If you are accepted into a reputable Ph.D. program in the United States you will receive financial support including support for your living expenses. This amount of support varies tremendously from discipline to discipline and from school to school. In general laboratory sciences in high-profile programs on either the East or the West Coast supported by government grants pay more. However, living expenses in those locations are also much higher than in the Midwest or the South. With care, sharing living quarters, and with careful budgeting, most students can support themselves with relative ease.Do note that Masters programs almost never provide financial support.Many of our international graduate students have brought their families with them. It is a challenge to handle finances for a whole family, but it can be done. Spouses can be authorized to work, but this provision must be made with immigration and naturalization.International graduate students may ONLY legally work on campus or on campus sponsored activities (such as university sponsored summer research or teaching programs). All of these factors will be important, especially if you are trying to send remittances home.My suggestion is that in considering graduate programs you communicate with other graduate students in the programs you are considering about their finances and budgeting. You will be able to get a sense of how you might manage this financially.Of course, you must first be admitted to a graduate program for any of these things to be real, so choose your programs carefully and make sure that you have strong applications.As a coda to this discussion, let me mention that Northern European countries, such as Denmark will allow students to work while studying but there are very few fellowships for international students.

A2A. Harvard, MIT, Stanford, etc. provide financial support based on family income, for example, Financial Aid | Harvard College. If you can gain admission, you would be given a financial aid package showing how much the cost of attendances.Note: With your failing grades and your criminal record, you would in my opinion not be a viable applicant for Harvard, MIT, or Stanford.
