As far as I’m aware, it’s not necessarily women that are given favor in divorces, but rather mothers.Divorce laws primarily begin to favor women when children are also in the picture, because (and it varies from state to state, as some other answers have clearly demonstrated) mothers are more often than not to obtain custody of the children unless the father can provide evidence that the mother is unfit as a parent. In the case of unborn children particularly, women are 100% in control. Unlike mothers, fathers have absolutely no control over whether or not the mother chooses to get an abortion or not, and if the parents are unwed (say they get a divorce before the mother gives birth), then she automatically has custody while the father is required to establish paternity before he’s allowed access as a parent to his child. Worse yet, if mothers don’t inform the father (which isn’t illegal for some reason), then in cases of adoption, fathers whom are unaware of the existence of their children more often than not find that the courts don’t allow them to later object to/prevent the child's adoption.Additionally, there are a few social biases that allegedly come to light in the courtroom (such as the false presumption that women don’t/can’t abuse men), but of course there’s no written law that states “the judge shall show bias to the woman over the man in a [typical heterosexual] divorce.” I can say that certain statistics do show evidence that this is oftentimes what happens, though, so take that for what you will.

My sons grandfather is retired Navy. When he was in the Navy his wife was pregnant and began bleeding profusely. He brought her to the Naval hospital and they said they wouldn't touch her because it would be an “abortion.” She bled more, and more, and finally they agreed to help her. She later fully miscarried and they gave her a D&C.I’m pro-choice because I'm tired of watching people almost die in this day and age because people don't want to help each other. I'm Pro-choice because in certain states rapists can get custody of the child conceived through rape. I'm pro-choice because it seems people only care about the unborn child because once they're born you hear “You should have waited. You shouldn't have had kids if you can't afford them.” Yet people are forced to have children. I'm pro-choice because people like me can die just from being pregnant because I am so small. I am pro-choice, not because I'm “pro-abortion” no, I’m pro-choice because I believe that an abortion is a medical procedure just like anything else. That it should happen between the privacy of a patient and a doctor.I am pro-choice because of a bill passed in Texas where if you have an abortion or miscarriage you have to have some sort of “burial or cremation” for them. I'm Pro-choice because people shame women who have spontaneous abortions, which means a MISCARRIAGE. I am pro-choice because I've seen our adoption centers and I've seen the children inside. I've seen my friends age out of the system and how messed up they are from going between homes and being abused. I am pro-choice because sometimes things happen that we can't control and we need medical abortions. I am pro-choice because I see both sides of the argument and I could have died in child birth. I am pro-choice because until we treat live children as well as we treat the unborn I will always be pro-choice. I see it as more of a “pro-birth” than a pro-life movement, honestly. Because once they are born people don't want to help them. “Cut food stamps! Cut Medicaid! Cut WIC! If they wanted a better life they shouldn't have opened their legs!”I am pro-choice because I am sick of people using sex as a threat. I'm pro-choice because our sex education SUCKS. My school didn't even have a sex ed program. I am pro-choice because why do we have the right to interfere in someone's right of privacy? I am pro-choice because rapists spend a laughable amount of time in jail if they spend any at all. If a father who rapes his own daughter multiple times only spends 43 days in jail after a 17 day credit why would some random guy who rapes someone spend anymore? Montana man admits to raping 12-year-old daughter; gets 60 days in jailI'm pro-choice because I've seen the effects of forced birth first hand. I've seen how damaged our adoption system is and how much harm it can cause. Because I'm sick of people getting told they shouldn't have had sex when they didn't want to. I'm pro-choice because I have seen people almost die and hospitals not wanting to help. That is why I am Pro-choice. Because apparently you can't have sex without wanting a child, sorry every married couple ever! Because people don't realize CONDOMS DO FAIL. Because people don't realize BIRTH CONTROL ALSO CAN FAIL. I'm pro-choice because I'm tired of hearing the same one sided arguments that are hypocritical because after the birth the child means nothing to them. I am pro-choice for all of these reasons and more.

Unfortunately this is a subject that has become a litmus test for “conservative” versus “liberal” mindsets, which it DOESN’T HAVE TO BE. Too many people only see the glass as half full or half empty on this sensitive issue and are so emotional about the whole thing and so flat out “pro life” or “pro choice” that they can’t even CONCEIVE that reasonable compromises that accommodate BOTH positions are PERFECTLY POSSIBLE. There ARE halfway approaches that can support BOTH unborn children AND a woman’s reproductive rights.Abortion on demand CAN be regulated, as ALL MEDICAL PROCEDURES ARE.You can:1- Require OBJECTIVE AND IMPARTIAL but MANDATORY orientation on the risks of abortion in order to GUARANTEE AN INFORMED OPINION ON THE WOMAN’S PART.2- You can order MANDATORY orientation on ALTERNATIVES to abortion, such as adoption or renunciation of the mother’s legal custody over the unborn child if the pregnancy is taken to its full term.I personally would even allow churches and private organizations to offer cash inducements to encourage women to carry their pregnancies to term and THEN give up the child for adoption or foster placement; I realize there is a potential to abuse such inducements but the potential benefits of such a program far outweigh the potential risks, in my opinion.ONCE the orientations outlined in (1) and (2) above are followed, THEN YOU HAVE TO RESPECT THE WOMAN’S ULTIMATE DECISION because it is ultimately HER CHOICE, there are no two ways about that.I realize this type of “middle of the road approach” is not to everybody’s liking but it’s the only way in my view of finding some middle ground concerning this contentious and hyper emotional issue.
