He planned on travelling to J&K to take this to the root, but was captured once he crossed the border in May, put in a bungalow doubling as a prison, and died there in June. His death has been the subject of speculation for long. Agitation all over the country and demands into an independent enquiry on his death were ignored by the government, citing conspiracy theories that he was killed through an implicit understanding between Nehru and Abdullah. He already had health issues and was likely not given the due medical care.However, Nehru declined any such malicious intent and provided what reads like a defensive statement desperately trying to compensate for something, guilt maybe.In his letter dated 29 Jun, 1953 to Shaikh Abdullah[2], he mentioned that the only lapse by the J&K government was in informing the public about poor health of Dr. Mukherjee in a timely manner, emphasizing that he should publish a statement that Dr. Mukherjee was being kept in great conditions.He reiterated the same in further correspondence with BC Roy.The circumstances surrounding the demise of Syama Prasad Mukherjee are muddy, there is not much evidence except for what transpired between Nehru and key political figures. But that is just one version. She was elated.Within a few months, the two were soon exchanging several messages a day and contemplating starting a life together after he left the Army. Sharon was mesmerized by her boyfriend’s daring stories of combat and dedication to his troops, but she also felt bad for him; he’d suffered a terrible string of luck, including losing some of his closest companions in skirmishes. “There was one time when one of his best friends was injured by a grenade,” she said. “He described in detail how sad it was, sitting next to him as he died in a hospital bed.
