Clergy Parking Permit: Fill & Download for Free

Jason Kessler applied for an obtained a permit for his “Unite The Right” rally to be held in Emancipation Park (formerly Lee Park), the location of the statue of Robert E. Lee that Charlottesville City Council voted to take down and dispose of in some as yet undetermined fashion. The city tried to move that rally to a different park, and Kessler had the ACLU take them to court and the judge said the city waited too long to move the event, it would go as planned in Emancipation Park on Friday, the day before the scheduled rally.That Friday night some combination of the groups attending “Unite The Right” but most certainly including Richard Spencer’s security group, Vanguard America,[1][1][1][1] illegally marched on the ground of the University of Virginia. Their intent was to march on The Lawn, cross the road, and disrupt a gathering at church on UVa’s “Corner” where Cornel West and two other clergy members were speaking against white supremacists. Enroute they surrounded and assaulted ~20 UVa students who were peacefully protesting with signs around the statue of Jefferson just north of the Rotunda (the crowning building of UVa’s Lawn; The Lawn embodies the original building of UVa that Jefferson himself designed and built). They assaulted these students without provocation; these students were unarmed. The marchers carried tiki torches and some had other weapons.On Saturday, two different counter-protester groups obtained permits to protest at Freedom Park (formerly Jackson Park) and at the McGuffey Art Center. The clergy members, now some 200 strong, held a vigil in the road next to Emancipation Park. They were unarmed and most were wearing their vestments. They were assaulted (!!) by the white supremacists in the park! The police were gathered on the opposite side of the park and were not preventing any interactions. They had originally set up metal barriers to contain the protest, but the Alt Right protesters removed those barriers immediately upon entering the park.Later on, by 10 am, counter-protesters had approached the park from Market St., coming from the rallies at both permitted locations, to verbally confront the Alt Right protesters. The police maintained their distant position. Mind you these Alt Right protesters had helmets, shields, batons, clubs, and bats. Their security was wearing para-military body armor, helmets, and carried assault rifles. They had come to fight, there was no doubt about it. Very little verbal provocation was required from counter-protesters to initiate physical violence. In the space of about an hour, I personally witnessed 100’s of incidents of assault, including numerous deployments of teargas grenades, throwing of water bottles, clubbings, beatings, and throwing of bottles filled with human urine (nice touch, Alt Right, throwing piss-bombs).I will admit that a number of antifa and BLM protesters definitely also came to fight, but their number was much smaller than the Alt Right protesters. There was a large majority of counter-protesters who were like me: Charlottesville residents who came to denounce the Nazis and Confederate sympathizers, to bear witness to their violence, and to show that this was NOT what Charlottesville stands for.The only un-permitted protest of the weekend was the tiki torch march on the grounds of UVa. That would depend upon the legal arrangement between the church and the gym. Now remember that there are MANY clergy and church workers who are legally allowed to carry concealed firearms, even in CA. Someone has to count, then take the cash from the church services to deposit to the bank, right? So assuming the church is the actual landlord to the gym, who signed the lease for the gym. Get that person’s permission and you should be good to go. If there is no lease from the church and it’s simply operated within the church’s functions, get permission from whomever manages the church property. Document in writing any threats you and your personnel have received and make it clear that those are on the record. Should anything happen, there are legal liabilities that can be assigned in a lawsuit.Better yet, since you’re the manager of the gym, get your permit to carry a concealed firearm. You don’t need it when inside the place of business you manage (or with the owner’s permission) but what about when you’re in the parking lot? Getting the permit involves passing a rigorous background check, clean criminal record, and basic training. The church should appreciate that and may even decide that other volunteers, such as those that handle the cash, should also get their CCW permits.

These were outsiders who came into a small town and began by walking the campus of UVA with torches chanting ‘Jews will not replace us’ as well as ‘Blood and Soil’ (a traditional Nazi chant). It was intimidating. There were also skirmishes with locals and jeering at students.When these same people came to the park, locals were not about to allow them to do the same thing again without resistance. If the Nazis marched through your town with torches intimidating your neighbors or colleagues, would you stand up or hide?The two sides met at the entrance to the park. The police were hoping to get the Nazis into the park before engaging with counter protesters but didn’t do much when both sides lunged towards each other. The Nazis were far better prepared than the counter protesters - riot shields, helmets, mace, soda cans filled with urine and cement, as well as their militia that was fully armed with automatic weapons and sidearms.Cville was not going to allow these hate mongers to occupy their town for an entire weekend without having a say. Local businesses lost an entire weekend of revenue and this will have long-term damage on the town’s tourism.Some of the spark for the initial skirmish was as the Nazis moved into the park there was a line of clergy that were at the top of the stairs and the Nazis plowed through them. The counter protesters went the the clergy’s aide and in doing so had to tangle with the Nazis.Also, I’d like to say that counter to the claims of 45, you don’t need a permit to gather. It’s a First Amendment right. And when outside forces of hate descend upon your city, ask yourself what would you do to defend your city, your neighbors and your country.
