PDF Editor FAQ

Why does India use 220 volts when the USA uses 110 volts?

Technically speaking, both India and US distribute 240 volts to households. However, the 240 volt residential service in US is in the form of two 120 volt conductors and a neutral conductor. When a load is applied from either 120 volt conductor to the neutral, it is using 120 volts. However, when a load is applied from one 120 volt conductor to the other, without using the neutral, the voltage being used is the sum of both 120 volt conductors (240 volts). So, the essential difference lies in the receptacles of the two systems. One common reason is that low voltages tend to be safer. Higher voltage is somewhat more dangerous if there is a short circuit or if they are accidentally touched. Some experienced electricians are relatively casual about touching 110 V circuits, but 230 V is highly respected.Source: Why does UK/USA use 110/120V and others use 220/240V

Why might you read 120v between the hots and neutral in a 240v circuit?

Though much the same question has been asked and answered in various forms and contexts, my previous answer here addresses it fairly straightforwardly. Simply put, the 120/240V residential service entrance configuration uses a transformer with a center-tapped 240V secondary, which results in two equal and opposite 120V line-neutral voltages in addition to the 240V line-line voltage, as shown in the referenced diagram.

In what ways is the USA better than European countries?

Since I've lived and worked in 30 other countries outside my native U.S., I can tell you that there are a lot of pros and cons about living in America. I don't think I'll do a list here, because I am indeed biased to a certain degree. I believe one's views are skewed when they are brought up in a certain country. For example, I have friends in Italy who swear by their country in every way, shape or form. They came to me one day asking for help in starting up a company. If you've ever investigated starting a company in Italy, I think it would be easier to swim across the Pacific Ocean. To answer the question appropriately, one would have to ask, say, 30 different people from 30 different countries who have lived and worked in many countries. Otherwise, you're asking tourists and short-time visitors to describe places they know little about.Another "skew factor" is age. For example, at my age, living in a Scandinavian country would be great vis a vis health care. Because we Americans take it in the shorts with health care costs - especially in the retirement years. But then again, you've got the weather in Scandinavia. Perhaps people would be happy to trade socialistic residential services for an 8 month winter, but I wouldn't. That's a personal choice. If you are discussing the concept of taxation, many countries beat the crap out of the U.S. But, in my experience, those countries don't give very good overall living and protective services as the U.S. does.If I were 30 or 35, schooling for my kids would be something I'd do over again. I'd probably relocate to Finland just for this alone. Again, the weather.Having spent the better part of 7 years outside the U.S., there have been times where I told myself, "I just gotta move here! Everything is great!" That is, until I sit down, employ my right brain, and make a list of pros and cons unemotionally. Then a different picture arises. When your personal history is firmly embedded in one country, as I'm sure 99.99% of all Quorians are, it's difficult to be objective. Your driver's license, passport, family, working capability, language and a whole slew of other stuff makes living in one country or another a better experience. When I did make one of my lists, I found that the "best" country for me - right now - is Switzerland or Malta. More positives than negatives than any other country, including the U.S. However, to make this a reality, I would have to be extremely inconvenienced for a year or two while I made the conversion. And, to the casual answerer to your question, they probably won't take into account.Bottom line: what you're asking is purely subjective. If I hated the U.S. for having something worse than other countries or not having something other countries have, I could find about the same number of things percentagewise with any other country. One man's requirement is another man's request.

Feedbacks from Our Clients

I ordered the updated version of CocoDoc Filmora. After downloading the program, it would not open, I spent hours trying to get it to work. Then I contacted customer support (if you can call it that) and got a reply 48 hours later from Yoyo (no lie). Yoyo sent me a patch that I downloaded which solved the problem. Why didn't the patch come with the original download??? OK, now that I have Filmora open it keeps freezing on me. I have a newer computer with an i7 processor and 10gb of ram. I contacted customer support again, waited 48 hrs and Yoyo writes back wanting me to do some 12 step analysis and then send him a report. His steps were cryptic and hard to follow. It's been 5 days and I haven't heard back. Basically they have my $69 and I am yet to be able to get this to work right or communicate with anyone other than Yoyo. Please, do yourself a favor and stay far away from this company.
