It is permissible under law. There is no age limit for enrolment as an advocate.Previously, some attempts were made by the Bar Council of India to impose certain age restrictions on enrolment as an advocate, but such restrictions were struck down by courts as being impermissible under the Constitution.In fact, a retired police officer may have immense knowledge and experience of dealing with law, in particular the criminal law. So, he may be in an advantageous position to practice law and help his clients with his knowledge and experience of having dealt with thousands or lakhs of cases.Not only retired police officers, persons retiring from many other services (or other professions) also join law practice after their retirement. They bring their own rich experience in their respective fields to their law practice. For example, a retired banker would be expert in bank related cases.Just to give an example, one of the most well-known and one of the highest-paid lawyers in India, Harish Salve, was previously a qualified chartered accountant and he practiced chartered accountancy in taxation, before starting his law practice. He is an expert in taxation laws; of course, he is an expert in other branches of law also.

I think Senator Lee hasn’t thought this thing through.The Constitution grants the power to declare war exclusively to Congress. The Executive Branch has arrogated that power, with more than a little help from Congress and the War Powers Act, in a few special exigent cases.The President, and his attack dog Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, are claiming that those exigent circumstances were in effect for the attack on Qasem Soleimani. Cynics might be forgiven for an initial impression that the attack at this time was intended more as a distraction from the impeachment and the news that Trump’s Deutsche Bank loans were underwritten by a Russian bank (VTB) owned by the Russian government.He gave a briefing that was intended to give cover to his Republican friends in Congress for pretending to believe that the attack was a legitimate exercise of Presidential authority. (If it wasn’t, then it was an exercise in subverting the Constitution.)But Senator Lee didn’t play along. He and Senator Paul were so stunned by the lack of proof given in the secure briefing that they said aloud that it was insultingly shallow. Of course, he didn’t go so far as to draw the conclusion that the justification given was a pretext, but he said enough to allow the rest of us to draw that conclusion.Of course, if he really thinks that the President might be willing to subvert the Constitution in this regard, then he should really vote with Democrats to overrule Senate Majority Leader McConnell to allow documents and witnesses in the impeachment trial, to shed a little light on the question of whether or not he was subverting the Constitution in that regard as well.I don’t expect to see that happen. Senator Lee, like the rest of the Republicans in the Senate, are desperately trying not to be confronted with evidence that might prove what they are pretending not to believe.Q: What did you make of Mike Lee blasting the briefing given by Donald Trump on the Iran situation?
