I just heard the news and thought of the same questions. Then, I went through an article published by The Hindu (app). Attaching the link and the highlights of the article to the answer. According to me, it's a significant step taken by our government. Before that I'm presenting my personal opinion.As the government has announced the step all of sudden, so everyone has to rush to the banks to deposit their money so as to receive new notes.
