Oh, I think I should have cleared this up before I started taking questions- since medical student life in different countries vary vastly!My medical school(s) are in Indonesia. I technically have two medical schools, since I transferred schools midway in my training. I finished my Bachelor’s degree and a quarter of my clinical training in Airlangga University, in Surabaya.I now have 1.5 years of clinical training left in Hasanddin University in Makassar, my hometown. I transferred due to family / mental health reasons.And a frequently asked question- I didn’t technically study medicine in Japan. I studied molecular biology, and my subject is somewhat remotely related to medicine, but it’s not technically medicine.

I don't know if you would call this a scandal or a tragedy. Or both.While this didn't necessarily happen at my school. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and British Columbia Coroners Service launched investigations into the suicide.So how is my school involved in this?While most of the bullying happened mostly online. Therefore being from people outside of the area, and even the country in general. Some happened in the schools she went to as well. The incident made her an outcast basically. As a result she had been transferring schools a few times throughout the incident.My school being the last stop.If she had not killed herself, she would have transfered, and hopefully graduated from my highschool.This incident caused a massive reaction in Canada. There was basically a massive crackdown on bullying all together. My school being involved in the incident took it really seriously. Just mentioning her name can silence a room sometimes.That is the biggest “scandal” at my highschool. I'm glad my school and the whole country decided to become a better place in response.

I wouldn’t do anything.Out of high school, I got into every private elite college, and UCLA and UC Berkeley. That’s Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, Stanford, etc.I had a really rough time in my life right after high school. I chose to not go and stayed home to work and help my family with money (we had none).I went to community college.I got into UC Berkeley and UCLA and MIT—two years later, as a transfer.My little sister got into UC Berkeley out of high school the month before as a 4 year.My younger cousin got into UC Berkeley as a transfer, just like me.I was rejected from the private schools this time. I think I was waitlisted at a few of them, but I didn’t care.Knowing a little family of mine was going to Berkeley made the decision simple and sweet.Berkeley became my dream school.It’s what you make of it. People who call a certain school a dream school generally have no idea what they’re talking about. I knew the mathematics program at Berkeley was good, but I didn’t realize how good until I actually took classes and exposed myself to the school’s resources.You can read whatever you want and look at pictures any day, but immersing yourself in a college is different.The moment I knew that the three of us were going to the same college, Berkeley became the dream school I never knew it was going to be.If I had been rejected from that college and instead been accepted as a trio somewhere else, then that school would have been my dream school.Dream schools are exactly what you want them to be. It’s a matter of perspective.
