What is a good plan for a 4-day vacation in Portland, Oregon?

It all depends on your budget, your interests, your tastes, and what time of year you are visiting Portland.I was a solo dad raising a child full-time from ages 2 through 6 on my own, so my recommendations are from that perspective.Top priority: contact the Kids Klubhouse (Child Care Portland, OR), and find out when they do a "parent's night out." They are a drop-in day care center, and sometimes schedule overnight day care so parents can have some private couple time for a night out for dinner and live music. Register with them before you arrive in Portland. You may need your child's immunization records.Do you like new and used bookstores? If so, Powell's (Used, New, and Out of Print Books) is an incredible journey for book lovers, with a multi-floor building taking up an entire city block stacked with books. If you like wine, the Willamette Valley has a large number of excellent wineries:Home " Willamette Valley Wineries Willamette Valley WineriesHistory of Oregon wineIf you like microbreweries: The best of beer in PortlandIf you like live jazz, Portland has one of the top live jazz venues in the nation:Jimmy Mak's - Jazz, Food, Jazz. It's about a 1.5 hr drive from Portland. My favorite spots are Cannon Beach, Pacific City, the beach at Oceanside, and the Cape Meares Lighthouse. My favorite scenic drive is the Three Capes Scenic Route (I lived on that part of the coast for 10 years). What are the most important details to consider when planning a cross country move?

1. If you are traveling in winter time in the US, think very carefully about your route and weather. If, for example, you are going from Philadelphia or New York to Oregon or Northern California, you might plan a route through Colorado or Wyoming. If a big storm moves in an you are stuck for 3,4,5 days in Iowa or Wyoming the experience may not be a good one.Depending on the weather forecast (which can be useful out to 5 - 8 days) spending a day to go South first and then going West ( Interstate 40, or even down to Interstate 10) followed by a half day of a day to go North when you are on the other coast might be a good idea, especially is there is anyone you can visit on the way.2. Make a composite check list in electronic form based on all the inputs here and your situation. Email the check list to a few friends who know you, and ask them to review the checklist.2(B) Use the checklist, at least have a paper copy with you3. From the check list, make a time line of what needs to be done when. Use this to generate your daily to-do list.Looks like a lot of good stuff on the physical side of moving.4. List of non-physical items -Computer -Get all your user names and passwords and security questionsYou may be set up to log in automatically with a certain computer -if that machine is lost or broken, can you get in that website ?Make back up and restore disksCollect all the original install disks for future upgrades.Delete any compromising files or videos.Medical Records and Prescriptions -Make sure to get prescriptions filled, especially for anything unusual or controlled. If you have an odd disease, you may need to make phone calls before you move- try finding a tropical medicine specialist in Oregon or Vermont. You may want a physical copy of your medical records.Kids immunization records.Eyeglass prescriptionsLegal -Any outstanding parking tickets, taxes owed, bench warrants, etc.How are the firearms laws different in your new state ? How about enroute ?Car titles, house titles, PROOF of Insurance, etc.Any landlord contact info for verification or to get your deposit back.State tax return information - be able to show which income and expense occurred where - states tend to be 'grabby'. You may have two state income taxes.Birth certificate (especially for kids for school)Do you need to renew your passport ?Any records of restraining orders, etc.Any records of provenance for antiques or endangered species items - If you have ivory objects that are not obviously old, do you have a record showing they were grandfathered in ? You may need to come back, and it is likely you can use their names as a reference for any new groups you join.Still want to move after all this ? ;-)

How do I go about enroll for homeschooling? It is my senior year of high school and I’ve been going to a catholic school. (I’m in New Jersey)

Since you use the term enroll, I think you may be asking for information about enrolling in an online school, public or private. If that’s the case, it isn’t legally the same in most states as independent homeschooling. Colloquially most people call anything done at home “homeschooling”, however, options are not all the same legally. You need to contact the schools you are interested in and ask them if space is available. Ordinarily you do not have to follow the same laws that a student who was independently homeschooling would. Any student who is enrolled in a public or charter school is considered publicly schooled. If the state/local al taxes provide funding for it, it is public, aka government. People may not want to associate themselves with that, and may not be honest, but they are both forms of public education. The exception would be if you’re enrolled in a private online school without a physical presence in the state, in some states, you’d need follow the same laws as an independently homeschooled student would. For instance, in Oregon, any student enrolled in a private online school must register as homeschooled.Even though it’s irrelevant to your question, as a former homeschooling parent in California, I want to correct the misconception that it is difficult to independently homeschool here. It is not cumbersome. We had to file an affidavit registering as a private school between October 1 and 15th. There is no testing required. We had To:keep to an attendance register.provide Instruction in English.have Instructors capable of teaching. (No problem here ;) )provide instruction inthe courses commonly taught in the public schools ie. Reading, math, science, writing, and social studies.Maintain immunizations records or a personal beliefs exemption.Maintain a list of courses of study. It’s nothing more than a transcript like you’d make for college applicationsMaintain a list of instructors with their addresses and qualifications. (That’s the parent - pretty simple)Seriously, it isn’t that different than other states. There is no approval process and no curriculum requirements. Here is a map by the HSLDA. They call it moderate. It’s more than some states, less than many. I don’t want parents to be discouraged from homeschooling here. The most recent attempts to increase regulations in response to the Turpins abuse case were defeated. We are a liberal, but a live and let live state for the most part. That bothers some because it denies their control.Homeschool Laws By StateOne last thing. But it’s important. I agree with the other answers that state that it isn’t a good idea.. As a senior, this is probably not a great idea. It would beg the question of why to any university or employer. You will need a good reason. Not following through looks bad. You have 9 months left with a very good chance schools will be at least partially online due to covid19. I won’t give unsolicited advice, you need to do what’s best for you, and I trust that your parents are capable of guiding you. However, you might want to learn from one of my nephews who did the same ended up not completing online high school until he was 20. It set him back.
