PDF Editor FAQ

Why do you require a scholarship?

A lot actually. I explained it all on my scholarship applications:Lucy Church scholarshipAs the accompanist of NOVA Family Church since 2013, I have learned what consistency means. I worked at Dollar Tree from May 2017 – October 2017, then from November 13th, 2019 until March 7th, 2019. I learned how to sell our products efficiently, while maintaining the appearance of our store through recovery of merchandise. I hope to be involved in honor societies, as I was accepted into Tau Sigma and Delta Alpha Pi. I am continuing to be involved in the Potomac Community Library’s Third Thursday Thrillers. I just recently read Layover, a book (by David Bell) about a man named Joshua Fields who falls in love with Morgan Reynolds/Woodward, who is the killer of the TechGreen owner. I am continuing my mental health regimen of taking my medication and going to a psychiatrist, and soon I’ll be doing case management. I really just want to focus on my courses this year, since I feel behind due to the 2 gap years I took (first due to church study abroad programs, then because of hospitalizations). I really want to be prepared to become a high school English teacher. I always admired my teachers, growing up. And to think, now that I’m a junior, I’m one step closer to actualizing that goal.2. Riley scholarshipI am now diagnosed as catatonic schizophrenia; it was previously bipolar I. I have seen 5 therapists and 4 psychologists. I have been hospitalized 5 times. Yet, I still managed to work part-time and finish community college. Taking care of my mental health alongside my academic activities helped me excel. I could visualize my progress and organize my time. (I didn’t have a good phone then or an agenda.) My disability doesn’t affect my interactions on a colossal scale. I can be too inquisitive and solicitous on dating apps (I normally hit on the really good-looking guys). Paying for therapy won’t be too difficult since I qualify for a 100% discount.I still continue to volunteer, as demonstrated by my resume. I had to take 2 gap years due to my disability. Now, however, I see I have a lot of ground to cover at Mason. Still, doing advising will definitely help me. Appointments in general are good for focusing. I still want to have time for my classes, and I still only want to go to Mason 2 days a week. (I hope that’s achievable.) I hope to form healthy relationships (romantic ones through the Specudate app) at Mason.3. Mary’s Homelessness scholarshipI had been receiving therapy, occupational therapy, nursing advice, and doctor advice starting in February 2017 through August 2018. That was at the Ferlazzo building in Woodbridge, VA. Then I continued with Phoenix counseling in February 2019 until December 2019. That resembled to me homelessness help by providing me with tools on how to be socially successful, morally apt, and confidently myself. I am going to do case management this year starting 3/5/2020. We ascertained that I passed the screening. We also determined billing. My assessment went well, and my first actual appointment is on April 16th.I also volunteer through Potomac Community Library with the third Thursday thrillers. I have written summary reports of characters, plots, and exciting points on 8 books so far. I’ve read 12 though so far. I cataloged 10 hours for 2019. Literacy is so important, and that directly affects homeless people’s abilities to find employment. I cataloged 262 hours of my being the accompanist for the Northern Virginia Family Church in our Silver King Ct. location in Fairfax, VA. Church builds people’s characters. Thus, homeless people would benefit from having that sort of community presence throughout their lives. Sometimes, abuse is an issue with homeless people; their parents or siblings weren’t nice to them. So instead having that church intervention is better suited to their needs.I cataloged 8 hours of community service through leaf raking in Fairfax, VA. We got food donations for our service. We support a different cause annually. One time was for veterans. I also participate in Patriot Pantry, where I do appointments and receive hygiene items. I finally cataloged 2 hours of community service at Baltimore’s Rehoboth Church on 11/9/19. We did a city clean up. Baltimore, like D.C., has its share of homeless people. I’m so grateful to have given back to MD’s community. With all my efforts, I hope what I learned through Key Club keeps me going, knowing that the homeless are not a separate category of people; rather, they’re the unkempt potentialities.I applied for about 15 so far.
