PDF Editor FAQ

Is MASH true to the military experience during the Korean war?

MASH, the film, came out shortly after the end of the Vietnam war. The television show soon followed. The general feeling that MASH gives to me is more from the Vietnam war, not the Korean. MASH is irreverent, ironic, anti war, and indifferent to the communist threat of the cold war. Characters that are pro-war and anti-communist are the butt of jokes and often ridiculous. The American public was still alarmed by and very serious about the communist threat during the Korean war. After Vietnam, many Americans had become somewhat cynical about war and anti-communism taken to the point of war.The military experience in the 4077 Mash is also often a bit extreme. Soldiers wearing dresses or Hawaiian shirts with uniform pants and boots would have been quickly disciplined. Alcohol near the front lines and blatant flirting between doctors (officers) and nurses (mostly enlisted) would have led to disciplinary action, ect. It's a comedy show. On the other hand, the suffering and compassion for the lonely staff and the wounded soldiers, does strike a note of realism to me.

What was the weirdest phone call from a random number you have ever received?

Hi Tammy P…this one is “E’-zee!”I received an automated voicemail telling me to call back As Soon As Possible (or Yesterday) before legal action is taken against me!The problem with this emergency warning is that it came from an “Unknown Number!” If it’s the IRS, a bill collector or collection agency; they’re Not going to attempt to scare you. Also, they will immediately establish their identity. However, there was No-oooo identity established & it’s coming from an Unknown number. And so just to double check myself, I did a reverse lookup on Whitepages.com. If this is legitimate the phone number should be connected with a collection agency or legal service. Instead of any reputable business, the number came up as a high potential scam number. Finally, as a Public Service Announcement:(443) 242–4077is a number associated with Scams & Frauds!!!

Do you believe the Democrats will run AOC for President when she is old enough and/or should they?

AOC is, of course, free to run in the Democrat primaries once she meets the age qualification - as others have noted, the Democrats will “run” whoever wins the primaries (using rather Byzantine rules to define “win” in some cases). However, AOC is today’s phenomena and, so far, has shown little substance, knowledge, logic, or insight. She already appears past her sell by date politically - others are now getting the press. Although, if she eventually runs, the Republicans would love to see her win the primary — I expect she might get a lot of donations from conservatives if she appears to have even a remote chance in the primary. This is because the opposition ads in the general election just write themselves using her own words, videos, and publications. For example see the GND resolution she authored (and esp. the associated FAQ and her implausible denial of it).…Or, “I’m the Boss” (minor, but as a video bite, it makes her look like a fool to anyone but a diehard supporter).…Or, her claim that just cutting waste in Defense could pay for much of single payer health care for a decade. First she was is ignorant to remotely understand even the news reports about the audit she was referring to - the $22T she was referring was mostly just internal transfers that weren’t properly documented. Such transfers would be like when Radar O'Reilly ended up, inexplicably, with a shipment of something MASH 4077 didn’t need, he would trade it (without proper documentation) with another unit for something 4077 badly needed. Second, it demonstrated her complete lack of understanding the scale of government — we haven’t even spent $22T on defense between the beginning of WWII and now.…Or, “unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs”...And, of course (attempting to defuse her gaffes), her statement: “I think that there’s a lot of people more concerned about being precisely factually and semantically correct than about being morally right”. Well, yes! And to suggest that being “factually correct” is unimportant to being a representative of the people is absurd — and, in fact, implementing policy based on factual falsehoods is not moral — it’s quite the opposite. Is she trying to compete with Trump and play the “morality card” at the same time? That seems crazy weird. As well, if the Democratic voters foolishly pick someone too progressive (which AOC certainly is) for 2020 and that results in Trump being reelected, even moderate progressives will have no chance of gaining the Democratic nomination for President in 2024 or 2028. Although, since she represents a very liberal district, she might well keep her seat in the House for some time so I expect her to be like so many extreme Representatives on both sides and sit comfortably in the House for several terms being increasingly ignored.
