PDF Editor FAQ

If you have kids in college are they coming home for the summer or are they staying on campus?

Our two sons graduated college in 2013 and 2014. They went to college close to Philadelphia area and we live near the Boston area about 6 hours away by car. They came for two summers to live at home and work. Those were the summers after freshman and sophomore years. They had to move off-campus as seniors (colleges only provided three years of on-campus housing) and their rental agreement ran from June 1st to the following May 31st. Because they had a place to live near campus, we told them to Stay there for that summer and get jobs near campus. They did and that gave them the opportunity to “spread their wings” and prepare for take-off once they graduated the following year.Indeed, I did the same thing when I was a college junior. I went home to work the previous two summers and then as a junior I took second term off from MIT and worked a Co-Op paying job at an aircraft company from February through August.I highly recommend that students come home for the first two summers and then go elsewhere for the summer after junior year.

Do delays make airports lose money?

Delayed departures do not have any effect on airport profitability. Airlines sign a rental agreement to pay a fee to the operator of the airport for use of their terminal and gate space. The operator is usually a municipality or government agency where the airport is situated. The party which loses money are the airlines. All aircraft are scheduled to depart and arrive on time. When a flight is late departing that could effect the scheduled departure of the continuing flight leaving the destination that equates to lost time which is money! Aircraft do not sit idle and are scheduled to fly until the airplane is taken out of service for maintenance or necessary repairs . Time is money to the airlines! They want to minimize delays and maximize revenue. Any delay usually costs the airlines money but does not effect the airport’s profits. I hope you found this answer satisfactory.

Have there ever been blind pilots?

As I was following social media (FaceBook group of student pilots and instructors) I saw some guy making a posting about how he was going to fly with his friend who was blind. The guy had done some flying, had a good feel for the activity, and the plan was that blind guy would take the controls, fly until things got a little out of shape, and then the other guy would take over.I tried to talk them out of this plan.1.) It was a rented aircraft. I am sure that rental agreement did not permit anyone other than licensed pilot renter to take controls.2.) Because he had posted on line that this was the plan, if they crashed it would be hard to explain.I do not know how it turned out, it probably went fine. For a while, then sighted pilot took over, no problem. If you had the right adaptive computer software and equipment, I believe a blind person could likely fly. With help of sighted person, certainly. Maybe not all phases of flight, not all circumstances. Hard to say. I would not bet against it.
