PDF Editor FAQ

Are the girlfriend rentals on Facebook a viable business opportunity?

The challenge is with image recognition. I think that is the biggest risk for this business. How will you obtain fresh photos of sufficiently attractive girls that will not have matches in Google Image Search? How will you outsmart Facebook's anti-fraud algorithms? Criminals use the same techniques, which means Facebook has a process in place. For some fun, drag an image from any dating site into Google Image Search and see how many identities you will uncover. This will only get better with time.I use Google Image Search daily to verify identities of applicants to a large invite-only social network. We catch lots of fake profiles this way.

What’s the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you or creepiest thing you’ve ever seen?

When I moved to California to work for Apple, I was under the impression that I could live 30 minutes away and drive in to Cupertino. When I interviewed, everyone assured me that I could live as far as Santa Cruz, Pacifica, Morgan Hill or Gilroy, and that the commute would be “manageable.” They said they commuted daily and it would be fine…Well….I found out quickly (while I was in corporate housing in Sunnyvale) that living just a few miles away was a challenging commute. I found that finding housing was a nightmare. Scam after scam, not knowing who to trust or rent from, on top of sky high rental prices and competing for the same crappy rental with a pile of other applications…the entire process was exhausting. I searched daily for a solid month (which turned into two months quickly), in addition to the month I searched online and the two trips I made before moving to search for housing. I viewed rentals in every area within 20 miles. I had to expand to 30 miles.I made some poor decisions, under pressure to leave corporate housing (I had extended my stay to two months). I had a moving company coming with my things, and a very unhelpful husband, who put everything on me, on his way also. When the rental I had secured in San Jose backed out on me, I panicked and decided to take the only thing I could find…an overpriced rental in Morgan Hill. There was no supply and a very high demand. After I had put down the outrageous first, last, and deposit of $12,000, I suddenly had rentals calling me back at the last minute. I stuck with Morgan Hill, and should not have. Every ounce of intuition told me not to, but I was so ready to be done searching (I was working 12 hour plus days, had just had a miscarriage, and had serious marital issues going on), that I went against my better judgement.Morgan Hill is a great place, don’t get me wrong. The house was gorgeous…way overpriced for the area, due to the shortages The owner had recently increased the price to reflect the shortage….on top of the already inflated prices in Silicon Valley. But, we a small yard and a gorgeous view of mountains from my child’s window. I loved the area. But soon discovered that something was wrong with the house. The house was built in the 90’s. It had some updates, but it was your typical California two-story stucco, in a neighborhood where the kids could walk to school. There were many new two-story stuccos being added to the neighborhood continually. The very first night we were there, in sleeping bags, awaiting furniture the next morning, I suddenly felt a very bad presence. I had never had this experience, and was overcome with emotion and a “bad feeling.” I did not see anything, but I felt such a negative presence that I made my daughter and husband hold hands and pray. My husband wasn’t “praying hard enough” and was acting like I was nuts. I looked at him very sternly and seriously and said, “PRAY!!!” So we all said a prayer. I made crosses from cardboard and placed them around us. I drew a cross on the mirror.I realize this sounds crazy, and if you knew me, you would understand that it was completely out of character. I have my beliefs after studying religion, and I do not broadcast or force my belief on anyone. I am a private person. I have never experienced any type of supernatural sighting, and although I have several family members who had seen a male ghost in my grandmothers home, I had never seen it, and was not afraid of her home. I would tell my siblings and cousins (to make them feel better), “It can’t hurt you..tell it to leave and be mean!” Having this “bad feeling” was all new to me.We moved in, and strange things happened. Not like the typical things you hear people say about haunted places. One time I heard arguing on the street outside and two people were in a fight…in front of our house…on the end of a dead end street.Another time, a man came to the mailbox (out of no where) at the same time I did, saying it was his mail. I had to review my security camera footage to believe it happened.A woman came to the door asking how we knew the owner, and why we were there, and told us to leave.A man (a friend of a friend from work) came to buy a couch I wanted to sell, and started yelling and screaming at us out of no where (and didn’t remember it later).Needless to say, it was strange event after strange event. This was the home I lived in when a man attempted a home invasion. I also lived here when I was in a major car accident, and while my husband completely changed and turned into a different person. I would have bad feelings randomly, without knowing why.One day, I was reading about the Morgan Hill area and it’s history. I discovered that there was once a tavern off of Tennant Avenue (close to where we lived) that was home to a notorious murderer of the time (the 1850s-70s). It was called the 21-mile house, and the Vasquez tree was located outside the tavern. This tree came to be known as the Vasquez Tree because it’s where Tiburcio Vasquez and his “bandidos” tied their horses while they robbed the 21-Mile house. They frequently terrorized guests, travelers, and locals. They would “walk in, demand cash and valuables, and treat themselves to drinks at the bar.”California Historical Landmark #259: Vasquez Tree and Site of 21-Mile House in Morgan Hill Vasquez was notorious across the entire state of California around 1855-75. Morgan Hill was simply one small area he committed crimes. There are many other places named for him and his hideouts. He would drink with people who stopped in Morgan Hill, then rob and kill them. He was finally captured, found guilty of many crimes, and was sentenced to hang in San Jose. His grave is in Santa Clara County.I did not think that Vasquez was haunting the house I was living in, but who knows. I thought that due to the proximity of our house to the Notorious landmark, that it is possible that Vasquez could have possibly brutally murdered someone on our street, many years before the home was built.I researched how to remove bad spirits and entities. I found a great “prayer” or chant (that I have not been able to find since, and that I wish I had saved). The prayer was perfect for the situation. It asked the spirits to “forgive me for the sins of my ancestors” and several other things that I cannot recall, but that were applicable in removing spirits. I sprinkled salt around the house after that. My “bad feelings” seemed to diminish.I was still having very vivid nightmares, but only if I fell asleep in my daughter’s room. My daughter was 11, and had been sleeping on her own for years, but after moving into that house, she would beg me to sleep with her. She wasn’t scared, she didn’t see or feel anything negative. She just wanted me to sleep with her for “comfort.” I would usually wait until she fell asleep, and then I would leave. There were occasions that I would doze off, and I realized that I was having vivid nightmares, only in that room. I would feel as if a creature from “below” was pulling me down. The garage was below her bedroom, so it was pulling me through her bed, into the garage, into the ground. It was terrifying. I usually do not have those type of nightmares, or many dreams at all.We had many unpacked boxes in the garage, and decided to sell some things in a garage sale. While we were unpacking, we came across a box that was sent to my office that I had never opened. When I opened it, there was a note to another person. I believe the box was delivered to me incorrectly. There were paintings inside. Prints and original paintings of demonic creatures and disturbing images. One of the prints was particularly disturbing to me, but I wasn’t sure why. It was a ghoul-like, blue/grey creature that was screaming. My husband looked up the value of the prints and they were substantial...not worth thousands of dollars, closer to hundreds of dollars. He said he would give them to his sister, because she likes strange things like that, and I didn’t think about it again.A few nights later, I doze off in my daughter’s room. The creature I saw in the painting was pulling me into the garage, through the bed and through the floor. THAT WAS THE CREATURE I WAS HAVING NIGHTMARES ABOUT FOR MONTHS! I recognized it from the print! Needless to say, I had my husband remove the prints from the garage immediately. He wanted to either sell them or hold onto them until he saw his sister. I told him they need to be removed NOW, and that I would burn them. He ended up throwing them in the garbage outside after he saw how upset I was. No reason to take any chances, just in case, he told me. My husband is one of those people who wouldn’t believe there was a ghost in front of him if he saw it with his own eyes and heard it speak. He has no superstition and feels there is an explanation that we know for everything. I believed like him also, until I moved into that house.Things seemed to calm down, and we continued with our life. I am very active and enjoyed running, walking the dogs, being outdoors, so we were always walking around the neighborhood, and in the common areas, as well as in a couple of huge pasture areas bordering the neighborhood. These pasture areas seemed out of place...they were literally used for hay. I am sure future development will build on them, but they have been avoided for years. They do not appear to have an owner (I’m sure they do...just painting a picture), and have only a few scattered trees over probably 50-100 acres. It was not fenced, and there was a trail to the trees and a bench. The area was across from a school, so people walked around and used it as a common area. I did not feel comfortable (for some reason) walking too far into the pasture, but I would sometimes allow my dogs to explore the boundaries of the land, sniff, and walk to a tree or two. I enjoy collecting rocks, and I noticed that there were agates in the field. The were not really “collectible” quality, as they were at the surface, and many of them were damaged by heavy equipment that maintained the area and prevented overgrowth. You could only spot the agate (and jasper) after it rained, which was VERY rarely, and water would damage some of the types of stone there.Sometimes, I would bring back a few rocks in my pocket to study, to determine what rocks were. One night, it was only me and my dog, Lu. Lu and I were dog/human soulmates (If there is such a thing). We were together through it all, I had rescued her, and she protected me. We were so close that I could tell what she wanted by looking at her. She was incredibly smart, but that’s another story.Lulu and I were out by ourselves, which was rare. I had 3 other dogs at the time, and my daughter usually always tagged along. I took Lu by myself for a quick walk to decompress. We went to the pasture that night. It was dark, a brisk temperature, and a beautiful night. I reached down to grab a couple rocks, and noticed that a tractor had been through the area and had opened the ground. In doing so, the tractor broke up some rock and revealed a white and blue colored stone (it was a sage agate I think). I grabbed a few large handfuls of the dirt/debris. I wanted to study the minerals present and was very excited at my finding.I had an extra unused doggie poo bag with me and decided to collect enough debris to study in my “rock workshop” in the garage. While I was doing this, I felt a breeze move though me. Suddenly, Lu started urging me to turn around and go home, which was extremely odd. I was so confused. Lulu NEVER wanted to go home from a walk, and always stood and pulled to go in another direction if I started heading back too soon. We were only a block away from our house. She was urgently pulling me back to the house.I asked her what was wrong and tried to coax her into walking further, or into changing directions, but she was high-tailing it back to the house! She ran through the garage and into the house with her harness and leash still on, and didn’t stop or give me time to remove it. I didn’t have time to look through my rock fragments and dirt, and I set the doggie bag on a garage shelf and didn’t think about it, as I was concerned for my dog.Lulu was fine. I was confused, but didn’t think about it again. Not long after, the “bad feelings” started happening again in the house. I literally thought, “Oh no, not again!” I tried the prayer and the salt, but the uneasiness lingered.Days later, I am in my rock workshop area and I see the bag. I excitedly grab a pan and empty the dirt and debris. I sort through the fragments and to my horror, I find a bone- what appeared to be a cervical vertebrae. It was damaged, and I could not determine if it was from an animal. I taught human anatomy and physiology for many years. I am familiar with bone and muscle, due to my research area in biomechanics. Usually, it is easy to determine whether you have an animal bone. In this case, it was not.I was not sure what to do. I decided to bury the bone immediately. I said a prayer and told the spirit I did not intend on trespassing or disrespecting it. I marked a spot close to my yard (in another common area at the end of the dead end street) and buried the bone and debris. After doing this, the “bad feeling” disappeared again. After much protest from my husband, I decided to report finding the bone, where I found it, and where I re-buried it....just in case. I believe the police probably laughed at me. I would have thought I was nuts also! They never came to ask any follow up questions. We left that home and found another before the lease was up- not because of the “bad feeling” but because we found a closer place to commute from. We were so happy to leave that place. We lived there less than a year, but I can honestly say it felt like much longer. From then on, I have refused to ignore any “bad feelings!”

What are the possible applications of holographic imaging?

Yes, they do.They are mostly existing in university labs. There are some notible ones, including US MIT Media Labs, Singapore A*STAR, Japan Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, China Zhejiang Universitym and UK University of Cambridge (there are few others, I just name some). If you are interested, you can find their academia papers talking about their holographic display system(s).All those holographic displays in these labs have at least one drawback of following:1) Lack of at least one 3D cue, a.k.a it projects fake 3D.2) Too small size (<50mm) and/or too small viewing angle (<5 degs).3) Too expensive (cost of each prototype is more than USD 30k).4) Poor quality (I mean compared to the standard of existing 2D display).5) Very bulking system size (projected image volumn: system size volumn < 1:10) .There are few companies trying to build up commercialized holographic displays, such as US Zebra Imaging and Israeli Real View Imaging. Unfortunately, what they actually project are not true holographic images, but 3D images synthesized by multiple 2D images (a.k.a fake 3D). Well, but if done well (apparently they haven't done to this level), an user probably cannot tell the difference. Btw, cost of their system is high, and still in the prototype stage. In short, they do exist, but there is still a long long way to go before it goes to the market. Some even predict it will never happen, because some alternative approach(es) may become main stream (like VR/AR) and then there is no (or very little) need for them.Hope this answer your question.

CocoDoc FineReader is a leader in OCR software and that means that their OCR is the best. It can perform character recognition in any language. I am amazed by all the functions that this piece of software has but one thing is so cool and I use it almost every day to help me organize papers in my office. That is "Hot Folder" - every time you add some document into the desired folder it automatically converts it for you into any type of document you want. It can be editable PDF, Word or any other combination you would ever want. It can do it! Text is recognized very well and without any errors almost every time.
