I see that all the above answers refer to the boys hostel. And I totally agree they have the best hostels anyone could ever ask for. Even the first year boys get a single room with an attached balcony, like seriously?The first year girls get a room with a roommate. But then the girls' hostels at NIT Jsr are marvels in themselves.With a flood lit basketball court, tennis court (though we don't have tennis racquets) and badminton court, it is quite a majestic compound. The terrace view (only on the west) from AH and RLB are breathtaking both early in the morning and in the evening. And most importantly it is only a 100 steps from Sudha, Computer Center, Main Academic Building and of course the NIT store.Enough of exterior description, now coming to the “hostel life”- it is more interesting than I had ever dreamt it to be. Even though its hardly been two months all of us have settled and it feels like years have past.Midnight talks are very common on subjects of wide vareity- literally anything and everything under the sun. And sometimes just sheer nonsense. It is during these talks that you realise that each one has a different set of interests.Mess is the place where half of the major fun takes place. We have discussions, criticise the teachers and the grading system, curse surprise tests all this amidst “enjoying” the mess food.You can knock any door at any hour for anything- even for clarifying a stupid doubt or for borrowing a safety pin. Some of us intentionally do this to disturb the sound sleepers.We play football in the corridors with stolen sandals and slipppers. And laugh like idiots at the person trying hard to get them back.We console our crying friends (yes,I agree girls cry too much sometimes) or just-sad friends, and if they are inconsolable we cry with them.Shoes,socks,tops,earrings, laptop, headphones, USB,shampoo - you can borrow anything you need, for as long as you want, until the lender “reminds” you for the hundredth time.Some nights we play Dumb-c or Antakshri on the terrace or just gaze at the stars with soft music.You will never be bored. Period.There will always be someone who likes to dance or sing or mimic or act or tell jokes and shayari or simply entertain you by being the way they are.And the best part-the never ending birthday parties. Each month we have a minimum of 3 birty parties. That excitement of hiding the cake and cold drinks, the shout at exactly 12:00,beating the b'day girl till she begs you to stop,playing holi with the icing on the cake and then the selfie and dancing sessions- ah! The fun.Also you automatically get care takers when you begin your hostel life. There's always someone to give you medicine, bring hot water,bring your food to your room or simply asking you,”Are you feeling better ?“.I know there is nothing special here,all hostellers enjoy these,but then you won't miss out on any hostel fun here at NIT Jamshedpur,this I can guarantee.
