What are some of your struggle stories during IES examination preparation?

I am writing this answer neither to get any sympathy from anyone but my sole motive is to write this answer is to motivate aspirants who face various ups and downs during this preparation.NOTE I have been tested at each and every front by ALL MIGHTY before getting the reward of AIR 8 in ESE 2018 civil branch, so I suppose I am eligible to answer this question.FAMILY BACKGROUND My father runs a small private coaching of commerce in a small town of U. P and that is the sole source of earning which we have. No one in my family(apart from my sister who is a primary school teacher) neither is nor was in any government job, I am the first boy to have government job in history of my family that too IES with AIR 8.My mother is quite religious women and my father is one of the most honest person I have ever seen.I decided to clear iit jee with self study in class 11 because I was unable to join coaching due to financial issues and filled nearly 262 pens and 83 rough copies in these two years of 11 and 12. I had no idea in which direction one should work to clear jee so I used to solve PRADEEP books for physics and chemistry and RD SHARMA for maths hoping these will help in clearing jee, as no one in my family as well as relatives have attempted jee previously so I did what I found correct at that time but even though I scored highest marks in physics and mathematics (95 and 96)in my district in board exams of +2 but was unable to clear iit. As I had filled only iit jee form after +2 so I had to wait one year after getting disqualified from iit in my first attempt. In my 2nd attempt I filled the form of iit as well as AIEEE and I scored 192 in iit but that year general cutoff was 230 around, so I again missed my dream and it was all over for iit, somehow I collected myself and attempted AIEEE to fetch 25000 AIR in it and got nit AGARTALA. All this I did without any coaching and studying in lantern for 12 hours daily as in those days the electricity problem was biggest in U. P and our invertor generally remained discharge due to lack of charging. I solved ARIHANT books for these exams myself.I got electrical branch there but due to health issues and some family problems I had to leave NIT agartala, my father brought form of ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY for bsc in case I get failed in AIEEE in my third attempt but I have decided I shall get a better NIT this time, so I studied again and got NIT HAMIRPUR with AIR 15000 ,my marks were around 200 this time, also I secured 2000 rank in UPTU ,again I did all these with my self efforts only, no guidance, no coaching. As I had developed fighting spirit previously so I always targeted the stars irrespective of what conditions are, I had developed a great faith on hard work and was sure that a hard working person living in a hut may shackle the foundation of a number of palaces by the time I started by BTECH from NIT HAMIRPUR.In my college in first semester I decided that I shall not sit in any placement and will prepare for CSE, so that I shall clear it once I get out from here, but as I was pursuing my first semester one of my senior cleared ESE with AIR 13 ,It sparked my senses and I talked about ESE with my teachers, they advised me to prepare for GATE in college and afterward ESE. I did same and devoted most of my time studying in library and clearing my basics, I never participated in any event nor attended any fest and gatherings of my college in 4 years and gave my maximum time in library, in my final year we were only two people residing in college in summer vacations by seeking permission from college administration to prepare for GATE as at my home electricity issue was still there so I would have not able to study if I would have gone home. The other person is in BPCL now and is preparing for CSE simultaneously.Inspite of all my efforts which I had put in my BTECH and scoring constantly good rank in made easy test series in 2016,I had intense pain in my teeth just before gate exam due to which I was unable to sleep in night and my paper went bad and I secured AIR 1600 .Everyone doubted my efforts and hard work but I again didn't appear for campus placement even though I was in top 10 as I have decided that first interview that I will face in my life will be of upsc interview, so in order to keep my pledge I left all campus placements.I went to DELHI and started my preparation somehow my father managed to give coaching fees and for accommodation in DELHI, this was first time I was undergoing any coaching in my life, living in a small room in KATWARIYA SARAI and eating that meals which are taste less is a tough task but I never thought of these things and focused on my studies only, I took permission in my coaching to attend other classes as well so that my syllabus can get completed on time, I still remember that in AUG-OCT 2016 I have attended classes from 8 a. M to 10:30 pm and made notes of all important subjects in this way, by October all these things was over and I sat in room to revise my notes and study gs, I performed well in ESE 2017 prelim and scored 242 in civil. After clearing prelims I geared up for GATE again but this time also due to huge anxiety I was unable to sleep before paper and my gate was again ruined and got 1100 rank this time, as I was habituated of failures and have made my heart of stone so I again started my preparation for mains for ESE 2017.I topped in first conventional test of ACE ACADEMY and performed well in other tests, I was confident that I will perform well in ESE this time and GOD will pay for all my hardwork this time but I was again tested and had intense headache just before 3 days of final ESE MAINS EXAM OF 2017.I tried my best but headache remained in exam itself but as I had promised to myself that first interview I shall give in my life will be of upsc so in order to keep my words I cleared mains in that condition also with 121+166 marks in P1 and P2. I never gave any mock just to keep my pledge and on 23 AUGUST 2017 I gave my first interview of life and that was in upsc BHAWAN under the board of ARVIND SAXENA SIR. I knew I will be out from final list as my performance in mains was poor and this actually happened.I remember the day of 11th September 2017 when I was rejected from ESE, this was one more chapter in my failure book but at that point I saved my name as VIJAYA NANDAN PANDEY AIR UNDER 10 ESE 2018 and decided to achieve it at any cost.I had limited money and time to accomplish my dreams so I again jumped into ocean to fight with upsc and thought let upsc show its strength I shall show mine now(ANTIM CHARAN ME YUDH RAVAN RAM KARTE HAIN).I got enrolled in IESM test series and never missed it's single test, changed my name in test series in pre to remain away from lime light(wrote name as DHRUV KUMAR), scored rank in top 10 in 15 test out of 25 conducted, gave all gs test series of made esay, studied both iesm and made easy booklets of gs, revised notes multiple time of technical, analysed each and every test, and focused on KARM YOG only, no gossip with friends, no outings, saw demise of DHRUV KUMAR, faced numerous challenges in between but never gave up.for mains I gave two test series both of iesm as well as ace academy and scored decent rank in both even though it was quite tough to manage as one was from (5–8 ) evening on Saturday and other was on (10–1) afternoon on very next day, I would have been surely in top 10 if would have fallowed only single test but I knew from my previous experience that it is better to secure rank (20–30) in two test series simultaneously than securing (1–10) in single test series, solved previous year 16–18 times.AFTER DOING ALL THESE I HAVE BEEN REWARDED BY ALL MIGHTY AS AIR 8 AND I AGAIN KEPT THE PROMISE WHAT I DID TO ME, ALWAYS REMEMBER ONE THING THE MORE YOU GET SUFFERINGS GREATER THE SUCCESS YOU WILL ACHIEVE, LIFE IS NOT ALL ABOUT CLEARING UPSC BUT HOW WE FACE VARIOUS CHALLENGES THROWN TO US IN OUR LIFE, I HAVE NOT ONLY SECURED A GREAT RANK BUT HAVE ALSO DEVELOPED A NATURE OF PERSEVERANCE AND HARD WORK THROUGH ALL THESE FAILURES WHICH WILL SURELY HELP ME TO TACKLE ANY CONDITION NOW, IF I WOULD HAVE CLEARED THIS EXAM WITHOUT THIS MUCH SETBACKS I WOULD HAVE NOT LEARNT WHAT I HAVE LEARNT TODAY….SO ENJOY THE FAILURE AND KEEP MOVING, THE DESTINY IS WAITING FOR U....On a lighter note this time I was again doomed in gate with AIR 600 and marks 72 approx but now I don't need to write it anymore…I have now some other aims to achieve in my life, REMAIN MOTIVATED AND KEEP DOING HARD WORK TILL YOU REACH YOUR DESTINY...

India: What are things that make Indians sad?

This post shared by Sachin Tendulkar (cricketer) made me sad today. Please read the full description before hating me !Disclaimer :I am also a big fan of Sachin and have always prayed and even fasted sometimes for him !This post is not intended for Sachin only but for every MP who takes Indian Parliament for granted and gets huge salary and benefits which come directly from our Taxes !A new movie “ Sachin: A Billion Dreams (2017 movie) " based on the life of Indian cricket icon and living legend Sachin Tendulkar is going to release on 26 May, 2017 and as you can see in the picture above that Sachin is meeting our Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi Ji for promoting his picture. But he doesn't have time to attend Parliament session. Lets get to some facts. There are 12 nominated members in the Rajya Sabha and Sachin is one of them since 2012. Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and actress Rekha are the worst performers in attendance in the Rajya Sabha among the 12 nominated members.Attendance in the House :Tendulkar has attended only 23 of the 348 days since his nomination in 2012 and in terms of percentage that accounts to a meagre of only 6.67%.Participation in Debates :Here Sachin has scored a duck for the last five years which is opposite to his cricket career. He has not participated in Parliament in a single debate till nowExpenditure Incurred on Salary & AllowancesAs of now total expenditure incurred on Sachin is Rs 58.8 lakhs since 2012 and if in terms of expenditure per day of attendance then this amounts to Rs 2.56 lakh per day. Each MP is entitled to the following,Salary (Rs 50000 per month)Constituency Allowance (Rs 45000 per month)Office Expense Allowance (Rs 15000 per month)Travel & Daily Allowance (TA/DA) (Variable)Complete details of expenditure incurred on every Rajya Sabha Member is available here on this website. http://164.100.47.5/NewMembers/mp_income_display.aspxRead more at:http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/58124244.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppstSachin overtakes Rekha in Rajya Sabha AttendanceDear Sachin,We all really love you and there is no denying to this fact we are definitely going to watch your movie. But a humble request , please respect Indian Parliament and give your precious time there also and if you cannot do this then please vacate the seat for any other suitable candidate.Wishing you good luck for your upcoming movie !With Love,Your Billion FansEdit 1 :I must mention that inspite of his low attendance in Parliament he has done his duty well outside the parliament. He has adopted two villages one in Andhra and second in Maharashtra which are doing very well. The conditions of these villages have improved a lot and now they have got access to basic facilities. The fact that he adopted the villages while extremely commendable, does not in any way justify the gross ignorance of his responsibility. One does not balance the other.People are commenting about his charity work. My above post does not criticize Sachin for his cricket neither for his Charity work. He is a very very good cricketer and a good human, have done a lot of charity and I appreciate that. But his good doing can’t simply coat his negligence in another important work entrusted on him. Many people are also commenting that he is a nominated member and not the elected member. He has not asked for this but Govt of India has honored him this title. My point is that if he knew that he will not be able to attend the parliament and take part in its proceedings then he should have respectfully denied this duty and passed to someone else. By nominating members to Rajya Sabha, the State not only recognizes their merit and confers honour on them, but also enables them to enrich the debates by their expertise and knowledge that they have in different areas. Nominated members enjoy all powers, privileges and immunities available to an elected member of Parliament. They take part in the proceedings of the House as any other member.Edit 2 : Thanks all for your upvotes. Never expected such a huge response. You can follow me on Quora at Ankit Sharma.
