What happens in case the brakes of a passenger train fail?

Here break fails means break was applied but had no effect on the speed of the train, that may be called as brakes fail of a running train.Let's try to understand in simple words how brakes are applied in train including Loco? Train brake is applied through air pressure. Two compressors build this pressure. This pressure stores in four main reservoirs. In the main reservoirs, the pressure maintains at 8.5 kg to 10.5 kg through pressure relay. It starts and stops the compressors.A BP ( Brake Pipe) is distributed throughout the train. BP charges through A9 valve from the Locomotive driving cab. BP pressure is maintained at 5 kg/cm^2. In this position, brakes are released. When pressure drop brakes are applied. Here is a pic of three main parts of a wagon in connection with brakes application.Auxiliary Reservoir(AR), DV(Distributor valve) and brake cylinder. DV balance in 5 kg pressure of BP pipe. At this situation, brakes are released. Here is a picture when the brake cylinder piston is in position and brakes release. When BP pressure is dropped by Loco pilot or by any reason with certain dropping rate, DV gets unbalanced and pressure goes to brake cylinder from Auxiliary Reservoir through unbalanced DV. The piston comes out from cylinder and through a mechanical arrangement, brakes applied on the wheel. Here is a picture of applied brake cylinder when the piston gets out from the cylinder. Finally, breaks apply through a mechanical connecting system. With the adhesion of Brake shoe on wheels, it produces frictional force and thus reduces the speed of the train. Here is a picture of break shoes with a wheel. Now by it is clear that by any means pressure drops in BP, brakes must apply on wheels.Brakes may be not applied after pressure drops in one condition if there is a problem in mechanical arrangements of the brake application system. So far my knowledge It is practically impossible. An MV 5, a brake power certificate issued for every train after a throughout mechanical checking by experts of each wagon of a train.Loco pilot and guard of all train must do a continuity test after taking charge of any train before departure. Loco pilot drop pressure from his loco and guard of his train acknowledge that. Now Guard of the train drop pressure from guard brake van and Loco Pilot acknowledge that. It ensures the continuity of BP pressure throughout the train.Another safety precaution is taken during continue test. ALP will check first 10 coaches ensure about brakes application and the guard will check the 10 coaches from his side to ensure about brake application physically.Next on run Loco pilot apply brakes at starting after reaching a minimum speed to get confirmation of brake application of his train. It also ensure that brakes applies on wheels. So far my knowledge mechanical failure cannot take place at a time with all the wagons or coaches of a train. Thus as per my knowledge, there is practically no chance of brake failure in a running train.Images source Google. Thanks for reading my answer.Subhasis ✍️😊

What should I do after eating an unhealthy meal?

It’s absolutely fine if you had more calories than you planned with that ‘unhealthy’ meal.Who says you have to be perfect 100% of the time?100 percent and 0 are not the only percentages available to you. I’d rather have my clients be 80% perfect 100% of the time.Understand that one day or one meal of overdosing on Ben & Jerry’s or missing a workout isn’t going to ruin your progress. It will set you back a bit, but it’s not going to undo months of work if you’ve been trying to lose weight.Failure is never fatal. It’s what you do next that matters. And here’s what you do when you deviate from your diet/training:Acknowledge it.Get okay with it.Get back on track with your next ‘healthy’ meal. You don’t have to punish yourself by doing yawn-provoking cardio to ‘burn off’ calories you’ve consumed. You just go right back on track and make your next meal ‘healthy’.Never miss twice.Remember that you’re always just one meal or workout away from making better choices. If you want to have an easier and more enjoyable time achieving your health & fitness goals, get in touch with me via Instagram.

What is the best thing that has ever happened to you for being nice?

About 10 years ago I was on a BART train in San Francisco coming home from work. I never talked to anyone on the train and the atmosphere is always a bit surreal to me as we are being moved like cattle while everyone is wholly ignoring the world around us and each other.I was unable to procure a seat, so I was standing with my back against the end of the car. I was reading my investment research (I was a West Coast Wall Street type) while my attention was caught by a group of three young people who were perhaps 18, but were fully grown men and clearly strong and athletic. There was a nerdy-looking man, looking like an accountant from central casting, who was perhaps 50 years old, sitting in a seat about 10 feet away a from me minding his own business and reading the paper. These three guys boarded the train and began loudly and aggressively verbally attacking this man while standing about 1 foot away from him for everything about him — being bald, overweight, and a stream of unending other insults that got more and more personal and degrading as they picked up steam. I watched the entire train of about 80 people stare at the their papers and act like this wasn't happening.A little background — I am a 5′6″ stereotypical Jewish guy. I have never thrown a punch in my life — I don't know how to, nor do I believe in violence as a way of settling things. I am, essentially, a big chicken. There aren't many things that scare me more than a group of young people who look like they have nothing to lose and are demonstrating a total lack of basic human respect. These guys are egging each other on to “one - up” whatever previous nastiness they had been saying.I watched this for a couple minutes (which is a really, really long time in this situation) and became sickened by the crowd, none of whom so much as looked up at this poor, frightened and I have to assume embarrassed man, as they were tearing at every aspect of his being, loud enough for the entire train car to hear.Something in me snapped. I yelled to them so that my entire half of the train car could hear:“Hey big shots — why don't you direct your insults at me? You have a lot of material to play with — I am short. I have a pot belly, I have a huge nose. I am not good looking. I am a little Jew. Why don't you direct your not so witty remarks in my direction and leave him alone? They stopped in their tracks, shocked by my intervention (I was shocked at my intervention as well I think). They clearly did not know what to do and all looked at each other. For a moment I thought they were going to jump me and from my experience watching these other people in the car I had no expectation that I would receive assistance if in fact they did. After what seemed like an eternity, they looked at each and said “man, he is crazy” and walked to the other end of the car. What was my reward? There was none, externally. Neither the man who was under attack nor anyone else on the train acknowledged what had happened in any way (nor was I expecting them to). In fact, I beat myself up for a week for taking a risk to my safety and to this day don't know whether what I did was smart. ( BART has no security on the train most of the time ) That said, I have always viewed myself as an exceptionally “good” person. I was very successful in business and have helped dozens of people in need financially, often in ways that permanently changed their lives. However, there was an aspect of my "generosity" that gnawed at me. I was not particularly proud of helping these people as I could easily afford it and therefore giving was not much of a sacrifice for me. This might've been the first time in my life that I made a true sacrifice for someone I did not know, risking the thing that I value most, which is my safety. So now I get to believe my own bullshit and it felt good!Kindness is its own reward.
