PDF Editor FAQ

I was rejected by Google despite significant job-related experience, excellent interview feedback, and stellar references. Where do I go from here? Could the Googler who referred me advocate on my behalf? When should I apply for another position?

It was almost certainly your interviews.Going to the hiring doesn't mean much. Only about 10% of candidates presented to hiring committee get an offer.(Note: this was roughly the statistic for my hiring committee, where almost all candidates were presented to the hiring committee. It varies by hiring committee. In any case, most candidates who reach the hiring committee do not get hired.)

I have been offered a position as an SWE at Google. Is it now possible to know how I scored in my interviews?

Definite no. As Dmitriy Genzel answered, interview feedback and scoring is intentionally confidential and is not shared with candidates (nor with the employees who referred them).Interview feedback/scores are shared only with 1) all of the candidate's interviewers, 2) the members of the Hiring Committee who reviews the candidates, 3) the Executives who approve offers, 4) hiring managers involved in team/project matching process, and 5) Recruiters and other members of the Staffing org.

Once you receive positive interview feedback from Google, what happens next? How difficult is it then to be approved by Google's offer committee?

Depends. But mostly it depends on what you mean by "positive interview feedback." If you mean, "my recruiter just told me the only thing left is approval by Google's offer committee" then it's highly likely that you'll have an offer in hand in a reasonable timeframe (it was 3 weeks for me but they swear it's faster now since so many people can't really wait that long...)If you mean "some of my interviewers wished me luck and seemed happy" then the odds are a lot less. We want you to come back in a year if the process doesn't go your way so we try to be as nice as possible.Things that could go wrong at the offer committee level mostly fall in the "totally lied on my resume" or "was convicted for torturing cats in the basement" type categories.
