Below the level of assistant manager, most McDonald's applicants are unlikely to use a resume to apply for a position. As background before I answer, let me compare two business with very different personnel strategies: Costco and Walmart.Walmart is much like McDonald's. They pay low wages. They hire many marginal employees, i.e. ones with no experience, or weak educational backgrounds, or other issues that make them less attractive to employers. They design their procedures to be resilient to high turnover and absenteeism. Employees can make quite a few mistakes before getting fired.In contrast, Costco pays very well. They carefully vet their employees, hiring only the best applicants. Their stores' procedures assume that employees will show up for their shifts, be awake and sober, and actually do their job. If that doesn't happen, Costco will fire the underperformers, and have no trouble replacing them because Costco pays well.For McDonald's to pay $15 would necessitate that they, like Costco, expect much more of employees. That's the only way that they could offer that much money without substantially raising prices. McDonald's would probably also have fewer employees, having them use more automated equipment to be more productive. As a result, they would become less tolerant of absenteeism, laziness, etc.I personally doubt that the employees will succeed in their campaign to get $15/hour. But if they do succeed, many of them will soon cease to be McDonald's employees. Just as many Walmart employees couldn't get jobs at Costco, many McDonald's employees would rapidly find themselves unable to meet the expectations placed on a $15/hour worker. Ironically, many of them would likely wind up working at Walmart instead, or similar businesses that tolerate marginal employees and pay poorly.
