompanying text). Depending on the role of the person being hired, that may be legal. That background shows that 1) this kind of discrimination exists and 2) both religious and secular institutions do it. Turning to the employee side of things, all religions are discriminated against when made apparent to the employer, though, maybe surprisingly, pagans fared best. This leaves the question of how to control for the name of the university in the absence of other factors, and the literature is lacking here.I would recommend (if applying for secular employment), to include a diversity statement in your cover letter that aligns with the diversity policy of the potential employer if it has one. Something as simple as, "My prior work at [whenever] gave me a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, religious and ethnic backgrounds of [whoever the customer is]." Something on that line should counter signal.Good luck.
