Related to that is the fact that there are different definitions of racism.My wife is of Portuguese ancestry and has an “ethnic” appearance. As a result of that, over the past twenty-five years her black-coworkers have told her things they would’ve never said to a white-coworker. To cut to the chase: as a group blacks are, on average, far more racist than whites. As my wife said, “After the passage of the civil-rights legislation of the 60s we (whites) were told that it was a new era and that we were all equal. But that’s not the message that black parents and so-called black “leaders” were telling themselves and their children. Their narrative was that they had been grievously wronged,” which I agree that they had been, “and that they were now ‘owed.’”Seriously, I believe that whites took MLK's advice to "judge by the content of character" more to heart than blacks did.Maybe they were owed something but “hand-outs,” in all the different forms that they take, e.g. welfare (TANF), affirmative-action, subprime-loans, etc., are addicting and in the end counter-productive. They take away individual initiative.
