PDF Editor FAQ

Why do firearm owners keep insisting that the AR-15 is not an assault rifle when they clearly have "AR" in their name?

I was mailed 2 questions and asked to answer. Warning this is a long answer. It is more of a critique of the gun control ideas expressed within this question and the other and try to show case life on the other side of the isle. Nothing is directed toward any individual.Ar-15s were not originally made for the military. Ars stand for armelite rifle. It was a division of the Fairchild engine and aircraft corporation. Surprise its historical fact the whole point of founding Armalite was for the design production and sale to the civilian market. The business plan was to use then state of the art materials and manufacturing techniques to create commercial firearms that were sucessful with the general public. These then successful firearms would then be marketed to the military. This was a new trend in firearm business in the 1900s. Armelite was started in 1954.Prior to this firearms for the military would be made in small numbers and submitted for military trials. This was not cheap you needed a number of prototypes designed and built sometimes a few dozen to sometimes a few thousand. You got workers you got a factory you got machines maybe and tooling. This costs a lot of money and if the military says no then your out all this money so you try to sell it to the average Joe.Armalites business plan isn't the first in firearms history. Its not the last. It wasn't the first. Fast forward 5 years its 1959. They've only managed to get 1 rifle into military service. That's a ar-5 a 22 caliber 5 shot survival rifle. The us air force basically gave them to pilots and said here if you crash and survive use this to hunt. Failing to sell a bunch of them to make it worth the cost. They sold them I believe internationally through a dutch company and other nations militaries and civilians bought them.Later in 1959. They launch the upgraded version of the ar-5 the ar-7. Armalite starts letting colt work on the ar-10 and ar-15 designs under license. In 1961 Armalite goes out of business. The ar-5 and ar-7 are not a huge success. They literally went bankrupt. Its not until 1963. The ar-15 which has been under development about 5 years or more. In 1964 colt began selling the ar-15 as the colt sp1 to civilians. Finally gets past military trials. It becomes the colt m-16 in 1967 beating out the t-44.1967 the ar-15 patterned rifle for military use under the designation of the m16a1 becomes a military rifle after under performing with the American people and civilian market in the mid to late 50s. 1983 Armalite is back from the dead. Its sold to a Philippine tool company. 1987 Armalite no longer is produced or operated in the us. 1988 colt loses its government contract for m-16s.1989 the patents for the ar-15 expire. Anyone can now make ar-15s. Karl Lewis of Lewis machine and tool company form eagle arms. They begin once again selling ar-15s to civilians.1992 colt files for bankruptcy and goes to court.1994. The assault weapons ban goes into effect. It becomes illegal to sell ar-15s. It becomes illegal to sell firearms with more then 3? If I recall but maybe off in that number features of the ar-15. Now the point of the assault weapons ban to keep military weapons out of the hands of civilians and had the complete opposite effect. Ar-15 sold to civilians then later the military illegal. Remember the t-44 I mentioned earlier? It became the m-14. Yeah a military rifle then sold under to civilians. The m-14 civilian version. Mini-14 a redesigned slightly version of a military rifle for civilians. Yeah it was legal under the assault weapons ban. It will be legal under the new proposed unconstitutional assault weapons bans. The ban supposedly according to the leftists took guns from criminals....um fact check....the worst police shootout took place during the 10 years of the assault weapons ban.2004 the ban is lifted and the ar-15 has a cult status. It is America's rifle. You may say but why there's no need for a machine gun! There is no use for an ar-15. My uses of the ar-15 include legitimate reasons. I have 1 gun that I can swap parts out to make it many guns in one. If anything the gun control group should embrace our owning of the ar-15.The ar-15 put simply is like that mix and match candy spot at the movies. You can buy a bag of candy. If you want 3 different types of candy you don't need to buy 3 1 pound bags of candy to get what you want. This modular 1 gun but interchangeable parts to create a rifle for a different job is why the ar-15 has its place in modern American firearm history as America's rifle. This is just the facts to set straight some of the misguided brain washing (no offense ment, repeatedly saying incorrect things and presenting them as fact with little to no evidence as fact I cannot think of any other word but brainwashing) and repeating of things from the left as being fact but don't bother researching the fact your told is true.Your told that you can go into a gun show and buy a machine gun like you buy beer. Go into the liquor store and pay for your beer and they won't card you and you can walk out with it the same day. What if I told you I have a friend. He just came back from a 3 day gun show. He made 30,000 dollars after his 4,000 in travel expenses came out and didn't sell a single gun. His business is literally to do background checks.Go experience a gun show. Seriously go to a gun show. Try to buy a gun with no paperwork and no questions asked. Offer them extra money. For example how much you want for this ar-15, 2,000, ill give you 3,000 if you'll sell it to me with no questions or paperwork here's my money let me take it out to my car this very instant. They are gonna politely try to educate you that what your asking is illegal and if you insist they'll tell you to please leave. If you keep doing it going to person to person to person. They'll notify security. Security will throw you out but not until they have called police for suspicion of criminal wrong doing. They believe you are trying to do a criminal act known as straw purchasing. To buy a gun is not easy. Its harder then buying a car! When you go buy a car you fill out paperwork. They get instant results on your credit background. The background for a gun yeah no its not instant. You have to wait a week or sometimes 2 that's if the atf, fbi, or local police don't reject the application for something stupid like handwriting legibility. That friend of mine who does background checks at gun shows had 4 background checks denied for one guy. First time, state was misspelled, 2nd time the guy had a brain dart and was filling in his zip code started to do 8, but corrected himself and did 0 with a s in the middle, it was denied, 3rd time under identifying marks which would be used for like a bone through your nose, or $ tattooed to your forehead between your eyebrows he wrote good looking....it was denied. 4th time while talking to my friend he was doing circle doodles in the margins of the background check, blank empty margins. It was rejected. 5 weeks, 100 dollars in background checks he was finally approved for a 250 dollar shotgun.Another great example at blatant willful ignorance. The notion ar-15s are machine guns and you don't need to buy a machine gun its 2018. In 1934 a law was passed called the national firearms act of 1934. This law regulates machine guns. You have to undergo a 6 month long background check. If your background check via atf, fbi, and police investigation is approved you have to pay a 200 dollar tax stamp! Think of it as a fee for doing business and its a per approved 6 month long background check. You may say yeah so you can go buy a machine gun. Not so fast. There is another law. The firearm owners protection act of 1986. The Fopa prohibits the sale of machine guns manufactured after 1986 to civilians. Violation of the nfa and fopa are major felony charges!High capacity magazines are only for killing people! Pause....time out...no its not. I've gone hunting coyote and blown through 60 rounds of ammunition during a day of hunting. The day begins early morning with 45 rounds to make sure that at 700 yards the length of 7 football fields my scope on my rifle is still holding the settings that nothing got tweaked when it got jarred or anything. 15 left rounds after my daily scope adjustments prior to the hunt culled 9 Coyotes.Another prime example, that magazine capacity matters. Yet a huge proportion of ill informed individuals who've only seen guns on tv think that way and its wrong. Here's a cop demonstrating how wrong it is.Point is, the left scares me. I hope y'all keep your good health. I say this because the left is so misinformed if y'all had a heart attack you'd have your rotor rooter plumber giving you advice and doing your quadruple open heart bypass instead of a certified knowledgable cardiovascular surgeon. Do not believe what your told. Go out and experience and find out the truth for yourself.

Can you use motor oil instead of atf?

I am so glad someone asked this question; the quick answer is that there is no good reason at all why you should not use any 0W synthetic oil in your transmission instead of ATF; in fact, your syncros will work better. I have been doing to in performance cars up to 500BHP at the crank since 2004.Contrary to marketing of waste-of-money products, if you have sticky syncros, there are no additives that will help and often replacing with the factory specified ATF will do nothing. The anti-foaming properties of ATF are suited for Auto Transmissions and are pointless in a manual transmission. Here is the long answer which includes all the cars that I have ‘upgraded’ to Mobil-1 0w/20:This will shock some, and I will get trolled by nerds with no practical knowledge and ignoramuses alike, for passing on this knowledge (so please, save the opinions, if you want to argue, show me facts and reasons why what I have seen & done defies reality that I have lived) from a transmission specialist who owns TRade Transmissions outside Surfer Paradise (Sure the owners name was Greg), Australia when I was about to pay big money to replace the 1st and 2nd gear synchros in an MR2GT I took over from New Zealand, did a T04 conversion with 660CC injectors, dual fuel rail, borg warner fuel pump and MOtec EMS was this..... I had some work done by Simon’s idiot team at SpeedTech, Lower Hutt in New Zealand and the retard he stuck on the job to fit my new gearbox neglected to install the axle-seals, so the fluid pissed out and almost screwed my new gearbox I had shipped from Auckland for these overpriced buffoons to install. By the time I got to Wainuiomata hill it was so hot I could hardly change gear, so I stopped and noticed the rookie mistake I paid thousands for the privilege of being lumbered with..What I learned fro Greg from Trade Transmissions was: The single best fluid to use in ANY manual transmission old or new is not any manual fluid even by redline or whoever, but any fully synthetic 0W engine oil like Mobil 0w-30. He said I could go away and try that ……….or he is happy to take my $800.He also said, if every manual car was shipped with a Synthetic 0W engine oil, he would only ever have to work on autos This dude builds Holden and Ford V8 supercars as well as dragsters, he knows his shit Since then (2004) I have done this "upgrade" to now less than 20 cars including:2000 Toyota Corolla G6R - 6 speed manual2008 Toyota Corolla TTE Compressor (1.8L Supercharged VVTL-I) - 6 speed manual2008 Toyota Corolla TTE Sport (1.8L N/A/ VVTL-I) - 6 speed manual2002 Toyota RZ Supra - 6 speed manual2008 Honda S2000 - 6 speed manual1989 Corvette Z01 C5 - 6 speed manual1989 Nissan R32 GT-R Skyline - 5 Speed Manual1994 Subaru STi RS-RA Legacy - 5 Speed close ratio STi2003 Subaru STi RS-RA WRX Prodrive - 6 Speed close ratio STi2010 Infiniti G37S 3.7L V6 - 6 Speed Manual (most recent)1978 Toyota Corolla with a 1978 Toyota Century alloy Hemi V8 - Both a Celica 4 speed ..........and later a Supra Alloy 5 Speed from a 1990 Supra 3.0GT

Do NRA members actually go hunting animals with an AR-15? Isn’t the weapon meant to kill people and destroy internal human organs beyond repair?

Hello there OP,Well, I guess the answer is no to both questions. The Armalite Rifle Model 15 (AR-15) is the original, hence the name AR-15:[1][1][1][1]The ArmaLite AR-15 is a select-fire, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle manufactured in the United States between 1959 and 1964, and adopted by the United States Armed Forces as the M16 rifle. Designed by American gun manufacturer ArmaLite in 1956, it was based on its AR-10 rifle. The ArmaLite AR-15 was designed to be a lightweight assault rifle and to fire a new high-velocity, lightweight, small-caliber cartridge to allow infantrymen to carry more ammunition. Please note that the AR-15 is a select fire weapon and hunting on full automatic is:Very hard on the meat of the animal being hunted,Hard to aim (spray and pray is not very effective)Wastes ammunition. It is just not worth the amount of money spent, (select fire weapons cost $10,000 or more) or time it takes (6 months or more) to get a license from the ATF to own one. The interesting thing about the AR-15 pattern rifles is that they look essentially the same as an AR-15, M-16, etc., but they are semiautomatic, one shot per trigger pull and that obeys the law (U.S. Code, Title 26):U.S. Code › Title 26 › Subtitle E › Chapter 53 › Subchapter B › Part I › § 5845[2][2][2][2](c)RifleThe term “rifle” means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, and intended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the trigger, and shall include any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire a fixed cartridge. Also, there are many semiautomatic rifles with pistol grips used in hunting. These are not AR-15 pattern rifles. They are modern sporting and or hunting rifles.and they are no more deadly than this more traditional hunting rifleYou also ask:“Isn’t the weapon meant to kill people and destroy internal human organs beyond repair?” I am sorry to disabuse you of the notion that notion because any, and all, firearms are fundamentally designed to kill animals (and people are animals). As for destroying organs beyond repair is just collateral damage. Are firearms meant to kill enemy soldiers? Yes, of course. Making them so that they purposefully mutilate in wounding to assure a kill is against the Geneva Conventions.[3][3][3][3] That is why military rounds are full metal jacket, instead of hollow point.Hunting rounds are not nearly so polite. They are designed to expand and take out organs and make a mess in the area. A chest shot is to take out the heart by being near it. A 300 yards a deer’s heart is a small target, and so a hunting round is designed quite differently than a military round. So What??Well, the rifle is a launching tool, it is the ammunition that is designed to do a hunting kill, or a military kill. Interestingly enough the FBI chooses not to use full metal jacket, but a hollow point… I guess that is another reason to be polite to the nice FBI people. One last point. The NRA is about 5% of the gun owners in the US. They have 4.5 to 5[4][4][4][4] million members and there are over 105[5][5][5][5] million gun owners. That is why I originally said no because I don’t know if NRA member uses a modern sporting rifle for hunting. I would bet no. I’ll bet that they use what they think is the best tool for the job.Like me, I use a Ruger Model 77 300 Winchester Mag for elk hunting.A Winchester Model 1894 30–30 for deer (there is a lot of brush and I find the compact rifle suites my needs). And these 5.56 for varmints.or this one (which is more versatile and reliable)...Just depends on what and how I want to do the varmint control. There are a lot of erroneous stories going about regarding the AR-15 pattern rifles and modern sporting rifles because of their uncanny resemblance to military hardware. These rifles are modern technology, and have superseded the last generation. They are made from plastic and aluminium rather than steel and wood. They are able to attach useful accessories that the older generation could not. They are a bit engineered looking (a nice way of saying ugly) for my taste, but then so is a jeep CJ compared to a passenger car. They are not designed to mangle the prey or people… that is so counter productive. Do you really think police want to use weapons that destroy internal human organs beyond repair? If you do, could you condone such a thing?Ciao.Footnotes[1] ArmaLite AR-15 - Wikipedia[1] ArmaLite AR-15 - Wikipedia[1] ArmaLite AR-15 - Wikipedia[1] ArmaLite AR-15 - Wikipedia[2] 26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions[2] 26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions[2] 26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions[2] 26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions[3] Geneva Conventions[3] Geneva Conventions[3] Geneva Conventions[3] Geneva Conventions[4] Among gun owners, NRA members have a unique set of views and experiences[4] Among gun owners, NRA members have a unique set of views and experiences[4] Among gun owners, NRA members have a unique set of views and experiences[4] Among gun owners, NRA members have a unique set of views and experiences[5] The US gun stock: results from the 2004 national firearms survey[5] The US gun stock: results from the 2004 national firearms survey[5] The US gun stock: results from the 2004 national firearms survey[5] The US gun stock: results from the 2004 national firearms survey
