I have accounts at both UBL (United Bank Limited) and Standard Chartered Pakistan, I have found UBL's online banking easier to use. I can say with confidence that Standard Chartered is way a head of any other bank in Pakistan. Here is why:1. Branch Less Banking.We Pakistanis are the worst people if we have to deal with customers face to face. In each bank you will find a very frustrated, sad, and angry person sitting behind each counter. Asking them a question will make you feel that you have insulted them. They will simply refuse to answer questions or will try their best not to help you at all. They really do not want to work at all. Dealing with them is a very painful experience for any human being.With Standard Chartered, I don't need to go to branch at all. I can pay my bills online, transfer money to many banks in Pakistan, with draw money using ATM, pay my credit card bills. During last Three years I have probably only visited the branch Thrice just to get Bank Account Maintainance certificate for my visa applications.2. Powerful Online Banking With Real FeaturesWhat other banks in Pakistan are doing in the name of online banking is that you can view your statements. They will charge you extremely high fees for all transactions (if it is possible to do that). Most of the times their features will not work or will show errors.Standard Chartered's online banking is the best. It is very easy to use, hardly ever down, comes with apps for iOS and Androids. Has more Utility Companies than other banks, it is fast and very very reliable.3. Phone BankingMy Biggest complain with any phone service is that the CSR has absolutely no interest in helping. Usually the person on the phone just wants to repeat the lines they are instructed to repeat. They do not want to help you at all. They will ask you so many questions like CNIC, Account Number, Mothers name., ATM PIN, Security Pin, and what not. If you are calling them from mobile phone your balance will run out during the verification process alone.Standard Chartered phone banking is switft. They let you reach the phone banking person without wasting too much time pressing numbers. The CSR will quickly verify your identity by PIN number, CNIC, and Mother's name. After this you will actually be helped and answered.Can other Pakistani banks do that?No they can't. They have developed a corporate culture where their employees believe that their job is not to help customers but to perform functions. like the teller believes that his job is to deposit money and cash cheques. It is not their job to help you or provide you information.They also believe that not-helping you will have no effect on their job performance.Changing the whole culture in a large corporation is a very difficult task which requires a lot of effort. They are simply not interested in wasting their efforts on changing 'Culture'. They would rather spend that energy on launching some silly scheme that will generate millions for their bosses.

Visiting my bank.Standard Chartered Bank. Cream of the cream and “in my opinion” the finest bank in Pakistan. Their debit card can be used for online purchases and since no bank entertains cops with credit cards… I desperately needed an alternative solution and trust me it was a big pill to swallow, getting an account there at SCB.As their minimum required deposit amount to have an account opened was $1000. I managed to get it done and I couldn't be happier. Quality of services and support is top notch.Anyway, coming to the point now…Once I visited the bank in police uniform, the bank’s security guard waved at me.You’re late!Come again?I said you’re late dear, should have already been here.Surely he was mistaking me for the constable who was supposed to be here on duty but was not for some reason. I smiled and intended to enter the bank.But the security guard practically raised his arm to symbolically block my passage.Here… this is your chair. You’ll be staying here outside with me, are you on bank duty for the first time?Okay… this was it!I’m a customer, not a guard. Or is it too hard for you to fathom a police constable having an account here? :)His eyes widened and he backed off.I stayed inside for a few minutes and while leaving the bank, I stopped at the stairs to see if the absent constable has arrived but still nope.Listen, about that constable… he must be running late for a good reason. Make sure that you be nice to him, right? Take good care of him and offer him water or tea whatever you’ll be having for rest of the day.Of course we will, why not. :)Since then… whenever I’m at my bank’s entrance, memory of that day strikes and brings a smile on my face.

The two bank giants do have the different portfolios.The former ( Bank Alfalah) is rocking for there islamic banking stuffs, amazing for domestic banking and suitable if you only want an internet banking facility, a debit card ( remember that there debit cards are not functional across the globe) and just a straight forwarded account.on the other hand, the later ( standard chartered bank) has a rocksolid base, awesome internet banking, fantastic perk on using there international debit card that allow you to go ahead with online shopping too and a cheque book as http://well.in my opinion, standard chartered is anytime better.
